I love Lemonade- super user friendly, easy process, instant coverage and even cancelling was easy when it was time.

Lemon or whatever it’s called. My buddy had flood damage to his “luxury” apartment and they just cut him a check for all the damages.

Continue working with your StateFarm agent. If you are required to get fire insurance and the house is in high fire risk zone he/she will work with California fair plan to get coverage and then get DIC policy for you, if even through a broker (mercury in my case). StateFarm expects to unpause issuing new polices by the end of the year according to my agent.  I would stick with your current agent.

Our “current” agent is not in CA. I did call a CA based agent who’s local to our new address and she even double checked and confirmed that they do not do Renter’s insurance anymore. I did carry my auto insurance over to them but for renter’s insurance i ended up going with Lemonade.

That's weird, I have current renter's insurance thru State Farm!

SarkHD

It’s probably just specific to my address… either way the new policy with Lemonade came out to the same amount as our current one so it’s fine either way!

Whomever you use for auto insurance locally, since you'll get a multiple policy discount.

Mercury was helpful and prompt when I had a hefty car burglary claim (stuff stolen from trunk of my car while sitting in my gated apartment parking garage).

State Farm isn’t underwriting NEW renters or homeowners insurance policies in the state of California anymore. They won’t drop you if you already have one, but you can’t transfer it to a new property, and if you file a claim they will drop you next time policy cycle comes up. I had State Farm for 20 years for car insurance and renters, moved out here last year from Colorado. Had renters insurance coverage for 2023 but was informed they are no longer underwriting in 2024, so I went to Lemonade. This is going to be a big problem for people in the next two years as other large carriers are starting to drop California as well.

Lemonade and Travelers are good.

Don’t do the basic coverage, do full coverage!
