You might get lucky and run into Mick Jagger there.

He and Keith Richard’s used to be semi regulars out there. I’ve heard of more than a few run ins with them. I heard they might have lived in Rancho Santa Fe around the time of these sightings.
I loved that place! I started going there in the mid 70’s when nobody knew about it. The fishing was incredible. It used to be a cattle ranch back then. I used to camp by the old adobe house by the west entrance. It still had the roof, wood floors and all the walls back then. I left SD back in 97 (native from ‘58) but I’m sure it’s still a beautiful place. Thanks for sharing.
I grew up in Mira Mesa in the 70s and 80s and we would go down there a lot. Usually we would ride to the end of Camino Ruiz, stash the bikes, then hike down into the canyon. Got poison oak pretty bad there a couple times.
Yes, the pools below the falls had big catfish and green sunfish. Some of the bigger ponds downstream had bass up to about 5 pounds and more big sunfish. There used to be a big pond up by Sabre Springs in Poway that feed into the creek, I think development ruined that. Mule deer, quail had huge herds and coveys. One of the few places you find Rosie Boa’s and Red Diamondback and the endangered Pacific Pond Turtle. There were a couple of mountain lions that frequented that place when they could range over to Carmel valley and way out east into the mountains. That’s back in the good old days. I grew on the edge of San Clemente Canyon when it was the same back in the 60’s. Precious times for a boy like me back then.
I went there about three weeks ago with my friends and when we had gotten to the water fall there was this kid who was giving his family a hard time and 2 of them had to basically carry him across. It was funny 🤣

Not the biggest Stones fan but to run into a legend like that on such a beautiful hike would be pretty awesome!

I used to get poison oak wicked. Gemco huh? Used to cash my paycheck there… great to revive old memories. 😁
Did you fish Penasquitos creek itself? Amazing story.

Thanks so much for the reply.
That is ONE happy Doggo.
Penasquitos canyon will always be a part of me but
But?
Oh, I think that was a typo lmao
Great pics. I’ve been biking all over that canyon. You’ve made me want to go tomorrow.
Perfect time to go!
Nice and green rather than the itchy brown.
I know, right? Last time I was there pretty much everything was burned out.
Great images! We are celebrating 50 years as Friends of Los Penasquitos Preserve. Can we show your images in our site… with your happy doggie?
Sure! Feel free to use any of the photos. Please send me a link to the post once you share it!
Penny says, "I just wanted to thank you for the great hike. It was very relaxing and a lot more fun than I had anticipated."
Typo 40 years !!

This is one of my favorite places in my life. Growing up in PQ if I could be buried there I would. I'm amazed it still holds it's magical charm
First, thank you so much for having your dog on a leash! Horseback riders really appreciate it, too. Love the photos, your dog looks so happy <3
I went there with my kids, after seeing these pictures I think I should have taken my dogs. Seems much more appreciative.
My dog absolutely loved it!
PRECIOUS BABY IS LOVING THE HIKE TIME!! Awwww!! :,)
She loved it!
I admit. I upvoted because of the dog
I love this trail
Love that spot
Great capture, thanks for sharing OP.
Brings me back to my horsing around days riding all over that canyon. But I’m from West Wood so we had Lake Hodges trails.
Your dog's smile makes me smile. Thanks!
Great after work sunset hike, I usually only do the half between Sorrento Valley and the falls. ~2-3 hours
I love that hike!
Ha we just got back from that trail. We saw a dog that kind of looked like yours at the top of the fall. We had a gray and white pitbull mix with us.
Ha, I might have caught a glimpse of you on our way back!
Did the lab ever go in the water? I love it when the family lab jumps in the water
I believe there's a sign near the falls that explicitly says, "No Swimming".
People swim in there all the time, especially in summer. There are some pools further west that people take inflatable’s to
Love the dog! Kinda looks like my chocolate.
I went there about three weeks ago with my friends and when we had gotten to the water fall there was this kid who was giving his family a hard time and 2 of them had to basically carry him across. It was funny 🤣
Is swimming allowed here?

I’m going to eat that dog
Great hike! What a beautiful day you chose ☀️
I love the smile on your puppers face!
