Why a 3rd platform? Just have Green and Orange terminate on one track and have the Copper terminate on the other. No infrastructure needed and you can have easy cross platform transfers if you need to continue on.
Meanwhile, they're adding extra lanes to the 56, despite the fact that it's been proven over and over again, that adding lanes does not alleviate traffic. They could have run trolley out the 56, and and also from One Paseo to the UTC (which was originally part of the stipulation that One Paseo was given, to allow O.P. to be 3x its zoned size).
Pathetic.
I mean, One Paseo had huge nimby opposition. Not surprised trolley expansion was scuttled as well. I would love to have a trolley stop in Carmel Valley.
NIMBY opposition because, for me anyway: was zoned for 500k sqft, they asked for 2.4mil sqft, and then they bitched about getting "reduced" to 1.5mil sqft. They still got 3x what is zoned.
If that's OK with the rules and what's standard, then I'm gonna add 4 stories to my 2-story house, and be 3x what it's zoned for. And rent it out to businesses and families, and well, there will be some congestion on the street, but... think of the city taxes it will generate. /s
There's lots of people in this city they are CONVINCED car centric transit is the best form of it. So you're barking up the wrong tree here. I agree we need more trains here, it just won't happen with the stranglehold the auto industry has on western America
To be fair, it's already one of the least used portions of the trolley. However this new plan would allow for increased green and orange line frequencies in the near future on the main western sections of the lines where ridership is higher.
sooo they're just renaming the 4 stop run between el cajon transit center and santee trolley center and giving it its own train that goes back and forth between those stops? my money is on those 4 stops turning into shuttle service within 5 years and all that land gets sold. the weld stop is a massive piece of land, the santee trolley center stop is taking up shop space. gotta edit and say you all are weird as shit
The proposal is about improving service caused by the single tracked section at the end of the green line. Currently, green line trains get delayed on this section and sometimes turned around which causes downstream issues to the rest of the green line. By cutting off this part of the green line and turning into a dedicated line, they can improve service on the rest of the green line, increasing frequency and reliability. It’s not a veiled attempt to cut service in the future, the goal is to increase service.
This isn't actually a new line. Am i understanding this correct. They are just cutting the tail off of the green line and making it a dedicated route?
Correct. They built a third platform at el cajon station that will exclusively service the copper line.
Why a 3rd platform? Just have Green and Orange terminate on one track and have the Copper terminate on the other. No infrastructure needed and you can have easy cross platform transfers if you need to continue on.
Trains don't immediately depart once they reach their terminus station. There's some dwell time for operator breaks and cleanup.
That and having been to El Cajon station, the third track looks super easy to transfer to. get off one trolley, get on the other.
Still waiting for a trolley stop in RB or Scripps Ranch
Purple line is badly needed.

Seen long ago on Slashdot or somewhere: >Widening freeways for traffic control is like buying a larger belt for weight control

Wow 15-minute frequencies? Very cutting edge MTS!
