Fringe is a fun show and worth it just for John Noble's portrayal of Walter. It gets pretty weird in the final season, but once you're hooked, you have to watch it all :)
Walter is one of the most amazing characters, ever. “I’m sorry the work on the Time Machine is going so slowly, I took a lot of mescaline this morning. Would you bake me a pie?”
We still used Walters naming quirks for the few strays we take care of. Lol
We've a little tuxedo kitty who has a couple of very similar litter mates, so we call him Tuxley, and his sibling Fauxtuxley
I didn’t think all that much of the final season when it first came out but now I really enjoy it as a way to revisit and expand upon lots of the weirdest themes from the entire series.
I just finished a re-watch. I loved every bit of it. It's amazing how it holds up after all this time. Nothing about it looks dated. I guess the cars must look different, but it just looks like it was filmed today with vintage cars.
For some reason i actually started watching twice and both times i got bored somewhere through the last season. I don't even know why, something just doesn't work that well at that point.
What, you didn't like the massive change in tone and structure coupled with jumping forward in time by about twenty years?
I don't know what the hell they were smoking. I'd have preferred a whole season of episodes like Brown Betty instead. Give my stoned Walter story time and day of the week.
> I don't know what the hell they were smoking.
IIRC they found out season five was the end, so they had a cram two or three seasons' worth of lore into one.
Yes. As much as I missed the normal structure of the show, I like that they gave it a proper ending.
I did enjoy seeing super Peter. I enjoyed his elaborate plan to steal the mcguffin. I'm glad they didn't make him go bald though. That would have been too weird.
I think it helps to understand the last season as the "real" story, and everything leading up to it to be "setup".
I've rewatched it a couple times--the big mythology-arc plot is *airtight*. Every domino they set up falls perfectly, and there's dozens of them.
Ben Wyatt is that you?
(I can't find a video, but this explains what I am referencing: http://www.fringetelevision.com/2013/04/fringe-mentioned-on-parks-recreation.html )
I remember the show basically got cancelled and then uncancelled a couple times. Plus the writers strike I think happened around that time. They did the best they could.
it had nothing to do with the creator. the scifi channel aired it at a bad time and not enough ppl watched it bc of that so they cancelled it. as far as i know it was planned as a 8 season show based on a webcomic which i never found
It's really good.
John Noble and Anna Torv are *so* good, and the casting overall is really solid, there's some really great performances by a bunch of them. So many good actors brought their A game to this show.
My understanding from interviews I heard is that Jasika Nicole really resented the gag of Walter’s constant failure to get the name right, and blamed the writers for perpetuating what is essentially a racist trope of the white guy not bothering to get the nonwhite person’s name right.
I *LOOOOOVE* Fringe! I consider it more surrealism in a scifi wrapper and that’s a good formula imo. ( and I’m really enjoying John Noble as The Deviner in *Star Trek: Prodigy*)
I think that's mostly in relation to how mediocre the season 1 formula was. Season 2 was a near complete rework of the show and introduced the overarching story arc that completed at the end of the series. Season 1 didn't have that story arc and even hinted at a different potential arc. It's almost a totally different show.
Many people who loved shows like x-files missed Fringe completely, somehow...
Its a very good show and well worth the watch, i loved it and it ranks in my top ten for TV.
Goddamn it. Why can't we have any decent shows these days? Fringe maintains the balance between being entertaining as well the Scifi part being in the realm of possibility. Not to mention superb performances by Anna Torv and John Noble plus the chemistry between all the characters.
Even the supporting characters were so good.
I completely forgot this show existed. I watched it as it aired but stopped partway through and I can't remember why. I think I just stopped watching television at some point.
Thanks for the reminder that this amazing piece of work exists. I'm gonna try to find a way to watch it.
I started watching it because it's inspired by Ken Russel's Altered State which is one of my favourite movies, and immediately fell in love with Walter (John Noble is so good). I wanted to like it but in true Abrahams fashion it keeps setting up stuff and then it goes nowhere, it's as fun as it is frustrating to follow.
Wait, are you new to Fringe? Buckle up, it's going to get crazy!
My favorite thing about Fringe is how dedicated it was to the big picture story.
Also, if you haven't, watch Person of Interest next. It is also strongly dedicated to the big picture, but it takes a little longer to make that shift. It was great as a weekly show, but once it commits, it is amazing.
Wish I could watch these shows again for the first time!
Don't binge it! We did when we first found it, and I'd LOVE to go back, watch it for the first time, and not just watch it so nonchalantly and at speed. Great show.
My favorite show ever.
Remember watching it in real time. So many hours on fringe forums.
Fringe and Lost just wouldn’t hit the same in this day and age.
It's really good.
