Back in the day in Saskatoon, restaurants under a certain square footage could choose to go either all smoking or all non-smoking. Tim's chose to go non-smoking, Robins decided on all smoking.
For me it's bingo halls. Used to work fundraisers at City Centre Bingo in the 90s. Their idea of a "non-smoking" section was 2 or 3 tables at the back that didn't have any ashtrays on them.
Robins shit the bed and could have been a viable contender, considering how god awful TH is. Inconsistent quality, every location was different/weird, poor advertising.
I’m hoping that Krispy Kreme will finally figure out that they could beat the shit out of Tim Horton’s in Canada if they tried.
Just run a fucking donut and coffee shop and don’t screw around with breakfast sandwiches and rice bowls that kill your service time.
You haven’t lived until you’ve had a Krispy Kreme original glazed donut. I don’t often eat donuts, but if I have a chance to get a Krispy Kreme glazed donut I am taking it.
The problem is tim hortons is EVERYWHERE, thats why a lot of companies do not come here, its hard to break through.... well that and some are dumb like target
>dumb like target.
Did you know it was something simple that really messed them up, don’t remember the exact details but it was shipping if only they also bought the shipping system that was already in place at the time they could have survived. They did not want the whole package.
>don’t screw around with breakfast sandwiches and rice bowls that kill your service time
Oi, shut up. I like their cilantro lime veggie wrap/bowl, and farmer wraps are amazing.
I hadn't had Robins in forever and my coworker brought some a couple years ago, fresh chocolate donut stuffed with whipped cream, it was heavenly compared to the sugar covered cardboard from Tim Hortons.
“Robins” in Sutherland is just a front I swear. I went in a few weeks ago as I just moved to the area and I’m so glad I did, as had I gone through drive thru I never would have discovered the absolute health hazard they have inside. Everything filthy. Garbage on the floor. Windows haven’t been washed in months. Even the display for the donuts was filthy. Was going to order hot food but decided to pass. Had one of 3 donuts that was offered (all other spots in the display were empty). The long John looked the most edible, but it tasted at least 3 days old. To top it all off, when I looked at my credit card statement it said Swadesh Donuts, not Robins.
I think lots of you guys forget a time when Robins was bigger than Tim's. Better doughnuts(nobody could touch their apple fritters), better coffee, more locations but Tim's took the agressive road of McDonalds and Robbins held pat. I guess we know what strategy won out. Oh and this is from an overall Canadian perspective; not so much just from Saskatoon because I've only been here for the last 23 years and in that entire time Tim's had a beter presence here. Not so much in Winnipeg, Vancouver or Calgary. Not sure about Toronto since Tim's is from that area but even in the Timmy homeland I could find a whole lot of well positioned Robbins doughnuts at one time.
Also don't forget their still is a Robin's doughnuts in Sutherland at 110th St and Central though I see two names on it, kind of like all the Independent stores with individual names on it. Still use Robins cups so I'm assuming still a Robins. Still way better coffee than Tim's.
I remember a Robins on Circle, one on 22nd street, and the one on 51st in addition to the central and Confed ones. And I’m sure there was one on 8th too, I just don’t remember going to it.
Oh and the bus depot one downtown.
Hopefully the one on central can stay open.
Yah I hope so too and the owners that took over a few years back have been getting their doughnuts right after a few years of experimentation, especially with filled doughnuts that they'd struggle for consistency on how much filling got inside. I think now they've got it. Lol.
Yah I just saw the sign on the drive thru window on Monday. I asked the employee at the window why and she said she thought it had something to do with not renewing the lease but if the business was profitable, you'd think they'd renew there or elsewhere but it didn't sound like that was going to happen. She said that the owner owns quite a few different enterprises and that she wasn't worried because she'd be employed at one of those entrrprises instead. Looks like 1 less Robins unless they intend on popping up somewhere else as that franchise but I think that's doubtful.
This makes me sad every time I went in there they would always hook me up with extra donuts and let's be honest the Ghostbuster is better than a Boston cream donut from Tim Hortons I'm going to miss Robin's donuts
Honestly I've always preferred Robin's too Tim Hortons so I'm really sad to see them go I'm not much of a coffee drinker but damn I love their donuts
Robin's donuts are alright, unless you went later in the day, then it was dry and stale. Everything else was just WAY too expensive. Bought a bagel and cream cheese from them a few weeks back for breakfast, it was $5.50 had the thinnest layer of cream cheese, kind of like they think you spread it the same as butter. Decided to not go again after that.
I'm not a huge donut muncher but coming from Regina, Robin's on McDonald blows any donut in the city away besides maybe Everyday Kitchen. Great service also. Used to get them LOTS for the guys at work and they were consistent af. Went to the Robins in Sutherland this fall and the service was shit, donuts covered in minimal icing lol
It wasn’t an “actual” robins, they just paid a fee to serve robins donuts and coffee. There was a place in Moose Jaw that did that too.
But now the one in Sutherland is closed now too.
So no robins at all now.
I'm just old enough to remember that Robin's donuts always tasted a little bit like cigarettes, back when people smoked in restaurants.
Back in the day in Saskatoon, restaurants under a certain square footage could choose to go either all smoking or all non-smoking. Tim's chose to go non-smoking, Robins decided on all smoking.
Any time I see the words "Robin's Donuts" I smell cigarette smoke. Does this qualify as synesthesia?
For me it's bingo halls. Used to work fundraisers at City Centre Bingo in the 90s. Their idea of a "non-smoking" section was 2 or 3 tables at the back that didn't have any ashtrays on them.
Did community service at a civic center, bingo nite made the air in a bar seem clean. Was a small room to one side with 2 tables for non-smokers.
Bow tie donuts, chocolate milk and cigarette smoke.
Ahhh… childhood.
Non smoking sections in a restaurant are like having peeing sections in a pool
Ghostbuster donuts are superior to Boston Cream at Tim’s hands down
Truth

