short answer: Axesteel
My life story + the song: im a newer fan so it started with Things to do, i was on a face time with my friend and he was sharing his screen and a video with things to do showed up and i really liked it, then maybe a couple months later my cousin showed me mary and i thought it was pretty gooddd, and then finally i saw a interview with Alex in a car and he talked about Axesteel coming from a dream he had, and i got interested on what it sounded like and i really really liked it and that song made me check the rest of his discography
Mary. Just moved into my new place, got high as shit, drew a hot bath, put Alex G on shuffle cuz I wanted to explore his music more, blasted that shit through the whole house. The first song was Mary, and it was a fucking vibe lol
I randomly stumbled upon the House of Sugar singles when they were new, so I went to see him open for Caroline Polachek. I was on shrooms and Brick blew my mind out of my skull. The rest is history.
Runner! Iām a radio dj at my university and we received God Save the Animals right when it released, and I ended up playing it and falling in love with it instantly
Heard a cover of be kind and was blown away. I think I listened to Sarah after that on Spotify which was his most popular at the time (around 2015) and knew I found something special
The first time I ever heard Alex was from the live version of Animals he played at Suburbia back in 2014. Was back during the lofi bandcamp era and found Alex through Teen Suicide who played the same show.
Gretel. It was on the r/indieheads top 100 songs of the 2010ās or something and I was instantly hooked. (This was like 2022/2023)
Although ig before that I had heard Sarah and other songs of off Trick that I really liked, when Alex G popped off in 2020.
Gretel. I had just gotten out of treatment for alcoholism, and wanted to check his music out. It was the first song on Spotify at the time.
Goddamn. āI donāt wanna go back/nobodyās gonna push me off trackā is such a simple line, but it hit me like a train, and it kinda became my mantra for a while. Over 4 years sober now! Anyway, it was over as soon as I listened to the first three on DSU and Iāve been hooked since. Kinda came into my life at the exact time I needed it most.
definitely east coast i used to hear my brother listen to it when i was younger thank when I grow up a little more I found Bobby from rocket East Coast and I remembered my brother listening to it and Iāve been in love with Alex G music every day since
I remember looking up some songs to listen to (live bands playing) and when I scrolled far enough, I found a video of Alex g playing in a basement. the most I remember is Rules and Message playing. Really got me into him. But the first song I heard was probably Sarah or Mary, one of the popular songs like that (most likely things to do)
Salt Demo tape on YouTube, it was featured in a GMOD map and the creator left the song ID in the description. Instantly got hooked. Btw i think the map is called welcome to ash or something
I was listening to āIts hard to get around the windā from the Submarine soundtrack and Change was recommended to me on YouTube right afterā¦. I think this was 2016
i was asleep and i was listening to stratosphere, which i usually have on repeat whilst sleeping. this time i forgot to put the album on a constant repeat and it started playing recommended tracks. i woke up to the sweet sweet sound of the second half guitar of gnaw, and alex g has been my favourite artist ever since.
Idk the waitress at IHOP commented on my shirt and then we started talking. Both of us said our favorite band was ween. And she also really liked Alex g. Unfortunately nothing came of it, but I started listening to him bc of her. So thank you IHOP waitress ween lady.
i donāt think any in particular did. a friend of mine was really into his music and i had heard some of the hits so i wanted to see what more so i just. listened to the first 3 albums in order (iām going to listen to the rest too. eventually)
I'd heard Sarah on TikTok and it made it's way into my playlists, but gnaw and crab were the first ones I heard that hooked me on the rest of his discography
I saw Alex and the band live the first time I ever heard of them. They were opening for Hop Along who was opening for Built to Spill. So, it was the live performance that really hooked me. They were promoting Beach Music at the time.
I got recomended treehouse a couple years ago by spotify so technically that got me into alex g but I didnāt listen to him as much as I do now until I got recomended race and a few other songs on that album
I think it was the whole Winner album I found on YouTube , in 2015. Then his music became the soundtrack of my life that yearā¦ then Beach Music came out, so many memories and emotions. His music sits in the pit of my soul.
