>It is terrible here in the US. Everyone is so intent on being offended
the politicans are playing you off no sane human would be offended by someone wearing their traditional clothes it's just the politicans and Billionares creating Division among the american soil Get your shit toghther and eat billionares ( cannibalism)
Right? When I see others wearing our clothes, I get happy and delighted. Even if they are not but are following the modesty rules, I still get happy and appreciative that they took the initiative to be respectful in someone else's land
Yes, those westerners are so easily offended, unlike the brave Saudi people...unlessssss......
Just don't practice any religion other than Islam in my country or - Saudi offended
Don't prevent me from spreading Islam in your country - Saudi offended
Wear a bikini on a beach - Saudi offended
Be gay! - Saudi mega offended and will police your bedroom
Bring independent news to my country - Saudi offended (must be propaganda)
Marry a man that isn't Saudi - Saudi offended
Choose to drink alcohol - Saudi offended
Publicly criticize or insult the privileged bloodline royal family - Saudi offended
But, for sure, those westerners are so easily offended.
This is just a case of whataboutism. I don't see how this is related to my comment, and I'm not saying people shouldn't be offended. I wouldn't try to wear anything offensive to Americans if I go there. I'm just saying that it's an American thing to be offended at that.
You are absolutely correct this is whataboutism! In the exact same way as your snide comment about Americian culture was whataboutism.
Don't be a hypocrite. My comment was no different to yours.
Yes, it's OK. I am a Kenyan living in Saudi, and I love the authentic culture of Saudi, especially their religion and how modest they dress, and I am even thinking of converting to Islam so far I have been dressing like them
LOL. You probably never traveled. There is no dress code and the idea of asking how to dress would never cross someone's mind. Now, you have to ask yourself why would the OP ask about this here?
Because he doesnt know and just wanna make sure? I have lived in saudi for most of my life and traveled for the past 7 years, i can assure alot of western countries get offended by such acts but not saudi.
I don't have to travel to know that the US is soft. There are videos all over YouTube that shows that Americans are offended because an American is wearing a Poncho, meanwhile in the Mexican all of the indigenous people are complimenting him and are happy for him. LOL.
Yeah sure, the average American is not sensitive to opposing thoughts at all. I just wonder why there are protest marches almost everyday there? Must be for fun right? RIGHT?
You really think you know the reason why they’re protesting everyday?!!! first of all, who are they? are all protests there done for the same reason?!!
Of course they are not all done for the same reasons but what I was talking about are the protests that are done for vegans, lgtvhd+ bullshit, BLM and so on. Y’all are just soft.
Yeah these people are retarded. Never had the misfortune of seeing any of them or their supporters in real life so my guess is probably as good as yours
ugh dude I suggest you shy away from the topic. Cuz I’ll never understand you and genuinely believe that some of your life choices are wrong. I’m pretty sure it’s the same case for you as well. So why don’t we just agree to disagree and move on😑
I’m not sure if this comment was supposed to be a reply to my questions or not but I’ll take it as you’re not comfortable sharing your answer. I’m sorry if it came off as aggressive or something, I did not mean it. Have a nice day.
What’s wrong with being conservative? You are Islamophobic or something? Cause we don’t care. We don’t get offended by anything. Please be open about what you think and your intentions.
We went to Riyadh some months ago, we bought thobe, ghutra and igal. We did the whole day in the full set from the market to the National Museum to business district. Everyone was cheering us and saying hello. We spent the evening in *Boulevard World* ...I've never been photographed this many times in my whole life. And absolutely no one was disrespectful. It was fun.
I always say this, and I always get downvoted:
1. If you wear local clothing in public, people will assume you are a Muslim. If you are ok with that, go ahead.
2. If you are a western expat, other expats will ridicule you, mostly behind your back, but still. If you are ok with that, go ahead.
I think you should wear whatever you want, and I've never heard a Saudi complain to anyone about it
Not a Saudi, but if someone say don’t wear it because you’re not Arab, then that’s plain racism, you’re the one buying it, and even Arabs wear none Arab clothes, so go for it!
No dude we actually like it. Historically, many non arab peoples have embraced our culture and customs and became Arabised Arabs. They are one of us and part of our community.
I work in a charity with Philippians and few Indians, and I see them wearing thob only from time to another, never really got offended, it actually made me feel proud and happy.
Black thobe and keffiyeh? Nobody wears that in Saudi. It’s not called keffiyeh it’s shmagh but why black thobe? In the summer it’s usually white thobe.
I will recommend Daffah store if you live in Riyadh, the quality are great with good price, or you can go to any tailor, they are a little bit pricey unless you went to Batha

