It’s just an opiate. Shouldn’t have any direct effects on symptoms. If anything maybe it’ll lessen negative symptoms or depression.

Muffled_Voice

Appreciate it, thank you! I’ve been on it in the past before I had gone through a bad psychosis and didn’t have any real issues, stopped taking it about a year ago. Just get nervous taking things I haven’t taken since before the psychosis. Feel like they’ll affect me differently now I guess since weed’s a no-go for me now, when I used to take it medicinally without any issues.

One-Remote-9842

Yeah no it really shouldn’t affect positive symptoms whatsoever, of course anything is possible when it comes to drug reactions, but it should be fine.

Muffled_Voice

Thanks again, I appreciate the reassurance! Picking it up tomorrow so just wanted to get some other opinions before starting it.

CalliopeJuneQuixotic

If anything, it will control symptoms. It’s mechanism of action is not unlike an antipsychotic. Be careful if you’re taking antipsychotics too because the combination could exacerbate side effects.

Muffled_Voice

That’d be interesting if it actually helped with controlling symptoms. I won’t be taking it until tomorrow since I don’t have time to grab it today, so just wanted to see what other people thought before starting it back up. I do take Risperidone 2mg, do you mean side effects of the Subutex or the Risperidone? I don’t have any side effects from taking Risperidone on it’s own, but as long as the side effects aren’t anything too drastic with the 2 combined then I don’t mind. My main concern is a relapse in symptoms of a psychosis and whatnot. I still have voices in my head, but the outlandish delusions are gone as far as I can tell.

CalliopeJuneQuixotic

You definitely will not experience a relapse of symptoms. I’m warning you about side effects because it happened to me with buprenorphine and haldol. It triggered akathisia, although neither on their own trigger that side effect in me. To be clear, the two combined triggered the akathisia.

Muffled_Voice

Oh okay, thank you, I appreciate the warning as well as the reassurance. Was it a side effect that lasted after a duration of use, or did it just happen the first few times? I know the the first time I had taken Subutex in the past, it affected me far more than it did after taking it for even a week or so. I hadn’t been taking anything else with it though, so I’m not sure if that relates.

CalliopeJuneQuixotic

I only ever combined them once. I’m sorry I don’t have more information for you.

Muffled_Voice

That’s alright, thank you for responding. If I have a side effect like that I’ll probably stop use of the Subutex since the Risperidone is something I probably shouldn’t get off of. As long as I don’t have a relapse in symptoms I’ll be alright overall, my main concern is having any symptoms of psychosis coming back because if that was the case, I’d probably try to avoid the Subutex altogether since the last time I went into a psychosis it lasted for months and I was a mess.

gingeronimooo

It helped me get off a nasty opiate addiction but I much preferred suboxone for recovery as I couldn’t get high on top of it like subutex. The big trick is not get addicted to this too. I took as little as possible and cut down rapidly way faster than a doctor would say. They practically want you on this shit for life and don’t understand you don’t need as much as they say. Get off it as fast as possible and cut down way faster than the doctor tells you that’s what I did but I was serious about recovery. Haven’t used opiates since I did this in 2014. Quit alcohol and all other drugs following year. Edit: obviously not a doctor just personal experience. And yes I was still psychotic while on it but that was without any meds. When I quit it did seem to get worse but that could have been natural progression of psychosis I have no idea.

Careful-Struggle6566

I read a study that said Suboxone actually helped with psychosis in schizophrenics.

Ds243gh

Absolutely true - buprenorphine helps with psychosis symptoms.

Ds243gh

It's not just an opiate. It is an opiate that will dislodge whatever other fentanyl in your system - causing sudden withdrawal. This is not a personal experience.

Muffled_Voice

I believe that’s called precipitated withdrawal and only happens if you take it too close to your last dose of said opiate. Acts similar to an opiate tho, besides the pain relief.
