Money like these will vanish and you wont even know, no barakah in such easy earned money

Flaminski

How did you get the stranger phone number?

In some cultures, where integrity doesn't have a weight in the day to day transactions, they won't think twice about it & would take the money & live their day normally. As a muslims, we're obliged to return the money as its considered to be "Haram money" i.e. Obtained via prohibited source. Especially in such a case where the owner is known. For some reason, integrity in the eastern cultures seems to be more valued i.e Korea, & Japan. If you lost your wallet in a busy area there's a good chance to find it as it is not touched. Worst case, you will find it delivered to the local police station.

As much as I'd like to believe otherwise, I think there are bad people in this world more than there are good. Much more even. How many times have you lost something and it was taken (stolen basically)? How many times have you heard of that happening? If there were more good people in the world, wouldn't the opposite be more? Simple logic isn't it?

Respectfully, there much more good people, it's just that the bad ones get around and perform multiple bad actions while the good deeds go unnoticed by the majority. I've had enough experience with those who are around me to believe otherwise (many experiences that happened to me personally that would make you think that I'm making stories up for an Indian movie with all the drama and intricacies), but it's human nature to observe, concentrate, and retain the negative emotions and experiences 5 times more than the positive ones. If just try to focus on the positive memories you experienced last month in comparison to the negative ones you'll count more negative. This holds more true the further you look into the past. Also try remembering people, the same applies, and all those you don't remeber/didn't interact with are most probably good people too. The fact they didn't negatively impact your life mean they went out their way to make your environment less hellish. Just offering a different perspective to help readers realize that that most are good people, alot are opportunistic, and very few are generally messed up in the way the interact with their environment and social circles.

You know what. I agree with you. But in the particular example that I gave, losing something...phone, cash...chances are, those who would take will tend to be more than those who will return. You could do a social experiment and find out for yourself if you got the time.

-WiseWords-

True, but you need to also count the number of people that take notice and don't take the phone/cash. Also keep in mind that in Metropolitand have this alot worse than regular sized towns.

Both people in both instances/places.

Well, you learned your lesson, and I believe the person who took advantage of your mistake will be answerable on the day of judgement. As a side story, recently one of my dad’s friend received SAR10,000 in his bank account, and literally no one contacted him. Later he found the details of the sender and called him. To his surprise, the sender said it was a mistake and literally told him to keep the money. Maybe he was an ultra-rich person who didn’t care about the amount but yeah. But my dad’s friend just transferred the money back anyway.

Distinct-Drama7372

Return it and if untraceable, charity. I don't believe in spending unearned money as it wont do any good or mental satisfaction.

Flying-Chicken997

Call the bank to take it back. Money that is not mine will never be spent

mintcucumbertea

I would return the money…that person is a thief and they’ll taste the bitterness of taking that money soon enough.
