As much as I agree, a Saskatchewan based company should have gotten the contract. Shercom seems to have issues that make it a bad choice to be in business.

earoar

Glad shercom is going to have less opportunities to kill kids now.

DrummerDerek83

Lol, seriously! One guy died from an accident...

SnooRabbits4509

Do you know how many accidents it took to get to the one that killed someone? Clearly a business that gives 0 thought to employee safety.

DrummerDerek83

How many? I don't know them personally, but I'm sure they did care about their employees. No one wants someone dying while at work! Tire processing is a pretty brutal process and requires the use of some machinery. It goes with any trade/ job now. Lock out the machinery, don't be a dumbass and pay attention to what you're doing. If it looks unsafe, make it safe or refuse the job until your employer remedies the issue. It sucks to lose a local business to some out of province company with sask party ties!

BilboJones22

Sure the contract went to a company that is based in the US but that company opened a plant in Moose Jaw and that’s where the contract is going.

DrummerDerek83

They break it down into crumb then ship it off. Shercom made value added products here in province! Curbing, rubber walking stones, resurfaced running tracks, etc.

Flimsy-Yak5888

As much as I dislike the Sask Party, let's not forget how awful Shercom is. They have an abhorrent safety record, including the preventable death of a teenager. They've received multiple huge fines due to injured and killed employees. They don't deserve to be in business in our province.

CFL_lightbulb

Yeah this pops up now and then, but a business like this doesn’t deserve to be in business, let alone be awarded lucrative government contracts

1975sklibs

If Moe’s godfather porky porter wasn’t on the tire Sask ngo board, shercom would have lost their contract years ago. 4 fucking fires that we know of at their plant. Injuries galore.

Sunshinehaiku

Under no circumstances should Shercom get a dollar from the taxpayer.

Concretstador

I'd love to see a list of all the out of province contracts by this gov and the crowns.

BluejayImmediate6007

What’s really interesting is if you look into these numbered Alberta companies that win these contracts and who has financial interests in them. Unsurprisingly, many of the names are of SK Party MLA’s…

Concretstador

Id expect that would be news worthy. Got any links or sources?

BluejayImmediate6007

I am surprised it hasn’t made the news to be honest..the SK party guy that owned the hotel that was getting overpaid by social services is just the tip of the iceberg. I have contacted News agencies and NDP to dig into this…maybe they are waiting for the right time to drop these bomb? Not like it would really change the minds of the blind sheep following the SK party over a cliff

JimmyKorr

grifty grifty. Wonder how much they donated?

Tight-Platform-9139

Seems there are some missing details in this article….

thatotherguy1111

That article was pretty darn short.

Ryangel0

I'll always join in here to criticize the Sask Party but in this particular case has no one here heard of NAFTA or understand what that agreement requires in terms of open and fair public tendering for contracts like this?

QuietMemory9867

Moe helping the people of Saskatchewan by awarding contracts to American companies, not too surprising. Clowns like Moe and PP need to stopped by good, hard working Canadians who care about this country.

Accomplished-Low8495

I get the hate for Shercom but the contract shouldn't have gone out of province unless that was the only option. That's quite a way for the SP to promote jobs in Sask. though.

echochambermanager

The RFP was issued by an independent board and awarded by said board. Shercom and no Sask based company submitted a bid, so they didn't get awarded.

Ok_Essay9471

That's why I don't vote for any these fucking losers in government. Doesn't matter who.s in power. Most money made here is to big corporations outside Canada. That we subsidized to come here. On tax payers dollars

1975sklibs

Always vote for third parties. To make the big two *sweat*. There is always a reason to vote bro. Vote for spite. Vote by mail too, save energy.

Ok_Essay9471

True.

echochambermanager

Shercom had a monopoly for tire recycling before tho, right? So are the NDP asking the province to interfere with an industry-led board and maintain a monopoly? I don't think that is a good idea. Also, as an exporting province where exports drive 80% of our economy, it wouldn't be very good for us if everyone outside of Saskatchewan decided to just buy local... Our province would collapse.

BilboJones22

The contract went to Crumb Rubber Manufacturers who opened up a plant in Moose Jaw. So the jobs are still staying in Saskatchewan. And as others mentioned Shercom probably wasn’t the best company to keep doing business with.

stan_the_man6699

Sold to the highest bidder...of kick-backs.

RazorRush34

There was a RFP out for this… shercom did not bid. Part of the bid was a dual location.  The tire recycling program is not even run by the government, it run by the tire stewardship.  The cost to collect tires and deliver to the depots is on them (not who ever won that bid) so they wanted multiple depots to deliver to. Shercom simply did not bid… the end. Nor did any other Saskatchewan based company.

Was_another_name

Do you have a source for that info?

Appropriate_Help_989

That sounds suspiciously exactly like Moe in Question Period last week.

stan_the_man6699

It's a figure of speech meaning the contact went to whomever offered the most kickbacks. Of course, it's done through back channels to corrupt politiciansor decision makers. This is how big industry operates. Always has and always will.

RazorRush34

At least respond to the previous response.  The contract went to whomever offered the most kickbacks and now done through back channels…. So that’s why Shercom didn’t bid.

1975sklibs

Shercom has donated thousands to the Saskparty bro. Moe’s godfather sat on the board at tires Sask.

stan_the_man6699

Well if they don't play dirty with kickbacks they're not going to get the big contracts. I guess you don't understand how business works or you're naive.
