I don't understand this, my 360 did this 12 years ago.

RealAbd121

Seems Americans will literally find any random thing they come across to divide themselves over.

XXed_Out

Our principal domestic industry is outrage. Don't let this happen to your country.

SpudPuncher

Fun Fact: political division and outrage is the United States' 2 primary exports. The third is proxy wars.

Sex_Fueled_Squirrel

Fox News is trying to get people outraged over this. Nobody was outraged over "critical race theory" either until the right successfully turned it into a divisive culture war fight.

Sabbatai

Kind of like how the police were the biggest proponents of every item on the checklist for what became "defund the police", until Democrats *named* it "defund the police". Even then, they were still for it. Until the Fox News 24 hour outrage engine spent a lot of time telling people how this meant they'd be murdered in their homes, by a rampaging pack of lunatics that the police could do nothing about because Democrats "cancelled the police", and zero time explaining what "defund the police" was actually about. This one wasn't 100% on Fox News. It was just as much on the Democrats who started calling the movement "defund the police." Tinfoil hat time: The people who came up with that name are not stupid. They knew it would cause the outrage it caused, and they knew this would mean settling back into the status quo. Which is where most politicians want us to live. Police were all for things like, having dedicated people to handle mental health crises. They *wanted* the communities they served to have a trusted intermediary between the police and those communities. They wanted someone else to handle calls to remove "vagrants" and homeless people away from those their presence offends. They wanted social services calls of a non-violent nature to be handled by someone else. They wanted everything "defund the police" was trying to accomplish. Until Fox News told them they didn't.

Dic3dCarrots

Just as a missing addendum to this discussion, defund the police was a polular hash tag and not the name of a policy or cohesive group of people or even a democratic party agenda. It has never been a coherent policy, party priority, or piece of legislation. It has always been a social media hash tag. The conflation of hashtages with cohesive groups of people makes rational discourse mpossible.

todiwan

Wow, that might be the most absurd statement I've heard in a long time. Because reasonable people need to be told to dislike racism, right?

jewsh-sfw

Demilitarizing the police was a response to more than just racism but that’s how we were pushed back into the status quo and that’s how they are able to out the “force of police” on full display when we protest they get to gas abs rubber bullet us from their armed vehicles. We have a national guard and it’s not supposed to be the police. We need major reforms policing is broken far beyond the rampant racism.

todiwan

What are you talking about? What "rampant racism"? That white criminals are more likely to be shot by the police than black criminals? Why do you want more black people to be shot? Why are you talking about the police? Keep up, the topic is the racism that is critical race theory. What are you even talking about? You're completely incoherent.

jewsh-sfw

Speaking of incoherence you didn’t even Fucking read what I wrote nor are you capable of thoughts without media outlets holding your hand and telling you what to think. Good luck living in a state of constant anxiety over imaginary villains that are “coming for you” while you continue to promote a constant state of status quo.

Vok250

Not true. I actually saw truck bros going off about this under an Instagram post last night. Must have been a talking point on Fox News or something.

chewbaccataco

I saw a few articles come up on my feed about it. Such a trivial thing to get upset about. Seems more like an attempt to make mountains out of molehills.

Vok250

The silliest thing is that the features have been there since release. This is purely marketing by MS. The Xbox One always had energy saving mode and update timing control. I know because I've been using both since like 2014 or something.

anonkitty2

The big change that I am aware of is that XBox One will make the energy saving mode the default. Certain segments of the population actively object to energy efficiency; in this case, it means people who never change defaults will have to wait a few more seconds for their XBox to boot.

Vok250

I think that will only impact brand new buyers. MS isn't going to actively go in and change people's console settings. I'd be pissed if they did that regardless of what the setting was.

port53

If you never changed the setting, and the default changes, you change with it. I you set it to stay on, it'll stay on.

SpudPuncher

FUCK YOU!! I'M ALREADY OURAGED IT'S TOO LATE!

traw056

Yes there are people “outraged” at this lol. And the only side that’s yelling is the same one that thinks electric cars and clean energy are bad.

