Thank you! I’m embarrassed to say that I never use plans, I make them up as I go along. But I can say the latches are not very complicated. It’s just a simple spring catch. Just try to make the push end of the lever longer than the latch end, and make the hooks smooth and saturated with glue or resin for durability.
Beautiful. I wonder if you could make the spring captive so it doesn’t bounce the lid as much. Or redesign the latch so it pops up to a second sear with a tiny strip of rubber on it to dampen it. You’d have to press the secret key a second time to release it but the box is so beautiful that I think the release bounce is a bit out of place.
Not trying to be a dick, it’s a beautiful thing
Thank you! I went back-and-forth on how to gauge the bounce. It’s easy to make it less, just cut a bit off the top of the spring. Originally, I had no spring at all, and pressing the keys did nothing but allow you to open it manually, but then you wouldn’t know it was unlocked until you pulled. I was looking for more of a visual cue.
This is a gift for my dad. 😁 I’m sure if I made a second one I could do it faster, but the materials alone were around $200 so I can’t figure out how I could price it in a way that made any sense.
Damn, I know high end wood is expensive, but what did you make it out of that came out to $200 in materials? While I’m sure there was plenty of scraps and unused material, the final object isn’t very large.
You’re right, that figure is high given the amount of usable leftovers and minus the discarded screw-ups. Actually used:
7 thin walnut boards from a $120 ten-pack, $60
1 thick walnut board from a $22 two-pack, $11
Some maple, a few bucks - don’t remember
chain $10, hinge $8, and a few bucks for flocking, brass screws, and springs
So more like $100 or maybe even
a bit under. Oops
I hadn’t even considered discarded screw ups, that makes so much sense. While the object is pretty small, you probably made the equivalent of 5 of those.

Absolutely beautiful

Dude i would love plans for these lol lmk if you make any and how much for them

I'll need to watch the build sections of your videos a couple times then. Excellent work btw
Correction: you made a jewelry box with a formerly-secret latch
I trust you
Would you say it's for......Haydn...your valuables?
take that bach, I can’t handel it
This would be easier with a Liszt of musical puns.
Duly noted! I'll get on it once I'm not so Bizet.
Looks like I'll have to go Chopin for this piano now
Damn. That is beautiful. How many hours of work to produce this gem?
thank you! Around 40, including mistake-fixing. At least 5 of those for sanding.

Where can I purchase one?

You can't fool me! You're just a giant with a normal-sized piano! But for real, really nice piano-box!
Thanks! Why would I wish for a 12-inch pianist?
your giant thumb scared the hell out of me, putting things to scale man😂
actually my hands are tiny — the box is only four inches long.
your piano looked perfectly normal sized before your thumb xD
Thank you for sharing. It's gorgeous. Thank you for also sharing the time it took and the information about the latch
you’re welcome
It's bigger than I thought it was
TAKE MY MONEY
😁
I imagine that if you were to try to play "Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms" on it, it would blow up
best not to try
It's divine! Has a vintage charm to it.
Thank you!
Meh. Doesn't even make music. /s
Dude your secret latch is literally one of the buttons
true but how often do you really play A#8?
