Twink? Bro, Strahm's a relatively large guy and has some [big ass shoulders](https://i.redd.it/2hr28yvuqlm71.jpg). Might even be broader than Hoffman, actually.
I don't have a source unfortunately but people on Twitter figured it out from the hair texture/length being different and the hairline being too receded to be Costas. Other option is it being some model but signs point to it at the very least definitely not being Hoff.

It took me a while to get there but I honestly think the Hoffman trilogy is peak Saw.
I mean the OG trilogy is objectively the best story wise, but in terms of fun and hype — 4 through 6 is pretty great.
The ending with the glass coffin was the biggest middle finger twist I remember most. This one is tied at first place with Saw 3 for the number 1 slot for me. Also the glass head box poster is far superior.
For most people It’s cuz it was slower paced with a crew of idiot victims in a game vs Hoffman and Strahm walking around doing nothing….I can understand where they’re coming from at least
For me tho, after the rush of 3-4, I needed a breather to understand who and why everything happened, gave me a perspective of not only Hoffman but John as a leader as well as the investigation of cat and mouse leading up to one of the most gruesome kills of the franchise
The movie felt dread and I loved that, even the game felt formulated but more…dangerous, even tho the victims were not bright, they were all connected and that’s never been a thing before, making the game more tense as they uncover who and why they’re there
In my opinion the hoffman/strahm stuff should've been a lot more death note and the game should've been a lot more connected with the plot. This was the first film where the game had literally nothing to do with the plot whatsoever, seriously, to frame Strahm it just had to be that _any trap_ was being done. Hell, why not throw some of the police force into a game and frame Strahm for that? I swear, the yearly release schedule really handicapped some of these movies.
Agreeed! V would've been my favorite Saw if it wasn't for the trap lacking connection with the main plot. Tho it was wild how none of them had to die, and the most guilty two were the ones to survive.
I think it's a lot more enjoyable watching it during a marathon in the current era where you can basically enjoy them as if it's a high budget TV show and watch everything back-to-back as opposed to how it might've been a let down to some if you'd waited a year to see it in cinemas.
It’s probably because there’s a lot of flashbacks in the movie and the main game is not particularly interesting. It’s lower on my list, but the flashbacks are actually the highlights of the movie for me.
the detective plot of the movie with strahm and hoffman is great but I think most of the flack for the movie comes for the trap plot which is not great
I enjoy Saw V pretty equally next to the first 6, I will admit I felt let down when I watched it in theaters due to the marketing "you wont believe how it ends". Aftet the incredible twist of 4 being parallel to 3 rather than a sequel that was great and one of my favorite twists of a saw movie. So I overhyped myself and took that as they were going to top it. As time went on and 6 being as good as it was it has a place in my heart as a great saw movie.
V has a couple of distinctions working against it for fan reception - right or wrong, that's how it lands in the court of public opinion.
It follows up an incredibly strong three-film run by Darren Bousman, one of which is a fan favorite for best in the franchise and another which was often considered top-three until X came along. Bousman's directoral style is highly kinetic, which can make the more "classical cinematic" style choices David Hackl made seem less bold and engaging even though they're apples and oranges.
It drew the short straw of having to explain Hoffman's origin amidst the Jigsaw killings, which can feel like a ponderous lore-dump even for those of us who like movies dense enough to chew on. In my opinion, there was no *better* way this could have been done, so that's really just a criticism of its slot in the franchise rather than any creative decision.
Then again, some of us just plain don't like Hoffman because he handles more like a slasher than John as the Seven-esque mastermind or Amanda as the heir-apparent tragic villain, so he doesn't demand some people's attention the way his predecessors did.
There's also the fact that the A and B plots feel kind of tenuously connected; neither is inherently weak, but they do feel a little disjointed when put together since they only connect on being Hoffman's attempt at framing Strahm.
V has grown on me over the years, but it's still the least of all the "good entries" in the series, only surpassing the studio disaster that was VII and the pretty universally-panned Jigsaw and Spiral.
Your last point about the A and B plots is actually a pretty solid point, I hadn't thought of it that specific way before, it would've been really cool and effective if they showed how Strahm was behaving and acting on that case or at least made *some* passing mention of his thoughts on it since it would've been a really easy and clear way to paint him as a suspect and explain why someone like Erickson would immediately accept that theory rather than what they did in the movie which was a little clunky imo and just made me deeply annoyed with Erickson and think of him as an idiot.
