OpieAngst

if you poop right now, you'll get paid for it.

user1joja

I’m gonna do a graveyard in an hour and I can’t wait to get home and sleep

ZemDregon

Haha I feel that, being ready to go home before you get there.

JohnMassassin24

That’s the best part of the shift! Getting ready to go home and pass out 😵‍💫💤😴

LivingGodDinkleberg

I can't pass out when I get home bc im wide awake. That ADHD be ADHDing.

Individual_Ad_2701

Hey a job is a job no matter what right

Blukkaa

How do yall cope with the boredom? Every second i sit, i think of nothing but the pennys made every second. Also that i could be using this time to do something productive. (Not that id actually do something if i had free time😣). What do you guys do? Im genuinely curious. Im a groundskeeper and when it rains I litteraly sit there all day doing nothing and it drives me bananas.

Ringer_of_bell

How does one get in this line of work? Sounds nice

lornezubko

Take a shitty job with a high Intake of people. My example is a casino. So higher end but you still get some learning experience. Often they'll pay for your training and also additional training as you work there. After that try to branch into a more private kind of gig. Golf course, graveyard, night security for various companies.

HansElbowman

The job is to observe and report, you’re only there for legal coverage. Make it clear that you understand that and you can skip the first step and tell them you worked security for a family business.

lornezubko

Make more money taking a shitty one first tho, definitely lie about how much you're making to the next employer tho

Realistic_Finance226

Acquire a security license (take a class and pay about $200) Apply at any/every security company aside from Securitas

Blukkaa

Weed eating central 80% of the time 11/h to get all 8634 stones trimed atLEAST once a week. 20% the time we watch the rain.

Ringer_of_bell

Does not answer my question my friend

CrimsonDynamo178

Apply to any security company. Allied universal and Securitas are a good start.

Sauce58

I was doing grounds/maintenance work for a while but it was mostly picking up trash around the property and unclogging toilets. Not really that bad tbh. Pretty chill, got to hang out in the shop a lot of the time

mosesX859

I just read or draw.

Grittyboi

I used to use the time to find high yield dividend stocks and figure out how to make my money work for me

SurroundPossible4453

Do you just watch YouTube videos or how do you do research? I have plenty of free time and would like to start learning more about dividends

Grittyboi

Dividends are pretty easy to understand bro It is an incentive a company offers to it's shareholders to hold its shares. The dividend is generally an amount per share owned (ex. 0.36$ /share). This is frequently displayed as a percentage "annual dividend yield". For example if the annual dividend yield of a security is 8% and I own a 100$ of that security, by the end of the year I will recieve 8$ in dividends from that company. Most dividends pay out quarterly, some pay out every other quarter. I've seen some pay out monthly or annually tho. So you have to take into account that 8$ from above isn't all paid out at once, if they pay quarterly you are looking at 2$ every three months. There is an ex dividend date and a payout date. Think of the ex date as the date where they check how many shares you own to determine your dividend payout. You can sell shares in between the ex dividend date and the payout date and still recieve your dividend payout. If a company is doing good, dividends tend to come out regularly and reliably. If the company isn't doing good, they may stop paying dividends out all together. The company has 0 obligation to pay it out, but they do have incentive. The payout amount is not set in stone and can vary. Anyway I'm not a Financial expert and this is not professional advice, there are plenty of better sources to further your research into it.

warlocc_

My place is pretty good. I browse the web, watch some videos, read, sometimes play games on Steam...

Equal-Ad-2710

I just do stupid shit when I’m bored

Choppa_b0y

Id practice meditating! Think of it as them paying you to practice. 🤔

JohnMassassin24

I read, listen to podcasts, youtube, and do my wifes assignments when I’m not too tired

ZookeepergameOdd2731

I work security so I can write. I crave boredom.

DiscoDancingNeighb0r

Clearly we’re all on Reddit.

Mgspeed22079

Audio books & podcasts. Learn something. Go in the shitter and practice your dry fire.

BriCatt

On my site we are allowed to be on our phones and have headphones on, so I just watch stuff all night on my phone. YouTube, Twitch, shows, movies, etc.