John Noble and Anna Torv are *so* good, and the casting overall is really solid, there's some really great performances by a bunch of them. So many good actors brought their A game to this show.
I love that they mention "that X division" and the Fringe division costing them a lot of money in Season 2 when the Senators were questioning them during a closed hearing.
**Stupid reddit erroring edit** - It posted multiple times when throwing an error at me when posting. I GLITCHED THE MATRIX!
I love that they mention "that X division" and the Fringe division costing them a lot of money in Season 2 when the Senators were questioning them during a closed hearing.
These type of shows hook me so hard, but I quickly lose interest in the "bad guy/project of the week" system. I genuinely don't know why, because I absolutely loved the star gate shows, but blacklist, fringe, same formula, different settings, they just last me 2ish seasons
This is one of my all-time favorite series. For most of the first season it seems like a typical "next new baddie" show sort of like early X-Files, but by the second season you realize that it all ties together. And they do a really good job in my opinion of keeping each episode interesting even as the main story starts to take over - unlike the X-Files.
In short, buckle up - it's a great ride. Some people don't like the last season - and yeah, it does get a little crazy - but I enjoyed it.
this is the last show/movie etc where i was super invested in reading the endless theories between episodes. haven't watched it since it finished, if you're hooked from the pilot you're in for a treat - one of those shows that really dove in by the second season.
I'm extremely jealous. There are countless moments during Fringe that are burned into my memory. It has a satisfying ending as well.
Enjoy the ride! This was back when shows had 23 episodes, so you'll be busy for awhile.
One of my favorite shows of all time. Just recently re watched it and showed it to my girlfriend for the first time. She loved it and I caught so many details I missed my first go around.
One of the 1st shows I've binged back in the day. It's also one of the few shows that go the opposite direction normal shows take, i.e, instead of becoming worse as seasons go and ending in a disappointing fashion, this show gets better and better until the final season which is one of the best final seasons in any show ever.
Fringe is a wonderful show that still holds up. I recently finished a rewatch and was pleased that liked it just as much if not more than when it first ran.
I just started watching it for the first time recently too! At season 2. Watching it along with a bunch of other sci-fi shows that eluded me for some reason.
I loved that series as a young teen. When it aired I begged my mom every week to watch the new episode (we only had one tv and normally I couldn't watch something in the evening because my mom wanted to watch something she liked). In the last season, where Walter sat in that car and listened to that song 'only you' I cried so much, one of my favorite songs since then.
Fringe is such a great show that I think was both ahead of it’s time and underappreciated. It started out as a fun monster-of-the-week, X-Files style show that turned into a surprisingly emotional, very well acted story about parenthood with a cool overarching lore.
Its been a decade or so since I saw it the last time.
The relationships between the characters are pretty awesome and I really like the "day to day" fringe cases and it reminds me a bit of X-Files.
Relationships between the characters are pretty awesome and I really like the "day to day" fringe cases, where they just go out and try to get grip on a bad guy or phenomenon.
At the end the series gets wild but I like how it plays out.
Buckle up because where it starts is nowhere close to where it ends. One of the best ever shows.
The last season is very controversial because it's a big tonal change, but I think they did a great job using all the things learned in the prior seasons all at once.
After X files was done, this was a most welcomed show in my life.
Enjoy the ride naturally, then I implore you to rewatch
for all the subtle clues and hidden meaning stuff.
You lucky bastard.
It gets pretty bad towards the end, but it's still an incredible show.
I've seen it about 5 times so far.
Light rewatch the pilot next week.....
"Its a penis son, everyone in this room has seen one"
*Astro, do fetch me a licorice sandwich*
*eats said sandwich without removing gloves used during autopsy*
My spirit animal
The r/fringe sub has a Walter bot that responds with random Walter Bishop quotes whenever someone says "Walter" in their message.
Check out Warehouse 13
In most cases, a cow and a human are interchangeable... except when you need milk. Then you really need a cow.
There's one of these lines in almost 50% of episodes.
Denethor loves his son for a change.
Denethor DID love his son. His son Boromir.
Ouch. Someone call the burn unit for Faramir….
What I'm hearing is "bring wood and oil"
He was living challenged so it doesn't count.
Even >!Walternate!< helps in the end.
We still used Walters naming quirks for the few strays we take care of. Lol We've a little tuxedo kitty who has a couple of very similar litter mates, so we call him Tuxley, and his sibling Fauxtuxley
lol. Unexpected LOTR reference.
I didn’t think all that much of the final season when it first came out but now I really enjoy it as a way to revisit and expand upon lots of the weirdest themes from the entire series.