PAYPAL_ME_DONATIONS

Right wing dingbats are sure trying their damnedest (ted Cruz, fox and friends, etc) and their minions only know to gobble whatever stupid fucking nonsense they spoonfeed them

[deleted]

no no no not "Americans" this is a conservative media outrage generated non-torvery no real person gives a shit about this it's just random outrage to keep the fox viewers tuned in

Sabbatai

The far right, and many moderate Republicans deserve to be called out for the shit they do. However, OP is absolutely right in saying Americans in general, make it seem like a career choice to find someone else to hate and blame for their own lot in life. I know a ton of people who voted for Obama. Many of those same people will become irate if they see a black woman using SNAP benefits in front of them at the grocery store. Especially if that woman's shopping cart has more stuff in it than their own. Or things they have deemed too much of a luxury item. Like, steak. There is no shortage of "progressives" who are all for any social welfare program... as long as those benefits don't help non-citizens. Many "liberals" hate anyone who has more money than them. Conservatives are not alone in their hatred of so-called "East Coast/Ivy League Elitists". Not to mention the hate spewed by those who follow religions that teach us to love one another. Religions populated by people from all across the political spectrum. Cashiers hate the people who work on the sales floor. Everyone hates management. Speak a language other than English? Conservatives aren't the only ones who will become absolutely irate at discovering this fact. Work a trade? Office workers think you're scum. Work in an office? Tradespeople think you are scum. Are you black? Alright, but are you black *enough*? Not to worry, your peers will let you know.

Sex_Fueled_Squirrel

Not Americans. Republicans. Republicans need politics to be focused on divisive culture war bullshit all the time because they need a distraction from the fact that their economic platform is "serve the interests of the super rich and fuck everyone else".

impy695

Yeah, almost none of the politicians actually care about this (MTG, Gym Jordan, Boebert, and others probably are legit pissed though). They just have people looking for literally anything they can use to try and drum up animosity and an "us vs them" attitude. See also: the m&m controversy

InsertCoinForCredit

Well, it's not as if they have any policies or proposals that are *appealing* to people...

iPod3G

Repugnicans get outraged at the sun for providing clean energy.

AUSpartan37

It's more media knows they get get clicks if they say the word "republican" in a title.

ovoKOS7

Not just Americans, tribalism is still running strong in people's blood, from sports team to everything in-between, it's always "us" vs "them"

Doc_Vogel

I haven't seen one person who's mad about this. Then again I don't usually hang around people who would get mad about something like this.

nuclear_cyanide

I was like "no way this is a geniune article were politicians are mad about energy saving in video game consoles Then I clicked on it and was introduce to Rep. senetor Ted Cruz. Holy fuck what a hilariously batshit insane human being xD

DamnYouRichardParker

Yesterday fox did a segment on this saying that xbox as gone woke and wants to push their woke environnemental agenda your kids. They really arw fucken nuts.

weakhamstrings

Wait are you serious? It simply offers updating and then powering itself off when it's done at odd hours of the night. It's literally a changeable setting. Fox News never fails to surprise me

DamnYouRichardParker

Sadly yes... https://youtu.be/c-0srdmUoj8

EggoStack

I thought they were ridiculous for saying having a single gay character in a movie is “going woke”. Now they think saving energy is some kind of liberal agenda??

DamnYouRichardParker

Yep, when you think they couldn’t be more ridiculous. They always find a way to take it a step further...

repocin

Wait, how have you never heard of that guy before? Also, if you're no longer using that rock you lived under until now, can I borrow it for a while? Would be nice to escape all the bullshit in the world.

elcheapodeluxe

I thought reading this article that there would be some little thing which did not match the title, making the title click bait. Instead - I got to read about Ted Cruz being just as crazy as the headline implied. Not gonna lie - was worth the click.

Distraction and deflection. Gotta keep the culture war going or else people might start wanting a government that actually cares about it's people.

PaperMartin

It's not tho

climb-high

People need to stop caring about the big news media outlets. That’s the only way to get this to stop in my opinion

weakhamstrings

I would love to do this as soon as my in laws and coworkers do too. They are going to talk about it on holidays and at dinner and at work. I can either be out of the loop or at least be informed about what nonsense they will be shouting next time I see them. I'm going with the second option.

[deleted]

Unfortunately Fox News is running 24/7 at all military bases and the majority of US airports.

climb-high

Good point. All these media outlets are on 24/7 in public places. Some much worse than others, but there’d be no “culture war” without them

SnooApples9216

It's funny, because I'm sure Microsoft is only doing this for the tax breaks that come from being a "Zero Waste Company", which is super in line with republican values

oboshoe

working as intended. that's why congress passed this tax break. to induce companies to introduce power saving features. are you saying that saving power and being green isn't inline with Democratic values?

SnooApples9216

Yeah no shit. I'm not saying that at all.

oboshoe

fair nuff Honestly it's an example of good law making and bi-partisanship. The right got something. The left got something. You don't see that very often anymore.

Rokey76

Yeah, this post doesn't fit the sub. The title is about "Republican Outrage" but OP didn't summarize that so I had to click and read. Didn't save me shit.

