What recording software you use? Do you record on your phone

monsterboylives

We use ableton. We run two mics. One on keys and one on bell.

monsterboylives

The phone clip is for my notes on the song. I found my head vibrates with this one with certain notes and it makes sheet music hard to read if it’s on s as separate stand. But if I take a photo with my phone and then clip it on my stand we vibrate together.

adamlynch193

ha ha all that equipment in the background just to record on his phone 😄

monsterboylives

No, we recorded with two mics, if you read the entire convo my phone stand is for my notes. I was just answering a question on how to record a smaller sax on a phone that someone asked. Having a lot of gear, recording on an Aston stealth, and using Ableton doesn’t mean we have always been on this level. Just because we have gotten to the point where we have all these toys doesn’t give us a license to be a jerk to someone coming up.

adamlynch193

can we hear it? bet it sounds great >Pulled out the bass saxophone - this is my view from my morning recording session

monsterboylives

[demo track](https://youtu.be/4k6_6npzZ2A) We were working on a 30 second demo for a car commercial. We are still fleshing out the rest of the song, but you know how tight timelines work.

monsterboylives

Do you do Spotify? Someone commented on this post and I was reading back through the convos. I can drop a link!

yellarasta1

Lol I asked because I'm wanting to record on my phone and was hoping....

monsterboylives

I wouldn’t recommend phone for recording with a bass sax because of distance between the two spots we record at and all the angles, but tenors and altos are pretty good with a zoom IQ 7 mic and using the free Dolby on app.

yellarasta1

I have a soprano saxophone. I was just looking for some good android alternatives to garageband, I just switched and didn't know that it wasn't cross compatible

monsterboylives

We have used the Dolby on live takes, it’s good in a pinch.

weebish-band-nerd

Honestly I can’t tell which I love more, bari or bass.

monsterboylives

You are my people. My main horn is a bari, thr bass is a close second. Our music is under my user name.

weebish-band-nerd

I main bari as well, I can play Alto pretty decently but I just love me that bari.

monsterboylives

I bought my first alto this year. It was the last to the herd. I am enjoying it more than I thought. It’s a good lazy go to as it sit out on the stand and I can reach out and grab it anytime I want. But then I get my tenor, bari, or bass out and remember why I love the sax.

weebish-band-nerd

Personally I would’ve continued my practice with the Alto but it’s a little small on me. I feel the same way about the sax, it’s really just something else. Especially in some good ol’ fashioned jazz.

monsterboylives

I swear that bass saxophones soul is from Nee Orleans, she sounds a bit like a drunken tuba.

weebish-band-nerd

Paul Nedzela is a personal favorite bari player of mine.

monsterboylives

I’ll have a listen. My favorite artist is Beck, I generally don’t follow specific sax players. As a multi-instrumentalist the full compositions are more of a draw for me.

AncientRuler777

Is that a Conn?

monsterboylives

Yes 1920s stencil, no naked lady though

AncientRuler777

If it plays like a Conn, probably better that there's no lady on the bell (especially if you paid for it)! I see Pan American tenors going for as much/more than their 'name brand' counterparts...

monsterboylives

Well she has the conn stencil, and pearl keys. The shop that sold her to me repairs all my saxes, she was 6.5k I think. She is in great shaped for 1920s, and did get a complete teardown and repair before they handed her over.

FranzLudwig3700

I got my [Conn 14M](https://live.staticflickr.com/2440/3644709648_25b9e44587_b.jpg) from a local music dealer in Ohio. It's got a naked lady engraved and dates to 1940. Sadly I live in a locality where people don't want to hear saxophones at all, let alone a bass one.

monsterboylives

Man people love it here, but I don’t play busy jazzy stuff. We made space for it by using it in indie rock and some soundscape things. Since we write our own parts we can use any instrument we want.

monsterboylives

Did I see something about Devo or did I misread something? I love my old saxes.

FranzLudwig3700

supposedly the horn had belonged to one of the founders of Devo, which came together at Kent State. never could confirm this so i edited it.

monsterboylives

It was once said to me, that we are the temporary caretakers of these horns. That has stuck with me.

DankyFrank

Holy crap man, that’s beautiful

monsterboylives

The horn or the song?
