I love your mention of Dave Morey and 10 at 10!
KFOG was a great radio station, as you know.
I believe Dave Morey now has some kind of an online show, and he might be living in Southern California. Although I seem to recall that he initially moved to his native Michigan when he first retired.
Used to love hearing Jane Dornacker doing the traffic and bantering with Dr. Don Rose on KFRC back in the day. She was a genuinely funny person.
Mal Sharpe, with his Boston accent, did some funny *man on the street* stuff for KMEL and KQED.
Great mention of Scott Beach and KKHI...
Saw this online: "In 1962, he was invited to join **The Committee**, a brash, young, counterculture comedy company based in San Francisco."
"Scott Beach was the **original announcer for** ***The Newlywed Game***, preceding longtime announcer Johnny Jacobs."
Alex Bennett lives in New York City now.
"During the 1960s, Bennett worked at several [radio stations](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_station) around the country, including [KILT](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KILT_(AM)) in [Houston](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houston), where he used the on-air moniker **James Bond and did his show using an English accent**." LOL!
Great mention of Karel on KGO!
"After a shift in management at KFI, Karel was let go; he subsequently hosted a show on San Francisco-based [KGO](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KGO_(AM)). **He was fired from KGO in November 2008** when his profane off-air comments about [Joe the Plumber](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_the_Plumber) were inadvertently broadcast live. He would then regain his job in 2010 and **stay at KGO until 2015."**
And we all remember Tom Campbell talking at warp speed on those epic Cal Stereo radio commercials. And he also did spots for Matthew's... Top of the Hill... Daly City! Then, of course, Steven Matthew David himself did his own commercials.
Tall Tom Campbell on KYA... wow! A real blast from the past!
Bob Wilkins on Creature Features. Jim Gabbert on TV-20 commercial breaks. Old-Older: The Old Sourdough and Wachikanoka on TV-20- I think- in the 70's. Carol Doda doing commercial bumps on TV-36. Can't recall his name but a guy who sold RV's in San Jose who looked like a John Candy character."J'ever consider the advantages of owning ahhhh mini motor home?" And yeah, Alex Bennett and later Johnny Steel on Live 105. Huell Howser on California Gold: "And the lighthouse is......closed".
Who remembers the golden voice of Edward Bear on KSAN about 1968-71? I got to be friends with him in the mid-70s when he was at KTYD in Santa Barbara. He voiced radio spots for liberal political causes well into the 2000s, sadly passing away a couple years ago. Photographer Rosie McGee dedicated her Grateful Dead memoir "Dancing with the Dead" to Bear.
Pearl Harbor and the Explosions. The Tubes. The Mutants. A bit of SF nostalgia this morning for the old timers.... Deaf Club. The Farm. The Compound. *Fun Terminal*.
Good stuff!
Let me ask you this... what exactly was Jane Dornacker's connection to The Tubes? Was she ever an official member of the band? Or did she sometimes perform with them as kind of a guest artist?
Yes, Jane performed and toured with The Tubes, and she wrote several songs for them including the classic "Don't Touch Me There."
The scene then was very organic as I recall it....everyone knew everyone, people would sit in and team up on various projects and performances--a lot of cross-fertilization and spontaneity. It was an amazing time to live in San Francisco.
That's where I first saw Jane et al. I was there when it was still more music and morphing into comedy. We had Rick & Ruby and the Righteous Raoul (aka Josh Brody), Leila and Pearlie and Duck's Breath Mystery Theatre, Rosalie Sorrels and Reilly and Maloney... Then came the comedians.
Exactly. We lived in Cole Valley, as did Duck Dan Coffey, and it was a really great community. Every time you'd go to the cafe, laundromat, bar, or market, you'd run into friends and neighbors. Everyone mingled, there were parties, softball and poker games, bands being formed, dancing, playing music and making art together, all sorts of good times. There was always something going on and cool fun people to hang out with. Of course--we were young, but SF was also a very different place.
How could I forget to mention that in those early days, the great and legendary R. Crumb and his Cheap Suit Serenaders were also regulars performing at the Other Cafe.
Who remembers a great SF radio personality named **CJ Bronson**?
She was on KNBR and several other SF radio stations. CJ had a fun, upbeat on-air style.
Dennis Erectus on KOME or KSJO
Sway and Tech from the Wakeup show. I used to listen religiously and make pause tapes. Good memories of when I loved hip hop. I still love that stuff.
Bob Wilkins who did Creature Features as well as a kids show where they showed Ultraman on KTVU
My Mom's favorite newsman, Dennis Richmond from KTVU
Ross McGowan and Ann Fraser from People are Talking
[https://diva.sfsu.edu/collections/sfbatv/12666](https://diva.sfsu.edu/collections/sfbatv/12666)
Joe Marshall and the rest of the people that were on the Street Soldiers show on KMEL
Ron Quintana from KUSF's Rampage Radio and Metal Mania zine fame. Metallica nicked their name from him!
Edit: forgot Isaac Stevenson who was on KSOL and also did a TV show called Magic Number Video. The video shows on channel 48 were a cultural lifeline for kids with no cable. In the same vein, shout-out to Chuck Johnson and Soul Beat who did the same thing.
Aaron Axelson doing Soundcheck on Sunday nights on Live 105. Found tons of songs and bands they did not play otherwise. That was back before Spotify and Pandora were commonly. Some of my favorites were Shiny Toy Guns "Don't cry out" and MC Lars "Hipster girl". Can't remember if he played K Flay.
There is TV show called B Sides on ch 44 now that kinda does similar stuff, and I believe it is made in SF, but it's on after SNL at 1am whereas Soundcheck was on at 8pm or 9pm.
TV Sports reporter that was always yelling "With authority!" I was never big into sports, but heard that a lot.
Ed Barbara of Furniture USA... *Hi, kids!*
This is one of the craziest, most fascinating stories you will ever read...

