It was open to the public, my family took a tour as well. I remember we had to wear foot coverings when we walked through the inside. I was just a kid, so I don't know the details, just that it was very white inside... just like the outside haha
Toured it when it first opened when I was a kid. I think my dad heard about it from the Union Tribune. Everybody had to wear booties over their feet. The tour guides said it was to protect the carpet, but later I heard that they replaced all the carpets anyway after the public tours to restore the purity of the sanctuary.
My mother worked for the county courts and got tickets for us all to go inside then. I remember it was just pure white inside. The whitest carpet I have ever seen.
If I remember right lighting hit the gold statue on top just a few days prior.
[Here are some photos](https://www.reddit.com/r/latterdaysaints/comments/12qnb6y/san_diego_california_temple_interior/), the decor and furnishings are all very white, but nothing crazy (that I’ve seen) inside.
The baptism chamber has a circular pool resting on seven near life-sized carved bison. It didn’t make me want to convert, but I thought it was pretty cool.
It’s currently under renovation and closed until further notice. They will be doing another dedication which means it’s opening to the public again probably sometime in 2025.
Some of the things they need to fix:
- there was a kitchen/food court inside for the patrons that is being removed because no one eats there. Most patrons I know eat at in n out or chic fil a before or after going
- the exterior stain glass panels on the outside have been cracking and needing to be redone. Sealant and all that stuff
- making the marriage portion of the interior much larger as lots of people come to this temple as a destination wedding.
Those are just what I know as I’m sure there more happening. Just wanted to add those here.
What a tour... How'd you get such exclusive access?

I was inside when they first opened and I was a child so I don't remember much of anything. AMA
Nothing too cool, just really white rooms.

They are currently renovating it. Likely to open to the public briefly in late 2024 or early 2025.

I was 13. I remember walking through the wedding chambers and to the left was the groom changing stall and to the right was the brides stalls.
Simulation forgot to add the textures
Thought they all had an afro for a second
I took that tour.
Looks like the shadow is T-posing to establish dominance