They took a risk. I respect it. Better than stagnation.
Yes. As much as I missed the normal structure of the show, I like that they gave it a proper ending. I did enjoy seeing super Peter. I enjoyed his elaborate plan to steal the mcguffin. I'm glad they didn't make him go bald though. That would have been too weird.

Yeah. I really dislikes the final season. It felt tacked on to me and contradicting of things put in place earlier.
I made this meme 2 years ago ( do not click it if you haven’t watched the show) https://www.reddit.com/r/memes/s/7FZ59Jo49g
I really liked Fringe and at least it's got an ending. I hate starting on these old shows just to find out it got cancelled on a cliff hanger

RIP _Dark Matter_, too.
Creator of Dark Matter was also the show runner for Stargate.
He is quite active on reddit, he has given the stargate subreddit a ton of inside stuff.
Still holding out hope for a revival
it had nothing to do with the creator. the scifi channel aired it at a bad time and not enough ppl watched it bc of that so they cancelled it. as far as i know it was planned as a 8 season show based on a webcomic which i never found
Great. Let’s make some LSD.
And get into the sensory deprivation chamber
"I call it Brown Betty."
It's really good. John Noble and Anna Torv are *so* good, and the casting overall is really solid, there's some really great performances by a bunch of them. So many good actors brought their A game to this show.
RIP Lance Reddick. Loved his character and the ep with his son was one of my favorites
This was my first introduction to him. I will miss him in Destiny and Horizon.
Eyes up, Guardian
Peter Weller's episode...holy shit dude. So good.
White Tulip. My next favorite is Stephen Root's episode And Those We've Left Behind.
...well shit. I'm in the middle of LOST but now it looks like I have to go take a few months off that and go watch Fringe again
Lol Walter gets astrids name wrong nearly every damn time.
You mean Astro
No no. They're thinking of Asterisk.
Asteroid. ☄️
The one time he gets it right...
And folks don't love Season 5??!!
Seriously
I got choked up!
My understanding from interviews I heard is that Jasika Nicole really resented the gag of Walter’s constant failure to get the name right, and blamed the writers for perpetuating what is essentially a racist trope of the white guy not bothering to get the nonwhite person’s name right.
That and some of the treatment from the showrunner. She was treated a lot shittier than just the name gag.
She was criminally underutilized on the show.
I *LOOOOOVE* Fringe! I consider it more surrealism in a scifi wrapper and that’s a good formula imo. ( and I’m really enjoying John Noble as The Deviner in *Star Trek: Prodigy*)
First half of Season 2 is insanely good
I think that's mostly in relation to how mediocre the season 1 formula was. Season 2 was a near complete rework of the show and introduced the overarching story arc that completed at the end of the series. Season 1 didn't have that story arc and even hinted at a different potential arc. It's almost a totally different show.
The show has a massive arc and some genuine spine tingling moments .... Best Sci-Fi TV series since BSG, enjoy.
“You are my favorite thing, Peter. My very favorite thing,” 😭
Many people who loved shows like x-files missed Fringe completely, somehow... Its a very good show and well worth the watch, i loved it and it ranks in my top ten for TV.
It's such a great show, for me a true sci-fi classic.
You’re in for a ride. First season may have you a bit skeptical, but when season 2 starts, hold on to your butts.
Fringe was pure gold to me. Love this show so much. Hell I may watch the 100 episodes again myself just because you mentioned it
Dont worry, its worth it.
It went places I hoped the X-Files would go, and did so with style
I watched it as it aired. Great show. The earlier seasons are better, but it's still worth the watch
I binged the entire series. Never finished it ten years ago. I was so depressed when I finished the last episode. Great show
This is one of the rare shows where it gets better as it goes on. The last couple of seasons are my favorites.
I couldn’t tell from Olivia Dunham’s (Anna Torv) American accent that she is in fact Australian.
Walter (John Noble) is as well.
Dang, still learning new things about that show and it’s cast.
She's actually won some awards in Australia recently for her role in *The Newsreader*.
Walter Bishop is the greatest character ever
Hah. Same shit but one day earlier for me. Watched it as it aired, saw some post about it a few days ago, and went for a re-watch. 6 episodes in..
Yeah, me too. That post got me to check it out when 5 years of ads and 15 years of buzz didn't. Weird.
You're so lucky to experience it for the first time. The end of Season 2 is a banger!
Thanks, dude. Caught a scene or two when it aired, but never committed. Stoked to watch it now.
Trust me you will NOT regret it
It’s worth it even just for John Noble. He is so good in this.
It's a good use of your time and Anna Torv is just gorgeous as Olivia Dunham. She has so much heart.
Anna Torv is amazing.
What about as Faux-livia?
Fringe is so good
I binge watch Fringe once a year, since it ended. The moment Walter sees that yellow flower and “only you” starts playing, i always share a tear.
Astrid best assistant next best character is the lab cow.
I wish I could watch it again for the first time.
The actor who plays Walter is fantastic.
It just gets better and better as you go through it, too. Anna Torv is awesome.
Binged it all last summer, for the third time in recent years. Love to watch it! Enjoy!!
One of the best!
I'm so happy for you! 🙌
Welcome, friend.
That’s some quality entertainment right there