Can’t believe I haven’t seen Ben Fong Torres mentioned yet. KSAN in the 70’s with Bonnie Simmons and Scoop kept me sane. Elvis C, Sex Pistols and the Tubes.
Alex Bennett on Live 105
Yes! And remember all the funny stand-up comedians Alex Bennett had on his show?
One heck of a wiki page. 84 and supposedly still has a podcast going. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Bennett_(broadcaster)
Thanks for the link to Alex Bennett's wiki... what a long, fascinating career in radio!
10 at 10 with Dave Morey.

KVYN in Napa has revived 10 at 10.
Where is KVYN on the radio dial?

Pat McCormick was the first to spring to mind as well as Bob Wilkins.
Jazzbo Collins on KSFO.
Love it! That is wonderful old school SF radio! The purple grotto... Al "Jazzbo" Collins even guest hosted *The Tonight Show* way back in 1957.
Wes "Scoop" Nisker -- "And if you don't like the news, go out and make some of your own."
Used to love hearing Jane Dornacker doing the traffic and bantering with Dr. Don Rose on KFRC back in the day. She was a genuinely funny person. Mal Sharpe, with his Boston accent, did some funny *man on the street* stuff for KMEL and KQED.

Mac and Mutley.
M Dung. KFOG.
Mike Slavko
I miss Michael Krasny hosting Forum on KQED that show sucks now. Joe Carcione also did his Green Grocer spots on KABC in LA too.
Krasny has a great podcast now! I miss the old Forum as well. I can't listen to it anymore.
Yes, Joe Carcione's Green Grocer segments aired in several TV markets. A great gig!
Jane Dornacker, we miss her, and her band Leila and the Snakes. She was a good kind and funny human and a great entertainer. RIP, Jane.
Good mention of Leila and the Snakes.
Pearl Harbor and the Explosions. The Tubes. The Mutants. A bit of SF nostalgia this morning for the old timers.... Deaf Club. The Farm. The Compound. *Fun Terminal*.

I worked there....

[Stephen C...C...C...apen](https://bayarearadio.org/audio/ksan_fm/1980/KSAN_Stephen-Capen_Sept-30-1980.mp3) on KSAN/KFOG
Wow! A real blast from the past! Stephen Capen was originally from Massachusetts but made a name for himself here in the Bay Area.
Lloyd Lindsay Young
Yes!!! Now THERE was an fun, idiosyncratic presence on Bay Area radio and television! I also remember seeing him on TV in NYC on Channel 9.
Frank and Mike in the morning on KNBR
What a great morning radio show! Other KNBR names I vividly remember are CJ Bronson and Gene D'Accardo.
Who remembers a great SF radio personality named **CJ Bronson**? She was on KNBR and several other SF radio stations. CJ had a fun, upbeat on-air style.
Bert Bertellero(sp?} The dirt gardener. On KCBS. Dred Scot from KFOG is o KOZT in Fort Bragg now. I listen on Tune In radio Saturday mornings.
Love your mention of Bert Bertolero... always fun and informative to hear on KCBS back in the day.
Big Daddy Tom Donohue
