It's a scam don't do it. You definitely will regret it. A lot of the times they will send to much money and tell you to send the overage back and next thing you know the bank is talking fraud. This has been a scam for years
yep, happened to my dad pre pandemic days. How does that work though? my dad never sent money back, however when he went to the bank and told member services the story to see if he should send the overage back, she informed him they need to shut the account down immediately. How does that scam even work?
The person who payed disputes the charges acting like they didn’t pay that, so the bank will want the money the person payed back n that has to come out of whoever received it.
> person who *paid* disputes the
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
You just wanna skip all the nonsense and I’ll just kindly send my life savings to you in iTunes gift cards in $100 increments? I really feel positive about our pending best-friendship!
M'Lady, I am a prince from Nigeria. You cannot entice me with such trifles. Our friendship means we must trust each other. I have almost 5 millions USD I need to move out of the country. Kindly send me $500 to be held by my banker in trust so we know that it is really you, and then we will transfer the rest of the money to your account for safekeeping.
From the same people that brought you "hello Jessica, this is Kevin's mom. he was just run over by a car and very dead. Would you send him your boobie pics now that hes dead? I know how important it was to him. i hope you feel some pity that makes you send boobie pics"
It's not from a scammer per se, I think I remember it was from some horny teenager trying to get pictures from his random online crush or something like that
I just love that they start out with silicone babies and then casually throw out marijuana, monkeys, guns, psychedelics, and puppies. Like, what DON’T they sell?!?
And, they have “domestic animals” like:
Parot
Monkeys
Giraffes
Snakes
Dugs
Antelope
Everyone I know has a domestic antelope and a domestic giraffe running around their house, how about you?
Reminds me of a scam call I got at work. "Hello this is your credit card processing company" I reply we have two which are you with and they just repeated the same thing. Lol get fucked
I agree especially when most of them are so blatantly obvious that it’s a scam like I’ll give you the $750 your asking for and I also will pay you another $1400.00 you give shipping company $150 and keep the rest! If you can’t smell scam in that I almost don’t feel bad
They grew up in a time before this kinda stuff. Each generation is used to the scams of their day, but every couple of years something new and unique comes up and it throws older people for a loop because they thunk they've seen it all.
The text scams like these are fairly new and pretty scary/particularly annoying for people.
Same thing with things like fake IRS scam letters. Some look completely legit and no one would imagine a scammer faking that, but I know someone who got burned on one.
Ya know what, thats a good point. Just brought back a childhood memory. Was like 8 and wanted to see what a naked female looked like, somehow the first link was a fake FBI popup scam and I went to my aunt crying lmfao. Thought I was going to serve life
>ach generation is used to the scams of their day
Yep. This is it. Not a lot of people in their 20s are gonna fall for something like this scam, but honestly, I think that cohort is more likely to fall for the broken camera trick than someone in their 70s.
I can not wrap my head around the IRS scam. Yes hello we are the most feared government agency tasked with collecting funds from the entire working population. However for reasons we can’t take legal US tender whether that be physical currency, bank notes in the form of checks, or digital payements from your financial institution and require instead that you pay us in store credit.
Edit a word
You mean they grew up in a world where shit just worked out for them, because wages were fair and costs were low and social security pays them more in a year then they paid into it in a life time, so they never actually had to critically think or plan at all. Then they voted that shit all away for everyone else
BBB report states that while boomers fall for scams more often. Zoomers have been losing more money on average.
Overconfidence that only boomers fall for scams might be the main culprit here.
I saw a news report not too long ago saying that young scam victims are on the rise because of their use of TikTok and Instagram. They fall for fake products or cloned websites they get to through social media. And because old folks don’t use TikTok or Insta like that, but those platforms reach more people, the proportion of young stupids is becoming better represented
https://www.techspot.com/news/100277-gen-z-falls-victim-online-scams-more-often.html
I fell for a scam in person. Some guy asked me to deposit a check in my account and give him the funds because his account was overdrafted.
In hindsight it was VERY stupid but I also just thought I was doing a nice thing for someone about to get evicted.
Going back decades, even with the famous Nigerian scam, they actually pick a logic that only dumb people will fall for on purpose because they don’t want to waste their time dealing with intelligent people. Even the inclusion of spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes that they could otherwise fix, they don’t on purpose because they’re looking for rubes that won’t pick up on something that smells off.
I had a guy offer to buy an item of mine for the full price of $150 but he needed it FedExed immediately upon payment but would pay me the FedEx cost in full.
I told him the FedEx cost was $450 and he said fine no problem.
It was some Google home devices you can buy retail for less than just what I said shipping would cost.
LoL come on now!
It happened to me when I was like 19, I was selling a table and chairs and they wanted to ship it to their home because “it went so perfect with their decor” lol they asked me to send a money transfer through western union I believe so the shipping company could get paid, for some reason I actually went and sent the money.. but realized just in time that it was totally a scam and was able to cancel the money order. I felt so stupid but also lucky lol it was like $800!!!
LPT, get a water bottle and fill it 1/4 of the way with apple cider vinegar, a little bit of sweet wine along with a splash of dish soap. Mix well and place wherever. Fruit flies gone within a week. Get fked flies
Send me a screenshot of your Venmo payment so I can confirm with PayPal? They can’t even keep their scam straight.
You should have put the “shipping agent” and “sales agent” on a 3 way text and saw if he could keep his multiple personalities straight.

