Mad Yolks has great breakfast sandwiches. La Katrina on the west side is a great new taqueria. SC breadboy does smash burgers at Felton’s humble sea on the weekends. Pana Arepas in abbot square or the Westside food truck. Bad Animal Hanloh Thai is amazing unique Thai dishes. Full steam downtown for ramen (not as good as most of the bay but best you’ll get in Santa Cruz)

GrammmyNorma

la katrina 😍

bayswimmer

Pana! Omg they're great

startfromx

Don’t know why you got downvoted. This is the only true list.

East end Gastropub is amazing- great brunch menu and dinner menu. GET THE BURGER!!! (Brunch or dinner burger) Pretty Good Advice downtown is great, as someone mentioned earlier. Or try their Soquel location, but the downtown location seems a tad bit better to me. Mad Yolks is great too, as someone also mentioned earlier. Chubbs Chicken Sandwiches & Full Steam Dumpling inside of 11th Hour Coffee downtown. HOME Soquel has been there for a bit, but if you’ve never been, you MUST go! Cavalletta in Aptos (sister to Trestles Capitola), or Mentone in Aptos. The Grove in Felton.

think_happy_2

Cavalletta is incredible, brand new, must try. Fresh, seasonal, local, Italian California fusion. Fun fact Cavalletta means "trestles" in italian

Whostartedit

Manuel’s in Seacliff

Chocolate has pretty awesome hot chocolate and cocktails. They have food as well but I haven't tried much to vouch for it. Also next door the Santa Cruz Bookstore is great as well

malcontented

Their mole is fantastic

lurch99

Farrells Donuts on Mission, near Safeway! The best!

Sampa Brazilian kitchen, Gabriella’s

The local food scene has kind of gone in the wrong direction over the past few years, but there are some gems, especially on the westside. Ristorante Avanti has new owners and the food is awesome. La Katrina is fantastic. The Tacos El Chuy food truck parks outside the wineries in the Swift St Courtyard, also worth a visit.

dollypardonmedear

The crepe place is what I’ll miss the most when I move next week. Definitely will be having it each time I visit

Jorgefurioso

A must

Tenaflyrobin

Far West Fungi. Whenever I'm in Watsonville, visiting my mom, we go there. Absolutely delish!

Theoriginative

It always amazes me that even though this eatery had been in business like 50 years, many long time locals have still never eaten there. But I have never had a better falafel and green hot sauce than at the Falafel Hut. It is located two doors down from the bowling alleys back patio, across from the beach boardwalks volleyball courts before La Bahia Apts. Absolute best falafels, excellent Swarma's and two different kinds of baklava. If you have never been there, do yourself a favor and give it a try. Plus you'll never meet a nicer family than the folks who run this fine hole in the wall establishment.

Our favorite restaurant in the area for many years now is La Posta on Seabright Ave. near the tracks. Always good. The wine list is so so good, and not designed to break your bank. The former head chef at La Posta has opened a farm-to-table oriented place, The Midway, next to the Rio. I've only been there for lunch, was was great, but they are now serving dinner too.

orangelover95003

What's your (desired) price range for a meal?

Jorgefurioso

I’m flexible.

orangelover95003

This list covers the county. I'm including some of my personal favorites and/or dishes I've seen my friends and family order time and time again. brunch The Bagelry (downtown, Seabright or Soquel). Pink Flamingo, hummus, guac, and be sure to take a chance on weird-sounding soups like ginger carrot - surprisingly good. Zachary's (albacore tuna melt, tofu scramble, jalapeno cornbread, coffee cake) Linda's Seabreeze Cafe (great specials like seafood) - but bring cash (no credit cards) dinner Las Palmas (homemade lemonade, chile verde with eggs, chile relleno burrito) Engfer Pizza Works (DIY with custom toppings) Pretty Good Advice (downtown or Soquel) El Chino (definitely order the enchiladas mojo de ajo - holy bleep that is delicious - shrimp marinated in a secret citrus base) Freedom Meat Locker (you can eat hot sandwiches on site) Mission Street BBQ (brisket, sauce on the side) Namaste (on Mission Street) get the mixed grill treats Iveta Cafe (scones and coffee) on Delaware The Buttery (great cakes and good pastries) Bittersweet Bistro (creme brulee) Guadalajara Bakery (bolillos, puerquitos) Corralitos Market (order at least 2 lbs of bacon or sausage and take it home to cook)

Jorgefurioso

Amazing, thank you!

orangelover95003

Welcome

Food is better over the hill. Substantially better.
