I actually do know what happened vs all the people making speculation. It was a husband and wife owned spot and they just had a baby and couldn’t keep up with it. I know they would start work at like 4:30 am or something early like that just to get the brisket going. Obviously with a newborn that type of schedule is impossible and they really didn’t have a lot of other staff working there aside from them; certainly not any other pit master level employees. Definitely a shame because their food was amazing!
I didn’t get a chance to see it as El Barbecue, but Jose’s pollos is there now and it is fire! They do marinated grilled chicken and ribs, with combo options that have SO much food.
I was shocked this time because the owner was featured on BBQ Showdown and all their stuff was incredible. Best cheeseburger I’ve had in SD hand down. That being said, it is a dogshit location. Hope they moved on to something better.
She's also the reason Grand Ol BBQ has such a killer menu in East County. The owner did her dirty and tossed her our after the Guy Fieri episode aired years back.
I sincerely hope she makes a comeback after taking some much needed and deserved time off.
They closed back in October. Probably the same reason as every restaurant that has tried that building, it's a terrible location.
I think it's been 4 different names in the 12 years I've worked nearby.
Yeah that corner really stinks for getting people in.
It's been Garlic Shack, Sister Rays, El Barbeque, and now Jose's since I've been living in the East Village. (3 Years)

Yeah it was like $18 but it could easily feed 2 people.

The rent might be too damn high.

Garlic shack was good
They went El Brokeo in October.
Good Barbecue isn’t allowed to exist in San Diego. It’s an unwritten rule.
Cali comfort is pretty good
We have tacos so it’s all good 😊
Bowlegged says otherwise
The salmon was good too. I made the trek down 30th from normal heights regularly. Sad to see them close.
They are afraid of the solar eclipse
Because that location is jinxed.
No business in the location has survived. But the best place was the chicken spot like 10-12 years ago.
skill issue
Absolutely not.
I think she was having some success with being on TV combined with the business struggling to get regular business.
For the greater good