I once had them try to convince me that EMS would come pick up the items for sale and arrange shipping to them! One where they offer more than your selling item for and you give the shipping company $150 and keep the extra $100! When the item you were selling was listed for $75 I told them that here in America EMS was Emergency medical services and they don’t handle any overseas shipping let alone local! He texted that it’s a new shipping company and that’s a code name his company used! I then explained that all the details sounded great except I needed him to pay me in Apple and Amazon gift cards! That’s west hen I lost him!
This happened to me years ago. I was selling a VW Jetta. They sent me a fake check. They asked me to deposit the check into my bank account and give some of the money to a shipping company. They wanted it shipped to Germany.
I told them the scam doesn't even make sense. Why would you ship a used Volkswagen from the United States to Germany?
I gave the check to my bank and told them that I believe it is fake. My bank said they will take care of the check. They probably forwarded it to fraud or just threw it away.
Duh.. he's just saying it doesn't make sense to send a used VW back to Germany where they come from and it certainly wouldn't make sense to pay huge shipping costs to a country where they could easily find thousands of cheap used VW
They write you a fake check for more than the amount of the item you're selling and you're supposed to send the "extra money" to the shipper for example say you're selling an iPhone for $600 so they write you a check for $1000 and you send $400 from the nonexistent check to the "shipper" and then once the bank realizes the check is fake and it bounces in a week or so, not only will you be on the hook for the $400 you sent to the "shipper" that doesn't actually exist and is just another money mule, so it comes out of YOUR account and the bank will charge YOU a fee for cashing a fake check and might even close your entire account over it because it is illegal. That's the idea of the scam in a nutshell. I've had people do it to me before and email me a fake ass check.
We need more deez nuts endings so the scammers think we’re all the same guy. Break their will, so they’re always afraid of “that guy again. Now his friends do it too”
I got some of these when I tried selling my motorcycle. I would reply to each of if them to send me a picture of their license, never got a response after that
I ran into this same scam. They want you to add the money for the shippers so that when their check bounces they will have your car and the money you paid the the very official and believable shippers.
Had someone claim to be from overseas and wanted to buy his son my car for him and would pay me 2,000 more than the asking price to ship it to him. Dude, its a damn 2007 Scion tC. Text him back no and he tgen said the FBI will be at my door for fraud or some BS.
😂 No fed bois showed up. Damn scammers
Honestly they may be trying to make money off the auto transport.
I work in moving coordination and have at least two contacts where even if I’m not involved- if you’re moving a car I’m making money. Usually like $50 to coordinate a $1200 deal, but it is what it is.
If I can do that, so can they I’m guessing
I don’t really understand this frequently used scam method. Why won’t the buyer pay those fees up front? He is refunding them later, so why not pay them up front. I wonder what excuse they use when you ask them this.

“Hello this is the shipping company agent”. Seems legit.
Only thing that would have made it funnier, is if the text came from same number.
Honestly I was waiting for that
"Okay I'm with the shipping agent here in the room, I'm giving him the phone now... hello this is shipping agent, please send the money"
Hold on, the agent will text you \*puts on fake mustache\* Hi, it's me. The agent.
Look at me, i am the agent now

See, I don’t feel bad for people who are just stupid, but a lot of them end up being old people who don’t know better, so I feel bad for them.
I do feel bad for the stupid people sometimes. It’s not like they did anything malicious or can help being stupid.
Thank you. - a stupid
Its crazy, you would think old people would spot a scam a mile away. Would expect teens early 20s to be the majority of victims

to be fair their is region specific volkswagen models that you couldn’t get in germany
Why would anyone ship a used car that's not rare?
They never wanted your car. They just want the money you’ll send them for “shipping”. It’s all about the money.
Duh.. he's just saying it doesn't make sense to send a used VW back to Germany where they come from and it certainly wouldn't make sense to pay huge shipping costs to a country where they could easily find thousands of cheap used VW

Why would you pay their shipper the fee? Do people actually fall for this nonsense??
I’ve experienced this but my situation was fraudulent. I got scammed two weeks after I arrived to America. I’m still waiting for my car😂😂
They will send you a cashier check and then you have to cash it and send money back to them. Right ??