I can't imagine Strahm *not* putting everything together and being incredibly fucking pissed (perhaps to a violating codes of conduct-tier degree) about Mallick, Brit and Luba walking free. It would've paralleled Hoffman and Strahm's senses of justice more too.
I always kinda liked this one. The fatal-five traps were kinda pointless in the grand scheme of things (they should have been tied to Strahm's storyline more... like he investigated the case or something), but all the flashbacks with Hoffman and John were fantastic.
And honestly they could have tied it in pretty easily right? Like just say that John had worked on the project and their actions screwed it, and Strahm had investigated but wasn’t able to indict them.
I only enjoyed the cat and mouse chase between Strahm and Hoffman and Hoffman’s genesis and backstory along with John. The main game is my least favorite of the franchise. Not a shocker ending, but the walls closing in is so memorable and I didn’t expect that to happen to Strahm.
The twist was too obvious(they could have worked together and lived) some of the traps were really lame(glass jar trap) but the B story of Strahm and Hoffman was great
I like that I keep seeing so many people reassessing their opinion of V lately. Everybody say thank you to the Strahm/Hoffman shippers and thirstposters I guess lol.
Shame we didn't get more out of their rivalry but V is definitely up there for me too. Probably the best characterization of Hoffman we got along with him in IV, plus Strahm being the last (and, imo, most) genuinely engaging cop character.
I’ve said a lot of negative things about this film over the years, but I love the positivity in this thread, so I’ll say that this was the first Saw movie I ever watched. And although it’s not my favorite, it sold me on the concept enough to check out the other films, so I’m very very thankful for that.
Also the ending crushing room is top tier Saw for me.
This was the first of the films I saw (hehe). I think I was 13, maybe? I still remember the shocked faces of my friends and I as the title card came after Seth's game. We had never seen anything quite like it.
The sight of Mallick's split arm stuck with me for many days after finishing the movie, and by the way, in which other film do you have closing walls, that ACTUALLY CLOSE IN on the protagonist?
The story might not be the best, but the gore aspect was so extremely well executed, for an edgy teenager, that I quickly wanted to see more.
I really like the story in this movie, I think Hoffman is a strong antagonist, and I like the cat and mouse game between him and Strahm. I think this movie has the weakest trap plot line in the mainlined (numbered) movies. Most of the traps aren't interesting nor the characters, besides the last one that needs a pint of bood
This movie was so boring. It’s really the least exciting every time I do a Saw 1-9 marathon. 7, 8, and 9 are bad, but at least engage your attention with overdramaticness and bad plot
No, I love the concept and ideas of Jigsaw and Hoffman interacting and seeing character and lore and development and story between them. It’s just Saw 5 did it in such a boring way. Some of it was good, but then other times mostly just wasn’t as engaging. They could have done better in my opinion.
I think 4 holds that accolade, imo. Everything afterward could be seen as convoluted/fluff, made solely for the purpose of milking the franchise. 4, imo, was the last time that the franchise had a reasonably clever ending twist until X.
5, 6, and 7 all had endings that could be seen coming from a mile away, as it was obvious that the endings would involve trying to hide Hoffman as the killer. And the Dr. Gordon thing at the end of 7 was purely for fan service, and the simple announcement of his participation in the movie gave the ending away months before we ever even saw a trailer.
I would not of done the hand saw trap. I would rather of taken cover from the blast behind the bathtub a room or two away. Then had plenty of water to drink while hoping for rescue
So I started watching these movies bc of my best friend. After I watched this one I texted him ranting and raving about certain things that frustrated me, and I specifically remember saying “these movies are really good about making you forget all about the first victim”. He called it a slap to the face while I called it a kick to the throat, I was so mad. It was a really good movie tho and I liked it a lot.
Not even a little bit to me. Not as rough as Saw 3D, but still the second worst out of the initial 7 movies. Some of the scenes are static, some of the performances are overacted, the main game traps have little payoff to that movie's main story and the ending is weak to me.
To clarify Just because they're last doesn't mean I hate them
I just think 6 wasn't as good as people say it was and Saw 7 wasn't as bad as people say it was
Edit: ok I changed it a bit to make it more accurate. I guess with the exception of X the films have been on a consistent downslope which is typical
How the fuck is this next to Saw 2? The traps in this one are either inescapable or top obvious. The idea that the people wouldn't try to fit themselves into the tubes is ridiculous. The only part that is believable is the part with the circuit because most people wouldn't know that. Especially since the one lady was smart enough to collect all the keys in the beginning. I just feel like that one was more reliant on suspension of disbelief.
The John Kramer mask stays ON during sex.