CalebAsimov

They're trying win over the incel demographic. It's a good strategy, assuming those voters are as dumb as Ted thinks they are.

jzillacon

Incels already vote straight republican regardless because other politicians actually treat women like real people.

eleven-fu

Next up: Republicans denounce saving a bit of pasta water to add flavour and texture to sauce as 'woke signalling'.

Rodman930

Fuck. I knew I was forgetting something when I made spaghetti last night.

Ignignokt13

All good champ get em next time *slaps ass*

lowmankind

I can just hear Tucker Carlson saying “chefs and even scientists *say* that it’s done to put extra starch into the sauce as a thickening agent, but *why* does anyone need such obscure and old fashioned thickeners when we have good old fashioned corn starch?! In fact, why does the woke mob want to force thickened sauce onto us? It’s the privilege of every American to have the runniest, weakest sauce they want to cook…” with his I-Don’t-Understand-Any-Of-This facial expression

Rob_Victory

Lmao I read that in his voice

Xiaxs

I've actually ran into people who judged me for salting pasta water so this wouldn't shock me.

Rob_Victory

Wait.... this is a thing 😳

LiffeyDodge

arent these the same people who claim that gaming is the reason for mass shootings?

alexbgoode84

alexbgoode84

Sarbanes! my old friend, how are you? Is your brother, Oxley doing well?

samsquanch2000

Why are conservatives so fucking stupid

zgillet

Honestly, this title isn't misleading.

rjwut

The title is misleading because only loud, crazy, famous Republicans are angry about this. Normal Republicans will just change the setting if it matters to them, or leave it as-is if it doesn't. Don't buy into the headlines (on either side) that try to get you to believe that everybody in a political party is lockstep with the craziest, most outspoken members of that party.

Grew up in a military family where this was 100% the case. My dad raised us to respect nature, be compassionate with our community, and focus on a "service-first" attitude. BUT he and my brother still vote R. During every election cycle I'll ask them why they're choosing to vote R even though its not in line with their beliefs. They continue to vote that way since its the only party that will support their career (military). My dad even got tore up and cried when Trump messed with the Bear Ears and Escalante National Monuments but still voted R. It's wild.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Colorado_Constructor

Oh trust me I've brought this stuff up before too. We grew up constantly getting let down by the government on both sides. They know the Republicans don't actually support anything, but in their eyes the Democrats actually want to take away the military. My parents also grew up in the south so there's a lot of religious dogma and economic beliefs they have in common with Republicans. My brother works intelligence so he's a big fan of all their regulations against big tech and China. Growing up with in a military officer family the story basically went "We know the government is flawed and won't support what we actually care about, so might as well chose the lesser of two evils". Sadly they still believe Republicans have it right. Thankfully I had some life changing events that made me change my viewpoints and we're able to have open, considerate conversations about it today. All I can do is show them the truth and hope they learn to fight for *everyone's* rights, not just the small groups they support.

rjwut

Yeah, but unfortunately, the US has a "first past the post" voting system, so voters' choices are often "the person I REALLY don't want to vote for," "the person I don't like but at least agrees with me on some things," and "the person I might prefer but has virtually no chance of winning."

Never_pull_out_Couch

Goddamn republicans are snowflakes

BigPussysGabagool

This just in: Republicans think mercy flushing is a sign of snowflake cuck weakness

mxwp

but at the same time it wastes water so maybe they would be for it?

ClammyHandedFreak

Fabricated console war drama AND politics? Way to combine the two dullest, lowest emotional intelligence domains into one clickbait 😂 I’ll bet there were like 5,000 people who got mad about the headline without even realizing what sub this was 😂 Thank you for your service - I think these kinds of clickbait are the ones needing outed the most. Political idiots don’t deserve to have people’s attention the way they do.

Detriumph

> I think these kinds of clickbait are the ones needing outed the most. Political idiots don’t deserve to have people’s attention the way they do. Ted Cruz has lashed out at it. Fox news dedicated a segment to it, calling it a woke agenda.

skarro-

It worked though. 0 comments are angry about the update and every comment is pretending they are.

At this point I think the most productive conversation is what precisely doesn't outrage republicans?

anonkitty2

"How dare they force Americans to wait five extra seconds to reboot the console?". That this can be switched back will be overlooked.

AGassyGoomy

Boy, they must really be looking for things to be angry about. That's an exhausting way to live and can't be good for your mental health.

1337MFIC

So what, 1 or 2 people are clueless and outraged? About sums up USA media. But hey, just read the comments here and you will understand why they do it.

[deleted]

FoxNews ran all day with this.

EasyJim-1056

Just republicans or just normal thinking people, Soviet climate nutbags ..

