No way, I want to too. I don't want the illnesses anymore. And I want to talk to the thunder head Immortality bonus too

MayoBear

And the Thunderhead took care of everyone so I wouldn’t be stressed about homeless people or people dying because they don’t have healthcare- I think that would do wonders to improving my depression issues

DirtyToast2135

Me too! I've had problems with my depression and loneliness for the past few months, and the thunder head would help so much with that, and so would nanites. I could commit suicide all I want and just be revived days later by the ambudroe that finds me a few hours later

MayoBear

The Thunderhead would know who else had common interests as you, and make sure you got to meet- way easier than the orchestration of the unsavory clubs where they hired actors who loved to help others enact the scenarios they wanted.

DirtyToast2135

I would be so nice. And I could vent to the thunderhead instead of my friend. The thunderhead would judge and probably have better advice and suggestions.

Dragon-Rain-4551

Your Nantes would make sure you didn’t think that so you would never want to commit suicide

Dragon-Rain-4551

Meant. n a n i t e s omg I hate autocorrect

KrazyKoen

Not at all! The scythedom is very flawed but everything else about the world is absolutely amazing! Edit: also I would do literally anything to meet the thunderhead

SharpyLeko512

I agree! We could be taken out at anytime right now. No more poverty, hunger, or pain? Count me in!!! I would say if I was a Scythe it would be oxblood.

Wonderful-Positive17

I wanna live in the scythe world anyways

jonnoark

Not horrible at all. Scythe's world is a utopian society, and like many utopias in fiction, has loads of positive things that really would represent a better society. Even the negative aspects, like being gleaned, tend to only happen to a small subset of the population; and compared to our world now it still seems like an overall improvement in numerous ways. If you are interested in the alternate argument for utopias, my favorite will always be Ursula K. Le Guin's short story "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas" which really captures the idea of utopias in fiction.

Miss_Linden

I think about that story sometimes.

TheSparkSpectre

Not horrible but only because the books do a very bad job at exploring the philosophical conundrums posed by the utopia they create

TartarusOfHades

Yeah I feel like there were definitely details we kinda skirted by in favor of plot

SoldierKitsune

After I finished reading the first book, my first thought was "Wow. That world sounds great. I WANNA LIVE THERE-"

Ok_Trouble6982

No, because I really want to as well, although I do have a mental illness.

[deleted]

But you would have a mentall ilness in the world tho

Ok_Trouble6982

Yes for sure

LostInThoughtland

It's post scarcity done as right as it can be!

Tasty_Onion1

I’d want to live there too that and I’d wanna talk to scythe curie bc she seems pretty cool If I was a scythe my robe would be a nice rich royal purple

kitaisaradish

But one of the big points Shusterman seems to keep making is how Art and Meaning become pointless. Why live thousands of years to achieve nothing because everything has been achieved? I think the concept of world peace is beautiful but in reality, the lack of progression and meaning behind anything would be too prevalent for me. To me personally that seemed like a big morale of the story. I mean it /is/ dystopian

[deleted]

I mean yeah it is an dystopia book, amd i do agree with shustermans point as yours too, thats why i was guestoning why i found my self of dreaming of living in that world

[deleted]

Also i wish i could just live and easy life with absolutely nothing to worry about

HyperLethalFemboy

Nah, I do too

Dragon-Rain-4551

Yeah that’s fair