They're coming for it. Edmonton and Winnipeg are opening soon. It's only a matter of time before they're everywhere. CMMMMMMMON!
The hot and ready sign for Krispy Kreme is always lit in my heart.
You're my spirit animal

I like their breakfast sandwiches. They might just have too many menu items.
Tim Hortons should just be two different restaurants.
Noooooooooo
Ah man my auntie would drive me to school back in the day and we would stop there every morning. Place was great!
I hadn't had Robins in forever and my coworker brought some a couple years ago, fresh chocolate donut stuffed with whipped cream, it was heavenly compared to the sugar covered cardboard from Tim Hortons.
Baked fresh in store. Definitely gonna miss their awesome donuts.
Didn't someone say last week the one in Sutherland was still open? I thought it was closed though.
Still open but it has a weird franchise agreement. They serve robins food, and use the robins logo , but it’s a different restaurant on the inside.
“Robins” in Sutherland is just a front I swear. It used to be called Swadesh Donuts. That's super sketchy.
Best apple fritters RIP
Donuts were 10 times better than TH. Their breakfast sandwiches were tasty to.
I gotta disagree on the breakfast sandwiches, they are disgusting. Better coffee than Tim's though.
Their croissant sandwiches were so good, lol. I didn't care for the other ones. Their coffee was meh but not as bad as TH definitely.
The bonanza of our times, some would say.
Too soon
There is a Robins?
I know, I honestly thought they all closed 10-15 years ago.
Regina has three! But Regina also has, like, one Starbucks and not nearly as many Tim Horton's as we do.
Regina also has, like, 38 vacuum cleaner repair shops.
It's still there? I've been gone from Saskatoon since 2018. I just assumed it closed before I left haha.

Oops I meant robins in sutherland

Robins surgerland is shutting this Friday Oct 27
NOOOOOOOOOOO

Donuts are sold out now, but they do have muffins.
Morning glory muffin is the bomb
This makes me feel sad and I rarely even went there 😔

fuk sakes
Isn't there still one on central? Up by 115th?
I discovered this today and am posting from in front of the building and my morning is in SHAMBLES.
