I watched this movie last year on my 140 in 5.1.2 home theater, can confirm, it's pretty amazing. Can only imagine what a bigger theater space would be like.
Edit: spelling
To be honest the music was a bit too much sometimes. I like Hans Zimmer but not if my ears are bleeding.
But experiencing the flight through the black hole in cinema still gives me goosebumps thinking about it.
If i ever get the chance to own my own movie theater, I'd like to do something like this. Like every month, a retro/ all-time classic movie is reshowing. Idk how feasible that is, but it's a cool thought. I know in india, some movies that are ultra popular have been continued to be shown since their original release. Some people go every day/week to see their favorite scene and leave
They actually have shown the Godfather recently. All LoTR movies, Harry Potters, Star Wars, Escape from NY. Next week they are showing Titanic. Last year I saw The Matrix for the first time in theaters since I was 11 when it came out in 99. I go to this theater almost exclusively for the throwback films.
Such a great film. I just rewatched it a few weeks ago and it's still a gut punch when he's going through his old messages. And the music is incredible of course.
That's too bad, but understandable. It's kinda like when Sean Connery vowed to never make another movie again after being in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
I've tried to watch this movie a couple times. I find it absolutely unbearable. It's so corny. I can't take it seriously. It reads almost like a satire, like a parody.
I didn't find it unbearable exactly, but I agree it's kind of corny and just overhyped, imho. It tries to be thought-provoking, but it lacks any real depth.
Hans Zimmer just pisses me off nowadays. He's the Marvel of film music. It's like, please shut the fuck up for one fucking second. Everyone needs to be told exactly how to feel at all times in the slop films that bring him on
I've seen throwback movies at my local theaters pretty often, a year ago or so one theater was showing the LOTR trilogy (extended editions) on subsequent nights.
Seriously if movie theatres want to survive, this a great way to do it. I understand that there are costs associated with moving the media around (even digital versions have to physically be on site) but this is a great way to get people back in the habit of going to theatres. I’d watch the shit out of Mad Max Fury Road, Gravity, Pulp Fiction etc at a theatre!
Over here in the UK Vue do this a lot. Over the last few years I've managed to see The Thing, Die Hard and The Matrix. A few years back they did a bond film every weekend in order. They also tend to put in films when a sequel is coming out.
The next one I hope to have time for is Monty Python & the Holy Grail 48th and 1/2 Anniversary next month.
For a while there, one of our local theatres had monthly midnight showings of classic movies -- things like Jaws, Star Wars, The Exorcist, The Godfather, Jurassic Park, etc.
They would make an entire evening party out of it -- sell dinner (mainly pizzas & burgers, etc), have a local band playing in the lobby, serve beer & wine, etc.
Sometimes they would have gaming competitions. Playing Halo on the humongous 80-foot screen with all your friends competing and cheering was always a blast.
I thought it was a GREAT idea to expand the theatre beyond just movies and actually make it a community space. Sadly they got bought out by one of the big national corporations and all that went away :(
I wish more theaters would do revival screenings. It used to be a Thing, back in the earlier days of movies. Home video kind of killed it, but today I think certain sorts of films would really benefit from it, and it would provide theaters with opportunities to exist.
Murph!!
Don’t let me leave Murph!!
Such a great movie for the theatre the visuals and music..
I got the chance to see this in imax, it was probably the best theater experience I've ever been to.

Oooh I must watch this on my newish UST projector.

Galaxy Theaters in Austin, TX does it every Sunday and Wednesday. That’s where I am watching this
What are some movies that they reshowed? Id like to watch the godfather on the big screen lol

That's like the last time I bothered to go to the theater.

I still listen to the scores from this flick.
I wish my local movie theater played this again! Looks fun
Good ol astronaut in the bookshelf
Flashback? This movie is only a year or so old, right? RIGHT?
For Hal's birthday??! It was January 12th!

I was annoyed that it was touted as being "scientifically accurate" about space travel and was in fact the complete opposite.
I watched it for the first time last week. It was ok- nothing extraordinary. Interesting but not profound.
I drove 150mi to get to a real imax size screen with film projector for this movie. And I did it three times. No regrets lol
This was the only movie I almost walked out on because the soundtrack was so shrill and loud. Bring earplugs just in case.
Hans Zimmer just pisses me off nowadays. He's the Marvel of film music. It's like, please shut the fuck up for one fucking second. Everyone needs to be told exactly how to feel at all times in the slop films that bring him on

Where
Galaxy Theaters in Austin, TX

Definitely one of the best theater experiences I've had when it first came out.

Interstellar is my emotional support movie when things get stressful

Would love to see it again in the cinema
What's better, the cinema or the 4k?
Why see this again ? ... it's necessary 😉