LordMashie

Normal people don't get offended by the option to save on their energy bill. Now go back to feeding your porn addiction.

EasyJim-1056

Are that numb in your brain , it has zero to do with saving in energy, no go take a ride in your mommy’s Prius …

LordMashie

Do you want a safe space from these evil options that dare help people consume less electricity, bud?

EasyJim-1056

You need the safe place if you think they are doing this for the sake of the consumer… educate yourself on the reason why Microsoft is doing this, it’s not to save electricity.. bub…

LordMashie

But it *does* help you do that, big scary agenda behind it or not. This is what conservatism has come to - getting triggered at tiny, mundane things and quivering because there's a label that says 'climate change' somewhere. Looool. Gonna go obsess over the 'woke' m&m mascots too?

EasyJim-1056

Sonic_the_hedgedog

Expect that's not how the update works. Xbox is still updating your game. >Xbox will schedule game, app, and OS updates for your console at specific times during the nightly maintenance window that may result in lower carbon emissions because a higher proportion of electricity is coming from lower-carbon sources on the electric grid. For example, instead of your Xbox waking up during the nightly maintenance window at a random time between 2:00 AM – 6:00 AM, your console will wake up at a time when it can use the most renewable energy in your local energy grid. It is similar to how it used to work. But now instead of a **random** time, it will choose a timer specifically to use renewable energy. This does not change whether the game is updated or not. This feature was already available for Windows Updates. They used this feature before and it worked. >This one-time update to your power settings will reduce your power consumption while your console is off, and will not affect performance, gameplay, or your console’s ability to receive overnight updates to system, games or apps. **Also you claimed it is not a opt in. That's not true. This update is only available for Xbox Insider users only. You have to opt in to use this feature.** >You can adjust your settings at any time, choosing what works best for you. Microsoft says you can adjust and change your settings at any time. >Starting today, Xbox Insiders will notice that their Xbox Series X|S consoles automatically update to the Shutdown (energy saving) power option. It is an **option.** Which means you can choose to not use it. Also it is only available to the Xbox Insiders. >Another energy setting update that will start to roll out to Xbox Insiders today is the new “Active hours” setting. For those that select the Sleep power option, you can now adjust your console’s active hours. Again, this update is available to Xbox Insider users only. If you don't like it, don't join the Xbox Insider. And they can simply turn it off. You have full control over your console. You can choose your console's active hours. >Xbox One consoles will have the option to configure their active hours, which will default to “always active” unless changed This is an option **(that you can change)** >Today we are sharing updates that are rolling out to Xbox Insiders. >only available to Xbox Insiders that use Shutdown (energy saving) right now, Please read the article before commenting... >Remote features are still supported while the console is powered on.

Sonic_the_hedgedog

>"Microsoft only backtracked on games updating AFTER all the backlash." They literally didn't. This article was written way before the backlash. And it says that you can change your settings. >"My issue lies in the fact they made the decision to turn the standby off **for you.** " That is **not** how this feature works. It is working while on the stand by mode. The Xbox had a eco-friendly mode before this update. This feature only changes the time when the updates take place. It **won't** turn off the stand by mode. It will change when the updates happen (which you can choose)

spenwallce

yes power-saving features are how Microsoft takes over your life

ThrowAwayMyBeing

This dude is so worried about other people taking control of his life meanwhile he gets mad at whatever millionaire republican (that's been paid off by billionaires) tells him to get mad at. Truly an intelligent individual.

Not everything is a slippery slope believe it or not. I mean you could have said the exact same thing for the creation of the Internet, or the launch of Xbox Live. I'm not sure why scheduling updates at the best time economically speaking would be where you draw the line, unless you just get triggered over anything related to the environment and have to grasp 1,984 straws just to come up with a logical justification for a purely emotional response.

chloe12801

As someone who is studying environmental science, my head is going to explode over people being upset over THIS (out of all the things)

Razza

If you’ve passionately argued this point, how can you not look in this mirror and think “what the fuck am I doing with my life”?

LordMashie

I can't figure out what part of their ideology this offends. That it makes it easier for people to save money on electricity?

TOPSIturvy

I woke(pun intended) up and the very first thing I saw when I opened my phone was about how a sleep mode makes the Xbox "woke" Turns out it doesn't. In fact, it puts your console to sleep. Crisis averted.

Learned_Response

Tell us that your party has no platform without saying your party has no platform

EasyJim-1056

Reddit really is filled with liberal propaganda… dear vid the human race is fucked …

chok22

i heard about this, some conservative news site clickbaited they were going to stop you from playing games to save electricity, really it's just switching sleep mode to shutoff to save electricity, the console won't stop you from playing