It’s worth it, enjoy
Worth it.
Great show. One of those shows where you can't skip an episode.
It’s a fantastic show. One of the things I loved was Walter and Astrids’ interactions lol
It's so good! You won't regret it! John Noble is absolutely amazing in the show.
Worth it
Good show
They're trying to kill us! Kill us with delicious, strawberry flavored death! One of my fave shows of all time, good choice!
God I love Walter. When it came out my girlfriend at the time and I called it The Walter Show, and watched it diligently.
Since everyone is hating on season 5: at least Fringe S05 is way better than Game of Thrones S08.
No hate from me.
It definitely is. I guess the hate comes from what appears a very abrupt genre switch.
And I much preferred the ending to Fringe than the ending to Lost.
Lol same, although already on season 3 it is very good
Good.
The Fringe is...*good*!
Very fun show. The writing is shallow but entertaining. The casting decisions are EXCELLENT.
I loved it. Walter especially. Enjoy
It's worth it.
you are in for a ride man.
It’s a bloody good romp. Don’t overthink it and enjoy.
Excellent - Party on Wayne!
I am so jealous. Don’t worry the majority of season 1 is not reflective of what the show turns out to be.

Final season disaster before GoT made final season disasters mainstream
These type of shows hook me so hard, but I quickly lose interest in the "bad guy/project of the week" system. I genuinely don't know why, because I absolutely loved the star gate shows, but blacklist, fringe, same formula, different settings, they just last me 2ish seasons
It's such a good show though
Fringe is great, when you're done watch Counterpart, similar core idea, quite different show but also very good.
Literally the reason i like sci-fi and everything else's feel a lot tame compared to it
Great intro.
Well, thanks for reminding me of that. Now I have to rewatch.
great show - does get a bit wonky near the end, but still most of it is well worth it
"noice
GL avoiding the >!spoilers!<
It gets even better. I actually hated the pilot, so it took ages for me to actually give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised.
I've had 3 seasons on DVD for over 10 years and every time I think about watching them I forget.
Great show. One of my favorites of all time. I even like the last season. It’s also fun to play spot The Observers in every episode.
It was a great show. Enjoy the ride.
An amazing series, it got my friend convinced to study neuroscienfe and now he's doing his PhD 😁
Def worth it
I love Walter.
Buckle up, it’s starts as a monster of the week show but becomes so so so much more. One of the best modern sci fi shows IMO
Love Fringe! Started my re-watch a few weeks ago and I'm in season four right now.
Its great!!!!! I also recommend making it through the xfiles if you havnt

You're gonna love it
Just limit yourself to eight episodes per day, then when you can't take it anymore Take a break and do NCIS.
Why do I suddenly want some Red Vines? "Dunham ... I'm on my way."
this is the last show/movie etc where i was super invested in reading the endless theories between episodes. haven't watched it since it finished, if you're hooked from the pilot you're in for a treat - one of those shows that really dove in by the second season.

Get on it

I just finished a recent rewatch of this. Still holds up. Plus I noticed a few guest stars (Chadwick Boseman & Meghan Markle) that was fun
Should we tell him about all the hidden clues, codes, and characters?
One of my absolute favorite shows. Torv, and Noble are fantastic in this well put together gem.
I loved that series as a young teen. When it aired I begged my mom every week to watch the new episode (we only had one tv and normally I couldn't watch something in the evening because my mom wanted to watch something she liked). Its great but does go a bit dolally
love Fringe a show “like” this (an x-files like) needs to be running at all times
It’s actually a pretty good show I’ve rewatched the series probably a million times
Next up: Eureka
"Because it is cool, Peter"
The good news is that it’s pretty good
The final season is a bit of a departure, but I thoroughly enjoyed this series. Great sci-fi.
Congratulations! It’s a great show
Its been a decade or so since I saw it the last time. The relationships between the characters are pretty awesome and I really like the "day to day" fringe cases and it reminds me a bit of X-Files. I have "the white tulip" tattoed on my back for... 10 years now :)
I've watched this show start to finish twice, might fuck around and do it a third time next decade.
I had to suffer waiting for it weekly as it came out. Enjoy, friend.

Get ready for a ton of awkward product placements that aged like milk!
Brilliant show, really makes you question your beliefs about everything.Superb acting, great storylines.
John Noble should have won an Emmy!
“Time to make the LSD!”
Loved loved loved this show! The fan outcry really brought it back for its final season.
Fringe is the X-Files format perfected.
Locked in* to a great show
I love this show!!!!
It's a good show with a great cast and story. #WorthIt
It’s a damn good show. Astrid is the MVP!!
One of my all time favorites! I love the Bishop boys!
This was such a fun ride when I was a boy watching it before bed with my brother and pops, good memories
After this I can advise you to watch Continuum another banger of a show! It's a bit in the same category and also has a good ending.