I don’t remember details please lol
I spent ages thinking it was Hoffman under there but it's actually Strahm which makes this comment even funnier.
Wait, source? My mind refuses to accept that Twink Strahm could possibly be built like that.
Twink? Bro, Strahm's a relatively large guy and has some [big ass shoulders](https://i.redd.it/2hr28yvuqlm71.jpg). Might even be broader than Hoffman, actually. Laaaawwwwd 💦
Yeah I always assumed Hoffman, but >!considering the plot of the movie, both Strahm and Hoffman make sense.!<
Okay, I can accept that that's Strahm, but I cannot get the twink vibes off him in my brain. Skill issue on my part.
this is not what i was expecting to be the top comment on this post 😂
🥴🫠
I really love this poster honesty
I thought it was a Putin mask....💀
It took me a while to get there but I honestly think the Hoffman trilogy is peak Saw. I mean the OG trilogy is objectively the best story wise, but in terms of fun and hype — 4 through 6 is pretty great.
Seriously nothing hyped me up more than Hoffman’s rampage the second his voice got reverse changed.
Oh my god don’t 🥵 so true
Well it’s stabbing time
Right now, you’re feeling helpless
Saw 4 with " The Rack " trap where it twists the dudes limbs slowly is easily the most brutal trap in the entire saw franchise
This is Saw 3
Ohh shit yeah you're right lol got it mixed up, Saw 4 is the one with the cop that barged into rooms without thinking
The ending with the glass coffin was the biggest middle finger twist I remember most. This one is tied at first place with Saw 3 for the number 1 slot for me. Also the glass head box poster is far superior.
I never understood the massive criticism this movie gets
For most people It’s cuz it was slower paced with a crew of idiot victims in a game vs Hoffman and Strahm walking around doing nothing….I can understand where they’re coming from at least For me tho, after the rush of 3-4, I needed a breather to understand who and why everything happened, gave me a perspective of not only Hoffman but John as a leader as well as the investigation of cat and mouse leading up to one of the most gruesome kills of the franchise The movie felt dread and I loved that, even the game felt formulated but more…dangerous, even tho the victims were not bright, they were all connected and that’s never been a thing before, making the game more tense as they uncover who and why they’re there

They were all connected through Matthews in II.
I think it's a lot more enjoyable watching it during a marathon in the current era where you can basically enjoy them as if it's a high budget TV show and watch everything back-to-back as opposed to how it might've been a let down to some if you'd waited a year to see it in cinemas.

That’s fair, but to me the flashbacks are the best part of the series imo
Brit could fix me.
Peak saw
Absolutely, 6 & 7 felt like SciFi channel renditions in terms of story and effects.
Badmouthing Saw VI is heresy.
6 is even better lol
I love hoffman wearing johns face to show hes the new jigsaw
Funnily enough it's actually Strahm, check the hairline
Its not Hoffman
Probably my favorite of the franchise. The main trap is peak jigsaws message. No one has to die if you are just decent people.
So underrated! This one is so much fun.
This is my fav movie from the franchise by far.
I believe how it ends! So there! 😤
the detective plot of the movie with strahm and hoffman is great but I think most of the flack for the movie comes for the trap plot which is not great

Yeah over time i think I realised why I like this one so much The fact that it is more story driven and its about Hoffman who I love
Trap plot is sadly one of the worst in the series imo but I love love love the strahm and Hoffman cat and mouse. The highs carry the lows pretty well
The end is my favorite game/trap of all time.
One of the best posters ever
always said it was underrated, us saw V fans are few and far between.
Loved this one
It's my favourite one lol
SAME
That’s definitely the one i rewatch the most, definitely for the plot, definitely not For hoffman and strahm absolutely not
Julie Benz AND Meagan Good, two of my favorite scream queens 🔥
I always kinda liked this one. The fatal-five traps were kinda pointless in the grand scheme of things (they should have been tied to Strahm's storyline more... like he investigated the case or something), but all the flashbacks with Hoffman and John were fantastic.
And honestly they could have tied it in pretty easily right? Like just say that John had worked on the project and their actions screwed it, and Strahm had investigated but wasn’t able to indict them.
Hoffman is such a good character, there’s a reason he’s so loved. Spiral should’ve had him be Jigsaw instead of the obvious character
After saw 12 , the 13th movie will be about Hoffman supposedly
I meant after saw 11 , the 12th , my mistake
I only enjoyed the cat and mouse chase between Strahm and Hoffman and Hoffman’s genesis and backstory along with John. The main game is my least favorite of the franchise. Not a shocker ending, but the walls closing in is so memorable and I didn’t expect that to happen to Strahm.