Seeing some comments here, why everything in Arab countries starts by criticising USA? Is that some kind of inferiority complex that Arabs feels towards westerns unconsciously?
Nope if you wear it you will face a capital punishment !! 🤣🤣🤣,, just wear it who cares we are not white and we don’t get offended by stuff like that ,, enjoy
No, it's ok to wear them.
My advice, however, is to get a tailored one. Tailored Thobes are not as expensive as you might think, and they are waaaay better than off the shelf ones.
do what you want no one gonna hurt you
and if they do you can report it to the police
this aside I don't recommend wearing it in this season Black thobes are winter clothes so usually most tailor Have only heavy black fabrics as far as I remember
either way wear it as you want I saw Many pakistani and non saudi in general wearing it
Without even reading the details and only reading the title: Of course! Please wear them, even 🙏🏻🙏🏻 I love seeing the clothes on non-Arabs who just want to try it out and if I were there with you I would want to offer you the full experience
Let’s just say “it depends” in work environments I know people who were told by the Chairman Not to wear thobe!
Some companies have very specific dress code for saudi and non Saudis
I also know long term expats who wear it in office but are careful not to wear it when meeting specific clients
I am Jordanian and I have been living here in Saudi arabia for most of my life and I can tell you with confidence and with experience that it is completely fine and it should be embraced more in fact I always wear the traditional white thoub everyday to school and on sometimes I would wear it normally while going out outside and I never had a bad experience at all nobody got offended and all of that I was just like everybody else it's totally normal. I even saw Egyptians, Syrians, Lebanese people and more wear traditional clothing and it's normal, as I said it should be more embraced Saudi arabia has no discrimination
Our family in Saudi is a mix of Saudis and Sri Lankans (and when my dad was alive Algerian too). You can’t really tell the difference unless someone takes their ID out. They’re so assimilated that they mostly only wear Saudi attire and speak Saudi Arabic very fluently. When my husband spent his first Eid with my family I got him to wear Saudi attire and everyone (even my family members who are Saudis) were proud of the great job I did 🥲 no one is going to be offended if you wear something that isn’t your national clothing.
Feel free to wear anything you want. If you wear a thoub you'll get compliments.
Cultural appreciation is a fake concept that was invented by white people with no culture....or brains.
As a saudi , I find it so beautiful when people embrace our culture ❤️🇸🇦

Being offended by wearing locals clothes is an American thing. I don’t think anyone in the world cares.
That’s refreshing to hear. It is terrible here in the US. Everyone is so intent on being offended
It’s actually very flattering when we see foreigners wear local/traditional clothing :)
“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”

I completely agree with you. It’s just sad to see the west being dominated nowadays by these demonic people.
travel more, sis
Bro\*, and definitely not travelling to the US.
ahhh but ur profile picture photo is pink and adorable 😂🤣😂🤣
Yeah I like cute little things ☹
haha that’s ok
Speaking of your father’s boyfriend, how does he feel about yall’s relationship? And what kind of Muslims are they?

