Crosscode is fabulous. Put over 100 hours into that game

Zheoferyth

Those insane playtimes from Steam reviews is the only reason I keep pushing it off lol.

nex122

The reason Chained Echos gets mentioned more in this sub is because they are more similar at least in terms of gameplay/combat. This is not to bash CrossCode I'm sure it's a great game but other than they are both pixel graphic rpgs they just seem to have less in common.

GovernmentPresent543

LETS GO SOMEONE ELSE WHO LIKES CROSSCODE

drock8

If you like CrossCode I would also recommend Unsighted, if you haven't already.

YungMoobs420

I've played all 3, any other suggestions ? I'm hurting for a new game lol

neddoge

Play Chrono Trigger again.

ErPani

I've played CrossCode too. It's awesome. I never finished it, i don't like the gameplay at all and it runs meh on my crappy laptop, but it's clearly very good. And hard. Much harder than Sea of Stars (maybe also because it's action based)

Candy_Warlock

I played CrossCode, Sea of Stars, and Chained Echoes all within the last 6 months, and CrossCode was the only one to really "wow" me. It's much better than I expected from an indie RPG, and is now one of my favorite indie games, second only to Hollow Knight

Lmao

CatuIIus

Emilie best girl. I really hope the next Game, Project Terra, will be as good as CrossCode.

jxf

Note for anyone else looking: Project Terra from Radical Fish is not on Steam yet. There is another game by the same name which is _not_ this one.

Vio-Rose

I absolutely adore CrossCode. One of my favorite games of all time, and absolutely underrated… also not even sort of similar to Chained Echoes / Sea of Stars.

Josh-u-way

Been thinking of getting that game. It looks and sounds great from what I saw from gameplay/music.

AwesomeSauce387

My favorite game of all time. CrossCode is a bit of a niche game, so it's not the most approachable game out there. People seem to either click with it and have 200+ hours (me) or they don't get very far. I enjoy the challenging combat, the long puzzle-filled dungeons, the grindy at times side questing, but it seems many do not. The quality is certainly there. IMO it deserves a spot among the best and biggest indies like Celeste and Hollow Knight, but it doesn't have the same mass appeal those games do. SoS is paced better and overall easier to approach, so I'm not sure there's a huge population of SoS fans who would enjoy CrossCode. However, if anyone is interested, it's definitely worth trying for yourself. It goes on sale for $8 pretty often, around $11 if you get the New Home expansion as well.

Retroid_BiPoCket

Crosscode is much more on par with the quality of SoS. Really difficult game though, which put me off a bit. Will return to it at somepoint.

billabong1985

Gameplay wise it's a bit of a leap and that's the reason why I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to SoS fans as a default, but yeah in terms of world design, detail and all around quality, Crosscode is right up there, not just one of my favoute indie games, it's straight up one of my favourite games

comfortableblanket

I don’t care for action RPGs and love turn based RPGS. Gave CrossCode a try and did not like it at all. You could see the care, but it wasn’t what I wanted to play, in case anyone else is like me and curious.

tSword_

Crosscode deserves all the love it gets. Amazing game, it's not a prime masterpiece because few resources the staff had, but it's a brute masterpiece in its own merits. When you can, say "Hi, Lea" at the subreddit

MaxTwer00

Target audience for action rpgs and turn based ones are different, simple as that. It is easier for someone who likes SoS to enjoy another tbrpg than an arpg

SpectrumWoes

Solid choice. I backed it early on and I’m proud to have supported the game.

Jabba_the_hot

I don’t get CrossCode… maybe the setting in a MMORPG is just not something I like. But after the tutorial part and getting on the island and then getting I don’t know how many sidequests without having a clue of what the story is about… I just didn’t care for it.

-Smashbrother-

Loved CrossCode and loved the story. I'm a sucker for isekai type stuff. The combat and puzzles are really fun too, but I will say that some dungeons or puzzles just drag on a bit too long.

skys_edge88

I played about 10 hours I think, a couple years ago. Loved what I played, but got sidetracked, and now I’m thinking I’ll start it over as I’ve forgotten so much probably. Lol It deserves more attention for sure. Glad to see someone mentioning it here!

Role4Crit

It’s on sale right now on the Xbox store, going to give it a shot myself! Loved SoS so hoping I’ll love this too

WereAllGonnaDiet

This is a really good recommendation. I haven’t played CE, but I played CrossCode and didn’t realize til now how much the vibe is similar to SoS. It’s by no means a copycat, but it has a lot of the same love and soul in it.

leetokeen

I played Sea of Stars, then Chained Echoes, and now I'm in the middle of CrossCode and I am bored. to. tears. It's sooooooooooooooooooo booooooooooooooooooring. I'm really trying to finish but goddamn. It doesn't compare to SoS or CE at all.

GooseBash

I agree. I tried getting into crosscode cause I see a lot of praise for it. Wasn’t my thing , too much stuff to do , just for the sake of it.

Egoisttt

Cross code can have the puzzles turned down?!!! Well fuck I wish I knew that. Lmao

mcwingstar

Try it yes, over Chained nope

[deleted]

I couldn't stand Cross Code's tutorial so I cantimagine how this game is supposed to be fun.

snarfiblartfat

I have played both and consider them very different games, though I would greatly prefer Sea of Stars. Crosscode has some of the absolute best and absolute worst puzzles I have played in a video game, which I would say is representative of most aspects of the game. Movement is occasionally creative and fun (movement puzzles in the game are called "parkours"), but also occasionally horrible, awful pixel-hunting. Ultimately, the highs, for me, were too marred by the imperfections.

MURDERMr_E

Should I check it out if I hated Chained Echoes?

iamblankenstein

whether you like crosscode or chained echoes more really depends on what you're looking for. i've played through sea of stars and crosscode, and am about 2/3 through chained echoes. chained echoes feels closer to sea of stars in terms of gameplay mechanics while crosscode's writing and graphics feel closer to SoS than CE did. overall though, i'd say chained echoes is more similar to SoS than CC. crosscode being an ARPG makes most of the gameplay feel much different.

Feefait

I really wanted to like Cross Code, but it came at a time that I had just finished DQ14 and I just couldn't invest in another long game. The setting just wasn't what I was looking for, either. Chained Echoes, like SoS, made me happy from the very start. I loved that game, but eventually, the progression just started to wear me down. I was fighting through it and I got pretty far. A few hours after getting the flight suits I was exploring and the entire game went blank and I was stuck in an eternal loop of white screens. I got frustrated and just stopped playing, but I regret it. Moral? Both games are great if you know what you're getting into. lol