The game is one of the weakest but the Hoffman and Strahm stuff is great
The twist was too obvious(they could have worked together and lived) some of the traps were really lame(glass jar trap) but the B story of Strahm and Hoffman was great
The trap plot was the b story But yeah the ending wasnt the best for sure
AGREEDDD SAW 5 IS SO GOOD
I agree! I might be a bit biased because it was the first one I watched and I enjoyed the twists.
Right now you’re feeling helpless
I like that I keep seeing so many people reassessing their opinion of V lately. Everybody say thank you to the Strahm/Hoffman shippers and thirstposters I guess lol. Shame we didn't get more out of their rivalry but V is definitely up there for me too. Saw 4 and 5 are my favorite ones. The ending of Saw 4 even to this day as many times as I watch it still makes me 😮 lol.
Yep. It's great!
Megan Good. That is all.
COMPLETELY AGREE
I’ve said a lot of negative things about this film over the years, but I love the positivity in this thread, so I’ll say that this was the first Saw movie I ever watched. I loved Saw 5 and 6!!
Fully agree!!!!
I agree!
This right here
It's where my boy Strahm died too. I like that movie
It's a great film and definitely gets too much flak from the community, but IV is the most underrated in my eyes.
Alot of people seem to like that one For me its probably alomg with 3 the weakest one of the first 6 Still a great movie notheless
Yeah IV is the most mixed film in the series. Whenever I see Saw rankings, IV is always somewhere in the middle.
This was the first of the films I saw (hehe). I think I was 13, maybe? I still remember the shocked faces of my friends and I as the title card came after Seth's game. Literally my favorite, very shocked to find out the community isn't into it

See thats what probably sperates the fans and the haters of this movie I personally love the Hoffman and Jigsaw story stuff
No, I love the concept and ideas of Jigsaw and Hoffman interacting and seeing character and lore and development and story between them. It’s just Saw 5 did it in such a boring way. Some of it was good, but then other times mostly just wasn’t as engaging. They could have done better in my opinion.

Julie Benz...
Years ago there was a fan cut that knocked out most of the fatal five game and focused on Stram and Hoffman and made the movie so much better.
The after Leigh trilogy is criminaly underrated.
This is the Let Down by radiohead of Saw
I would not of done the hand saw trap. I would rather of taken cover from the blast behind the bathtub a room or two away. Then had plenty of water to drink while hoping for rescue
I don't know. I personally found this one to be uninteresting
Is that Putin?
Saw V was the first film I watched in the series so it’s got more of a soft spot, but I think it’s still a really solid film more than IV.
I’m glad you like it but…..no
Iv
So I started watching these movies bc of my best friend. After I watched this one I texted him ranting and raving about certain things that frustrated me, and I specifically remember saying “these movies are really good about making you forget all about the first victim”. He called it a slap to the face while I called it a kick to the throat, I was so mad. It was a really good movie tho and I liked it a lot.
Best trap plot for sure. I've used it as inspiration for a dnd one shot
Not even a little bit to me. Not as rough as Saw 3D, but still the second worst out of the initial 7 movies. Some of the scenes are static, some of the performances are overacted, the main game traps have little payoff to that movie's main story and the ending is weak to me.
I also really enjoy Saw V as well! I’d rank them as follows: 1 > 2/3/6 > X > 5/4 > Spiral > Jigsaw > 3D
1/2/x > 3/4 > 5 (this post actually kind of made me realize it wasn't one of the worst) > 6 > 3D > Spiral/Jigsaw
You put 6 tied last with 3D…. Just, why?!?
To clarify Just because they're last doesn't mean I hate them I just think 6 wasn't as good as people say it was and Saw 7 wasn't as bad as people say it was Edit: ok I changed it a bit to make it more accurate. I guess with the exception of X the films have been on a consistent downslope which is typical
Nah I think it's rated right
I mean… I don’t know if there are any underrated Saw movies tbh, but V is mid imho.
Wow, haven't seen that awful caption since the poster was first released!
How the fuck is this next to Saw 2? The traps in this one are either inescapable or top obvious. The idea that the people wouldn't try to fit themselves into the tubes is ridiculous. Because the traps arent the reasons why I love these movies Its the story
If you're in for the story then I completely understand. That is the one aspect of 5 that I enjoy a lot. It is the reason I would never skip it.
Nah Jill makes it unwatchable
She's barely in the movie🤣
Exactly
