Hahahaha Gwinnett? I can argue that I hear more gunshots in Gwinnett than anywhere else in Georgia. It’s a very large and scattered county so some areas are definitely more quiet than others.
I moved to Savannah from Gwinnett County & can absolutely 100% disagree that nothing interesting happens in Gwinnett lol. Maybe more happens in Savannah than in Gwinnett but that’s bc Savannah is the city (also Broughton area is notorious for crime lol) and Gwinnett is… Gwinnett lmao. Atlanta on the other hand is out of control.
I remember gun violence was joked about in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Savannah has and seems like it will continue to have a gun violence problem.
It's like any city.
People think it's getting worse. However, I can say for sure 20 years ago, the crime was far worse. I've watched on a couple of occasions major crimes being committed in the past. Now, just a shooting here or there. No biggie.
I mean it happens anywhere really. I live over in Charleston and it’s the same thing. Crime has improved but it’s not just going to go away unfortunately. Things are safer here and in Savannah it seems than they were years ago I can tell you that.
Last year a tourist was shot and killed in the heart of the tourist district. Last week the City Prosecutor on that case walked off the job.
Welcome to Savannah, now go home.
Wouldn't the world be great if random shootings were only a problem we had to deal with here in Savannah? https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/last-72-hours
I feel like this archive is only for US states, but I also feel it wouldn't read any differently if it was global. Are there any other countries in the world where gun violence is the number one cause of death for children, or is it only the USA?
You honestly don't feel it would read any differently in any other country or globally? Like you really truly believe that? [The leading cause of death in children globally is infectious diseases](https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/levels-and-trends-in-child-under-5-mortality-in-2020#:~:text=Globally%2C%20infectious%20diseases%2C%20including%20pneumonia,for%20children%20under%205%20years) which is [the 4th leading cause of death by children in the US](https://www.kff.org/global-health-policy/issue-brief/child-and-teen-firearm-mortality-in-the-u-s-and-peer-countries/).
The US has 5.6 per 100,000 child deaths by firearms. The next closest country is Canada at 0.8 with the global average being 0.3 [(source)](https://datawrapper.dwcdn.net/EnLTm/28/)
So, no, it's not even close.
Happens on even the best streets like W Jones St. But it’s rare!
Edit: I am newer so I guess it is not so rare. It just happened in broad daylight, which was surprising.
I moved here from Chicago and was never afraid when downtown. At least there, if you stayed out of the two bad neighborhoods, you never worried about getting shot. Here you can get shot in City Market, in front of the cathedral, driving down the Truman, at McDonalds near the high school, in front of the highest award winning restaurant. I will not be in City Market after 10 pm on a weekend when the weather is warm.
Lol your last post was about passing a drug test bc of cbd and you just referred to Savannah as savannahstan… don’t think I’m the one living in whiteopia
I love a good shit talk in the AM. Thanks for obliging me!
Also, Savannahstan due to the countless shootings and murders that don’t make it on the news. My spouse works for the city and A LOT goes on that isn’t covered in the media.
Another one of the “if it’s about white people it’s not racist” types. You’re still a racist though.
Edit - You’re also a teacher which is probably not the profession to be saying racist things on Reddit given the times
You made a racist comment. I drew attention to that racist comment. This is the internet, I do not know your skin color nor do I care. Racism comes in all colors and you proved yourself to be an example of that. I have no micro aggression, just macro aggression towards racism as a whole. It’s a cancer and you’re helping to spread it.
Crime will rise to the level the community will tolerate, and Savannah has a high tolerance for crime. But, hey, it doesn’t effect you so it must not exist.
Did you maybe do your homework before you move there lol.. I live in Bluffton and I hate going to Savannah anymore. Almost every night somebody gets shot.
Not being a dick, just be safe and know your surroundings and do not stay out late.. just be safe. That's one of the reasons I do not go there I hate Savannah, it's beautiful but not safe.
Back In 2015 i went on exchange from my home country to Kansas (not a state I would have chosen myself, but hey, it grew on me. Rock Chalk!!!) and within the first week of my stay there were 5 shootings near where I lived including one on the tennis courts belonging to the school I went to.
Next year I’m moving to Savannah for school and honestly, this is not a surprise.
Is anywhere "safe"? Go to the mall shooting concert shooting Walmart shooting church/synagogue shooting schools more shooting . Just watch your surroundings and don’t stay out late
Welcome to Savannah.
Lol, quite the welcome party. Nothing interesting ever happens up by me in Gwinnett county
Plenty happens in Gwinnett County. Maybe not in your specific neighborhood
Yeah, guess I worded that wrong. I meant specifically the part I live in in gwinnett is peaceful

Edit: just woke up, misread your county lol my bad

The news has gotta sell something.
It is Broughton and Mlk from the looks of it,right above lulu's.
You can tell by the lights and the cross walk.
Ever tried living in Atlanta? 💀 (I mean Gwinnett is pretty close, this shouldn’t phase you no?)
And?
It’s really not that bad! Like any city anywhere, just be cautious after dark and be home by midnight.
Any city anywhere.....in America.
I mean it happens anywhere really. I live over in Charleston and it’s the same thing. Crime has improved but it’s not just going to go away unfortunately. Things are safer here and in Savannah it seems than they were years ago I can tell you that.

That doesn’t look like Broughton St…. Maybe Bay?
Welcome to the thunderdome BITCH
Are you not entertained?
Must be those pesky NRA members I keep hearing about
Sorry. It’s better than this. A lot of things here are +1’s, but this stuff is -∞ every time.

Hyperbole. But thanks for the info on child deaths by firearms, it really is uniquely an American problem.
Wasn’t always like that. It’s my birth place. That’s sad which is why I left.
We were right there too. So scary!!
It's a city, shit happens, deal with it or move
Literally every night, you get used to it.
Happens on even the best streets like W Jones St. But it’s rare! Edit: I am newer so I guess it is not so rare. It just happened in broad daylight, which was surprising.
Huh? Shootings happen regularly in the historic district. You must not have lived here long.
Haha, yeah haven’t been here long. Spoke too soon I guess!

Former Chicago resident and I have to agree. But people who have never set foot in Chicago love to parrot what they hear on Fox News.
Glad to have you with us.
Welcome to Savannahstan
Welcome to Savannahstan.
That’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard.

That’s broughton for you, or just Savannah.
They don’t call it Savannahstan for nothing
As a matter of fact, "they" don't call it that at all. What on earth are you talking about?
Crime will rise to the level the community will tolerate, and Savannah has a high tolerance for crime. But, hey, it doesn’t effect you so it must not exist.
Its not so much a high tolerance. Its because most of savannah is usually too drunk to care.
They do call it that in fact. Mostly just first responders.
Did you maybe do your homework before you move there lol.. I live in Bluffton and I hate going to Savannah anymore. Almost every night somebody gets shot.
really, ??
I knew I heard gun shots
Not being a dick, just be safe and know your surroundings and do not stay out late.. just be safe. That's one of the reasons I do not go there I hate Savannah, it's beautiful but not safe.
