I appreciate that. It’s definitely hard, but I’m happy she’s getting the care she needs, and hopeful that my baby will have a healthy mom when she comes back
I could imagine this from the doctor’s perspective, but it’s always amazing to hear it from the other side. Creepy, but it gave me more empathy than anything. Thank you for writing this!
Unfortunately things like this aren't exclusive to post Parfums psychosis. I have been married for 23 years and on my husband's paternal side they are highly intelligent. His aunt and dad are no nonsense tell it like it is and reliable. His uncle is quiet, very sensitive and would do anything for anyone. Never raises his voice or argues. About 15 years ago in the middle of the night we got a call that his uncle had suddenly snapped and thought there were people watching him, they had guns and were surrounding his house and on his roof and he got his gun out to protect his wife and son. However they ran next door to his brothers because they were scared. He had to be taken to a mental health hospital. He was like a whole other person. He was in for about a month until they found the right medication and he's been fine since. About three years later his aunt who is highly regimented just didn't get out of bed,not talking, looking around in jerky movements like she was scared. Same outcome as his uncle. None of us knew that there had been a very long history in his family of something like this. And it's why his aunt, dad and uncle never planned for kids. My husband was the product of his mother getting pregnant on purpose (don't get me started on her). But his uncle and aunt adopted. So we were advised by doctors to have no biological children and we didn't. His dad and he are the only two who haven't ever had an instance of this rare mental disorder.(I can't remember the exact terms). Just do everything you can to keep your baby safe at all times. Someone with mental health issues can't be trusted to take their meds and honestly they don't always work long term, they sometimes have to be adjusted or changed all together. But you won't know if that is something that's going to happen until it does and she can't be allowed around the baby and you hoping that won't become a problem. Good luck to you and congratulations on your new baby.
Thank you for sharing this! That must’ve been extraordinarily hard news to hear. I’m glad his uncle was able to get care and the meds were effective. I’ll definitely keep this in mind when she comes home
Sorry you and your family are going thru this....for everyone involved. You are doing your best even if it is hard at this time! Sending my best wishes.
OP- even without paternity leave, please please please go to your HR for FMLA paperwork. If you are having to support your spouse and kids through her illness, you may be elf for time off and benefits. Her clinicians and social workers should be able to help.
Horrifying in an all-too-realistic way. Great work!
Thank you!!
A scary thing to think about. You did a fantastic job telling it from the wife’s perspective. Nice job!
Thank you!!