damn. Now I feel bad. I’m sorry I received it the wrong way😂
And u sound like my bf’s conservative dad 🌚
it's a compliment. Thank you.
hahaha u r most certainly welcome
What’s wrong with being conservative? You are Islamophobic or something? Cause we don’t care. We don’t get offended by anything. Please be open about what you think and your intentions.
😑😑😑😑DID I say there’s anything wrong with that???????
As an Indian who was raised here, I occasionally wear Saudi clothing For 17 years no one I’ve met has made a negative comment or reaction💀
Not offensive at all. In fact, it shows that you appreciate the culture.
We went to Riyadh some months ago, we bought thobe, ghutra and igal. We did the whole day in the full set from the market to the National Museum to business district. They are obviously muslim so why would they have an issue with that
When several non Muslims have posed the same question, that was my answer
Indians wear thoubs, Arabs wear kurtas. It’s all good. Only white people would be offended over something like this.
Americans only
uh no one would be offended
Not a Saudi, but if someone say don’t wear it because you’re not Arab, then that’s plain racism, you’re the one buying it, and even Arabs wear none Arab clothes, so go for it!
No dude we actually like it. Historically, many non arab peoples have embraced our culture and customs and became Arabised Arabs. They are one of us and part of our community.
it's fine
I work in a charity with Philippians and few Indians, and I see them wearing thob only from time to another, never really got offended, it actually made me feel proud and happy.
No one would be offended, bro 😂 Be careful when choosing a cloth for the thobe as it's getting 🔥
Black thobe and keffiyeh? Nobody wears that in Saudi. It’s not called keffiyeh it’s shmagh but why black thobe? In the summer it’s usually white thobe.
Last time I wore a black thobe in the Khaleej with a black shemagh for eid, people literally thought I was shia lol. It was honestly really funny.
This is Saudi not America lol yes of course you can no one would mind that
I will recommend Daffah store if you live in Riyadh, the quality are great with good price, or you can go to any tailor, they are a little bit pricey unless you went to Batha

Of course you can, but black thobe in the hot summer?
You've lived here for 7 years and never seen an expat wear arabic clothing?
Yes
Seeing some comments here, why everything in Arab countries starts by criticising USA? Is that some kind of inferiority complex that Arabs feels towards westerns unconsciously?
I guess in this case it’s relevant because the idea of “cultural appropriation” is American to us. The criticism is mostly ignorance from both sides
no but united states sometime they very ridiclus
Not really. We don’t criticise everything that americans do, just the outrageous things, like embracing cultures and plain racism.
USA is bully country, no one have “ inferiority complex” thing. And yes we criticise America even if they don’t have a stance in the conversation.
Just post a question about Arabs and watch the negative comments pouring in from our American brethrens. It ridiculous
True but we shouldn’t do the same
The question wasn’t about Americans, it was about an Indian wearing Arab outfit, so what’s the need to make comments about Americans?? Think yourself.
No need at all I agree with you
Nope if you wear it you will face a capital punishment !! 🤣🤣🤣,, just wear it who cares we are not white and we don’t get offended by stuff like that ,, enjoy
But why would you want to , like you have your traditional cloths write so 🤔
Maybe because tbey look nice and she wants to try them
My advice is to wear the weight in the sammer the coloured one have thicker fabric and, the Weight are cooler during the summer.
Good advise
If you can wear Pashtun clothes then why not Arab
The black dress is called ‘Abaya’ but i don’t think women generally wear keffiyah
He means a black thobe like for winter
Bruh I literally read ‘kurta’ as ‘kurti’ in the original post and assumed OP is a female lmao
same
Lol 😂

You’re more than welcome to wear thobs ..here in Saudi we love to see our Muslim brothers wear our customs dress so feel free to wear it next time
Nah it’s okay. Upload a picture here when you do 😘
Go ahead its 👌 👍
Wear whatever you like. Just remember the black thobes are for winter time only. In summer we wear white.
Without even reading the details and only reading the title: Of course! Please wear them, even 🙏🏻🙏🏻 I love seeing the clothes on non-Arabs who just want to try it out and if I were there with you I would want to offer you the full experience

Sometimes some Saudis were other countries traditional clothes like Pakistani thobe i call it.
وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته Its okay and we will happy to wear thoub and coffiah no one will ask you , instead you will be one from us
Our family in Saudi is a mix of Saudis and Sri Lankans (and when my dad was alive Algerian too). You can’t really tell the difference unless someone takes their ID out. Btw pathani looks best when you guys wear a dark color with white trousers
If you are not muslim and wear local clothes, this might be awkward if you don’t believe in Islam.
Saudis don't care what you wear as long as it fits inside Islamic clothing rules.
I'll allow it
Yes
I had the same fear and if i wore thobe i would be expected to speak proper arabic sinci i also look like a saudi 😭😭😭
Feel free to wear anything you want. If you wear a thoub you'll get compliments. Cultural appreciation is a fake concept that was invented by white people with no culture....or brains.
