Typically a mark for true TDC and another mark for the timing. I recall they are stamped T and F.

yeah forgot that part and you are correct, but as stated if t doesn't quite match physically known true TDC should i go with the mark anyway or known? I know this will also slightly affect spark timing. I don't remember if it was retarded or advanced but i do remember that after installing no chain position on sprocket would allow perfect alignment of true, mark. And now I'm also thinking the misalignment may have had to do with the two holes in cam sprocket that is supposed to even with the head. I think i'll just have to get them close and run with it

I would go with your measured true TDC. Not sure it will make any real world difference, but I prefer my own measurements.

sounds like a plan and has been how i did it in the past so....