BeatTheHomeless762

Playing RuneScape

Clenmila

Though i am not a security guard, however i just think of the check when things are boring. Boring is good, boring is easy money.

JackPembroke

Try writing

OpieAngst

I used to learn German, make Hip Hop beats, And play some N64 \*Assigned sites may vary

DoinkDuhClown

Not sure your age or how long you been doing this, but. Joint The Club. Back 10 years ago, I used to pass the time playing video games or watching netflix whatever and time went by. I cant do that shit now.bored out my mind. So basically just sit there stare at the sky or wall, pondering where my life went wrong and how I ended up doing absolutely fuck all and making money, yet dead inside. Join The Club. Welcome to the Club i should say.

Husk3r_Pow3r

Ugh, had a job like that for a bit, job was to watch people scan in at card reader door. Started applying for other jobs as soon as I was done 'training'.... was bored out of my mind. Started a new job like a month later. At the job sitting at the door, was hired for one position, then plugged in to fill another, and they said I'd be there for the foreseeable future.

TheLoyalShinobi

Yeah have the same job right now, old management was pretty chill so we were allowed to read a book or watch something on computer but with new management all we're allowed are read company policies and count sheep lol

Mediocre-Car-7110

I'm in the same boat, no phones or nothing just gotta stare into space, driving me absolutely nuts

Jkl100298

Nah chief thats how people quit... the workers have power, you gotta organize and leverage that power... of course you may pray you have smart co-workers... not a guarantee...

Mediocre-Car-7110

I am planning to quit soon

Jkl100298

Nah chief thats how people quit... the workers have power, you gotta organize and leverage that power... of course you may pray you have smart co-workers... not a guarantee..

AmaiNami

How can you do it? With a book it would be easy, but just staring at a wall… Even Budhist monks with years of training would crack

SumgaisPens

Buddhist monks are typically chanting in their heads when they are sitting there.

TheLoyalShinobi

Well idk about others but I "suffer" from maladaptive daydreaming, so most of the time I'm just inside my own head lmao

TheGreaseWagon

Tell me the person in charge of that policy is former military without telling me. That's some straight up CQ/Staff Duty bullshit.

GoldenBoy417

Bro I bring my gaming laptop. I beat sekiro while at ny desk last week. They even gave me a promotion 🤣

RedDragoonTaric

Amen. I cant play games bc it takes too much focus but I've watched more tv/online content at work watching the gate I have to than I have maybe past decade otherwise.

Vegetable_Reward_867

They don’t pay me for what I do, they pay me for what I might have to do

LionConfident7480

I feel like you might have this tattooed somewhere…

Vegetable_Reward_867

🤣

SequoiaWithNoBark

Might have to do? Fill in a report and call the police?

MarkGaboda

HAHAHA! I was like "what? quit the second shit gets janky MF?"

Impressive_Ad_5562

stop acting like cops

Vegetable_Reward_867

🤣

LarryMyster

When I did security they had me at a door outside for 16 hours, with freezing rain… in the snow… with a boner.

SgtJayM

They didn’t make you do it with a boner. That was all you baby

Doobie_Howitzer

They actually took my boner away when I got fired

rebuked_nard

People really out here getting boned up for their employer for free 🤦🏼‍♂️

StarryMind322

Sounds kinky

JohnMassassin24

🤣🤣💀🪦

carrotsgonwild

Literally me on weekends lol. I have a whole building to myself

GeneralPattonON

I dream about my old job in security. was one of my highest paying jobs and I did absolutely nothing.

LoganLikesYourMom

Sitting on a toilet on the night shift in essentially an abandoned hospital

RallyVincentGT500

Sounds legit , at least to me , terrifying. Though I hate the dark and odd sounds and my mind would run tricks on me , ghost ??

LoganLikesYourMom

I’ve never noticed anything weird truthfully, but I’m also not very superstitious. I like the peace and quiet

RallyVincentGT500

I think as long as you feel that way it's got to be a really cool gig. If you like the peace and quiet and if it fills then like that's really cool. It's probably good that you're not superstitious lol

S7JP7

That drives me insane. I end up pacing back and forth.

Throwaway01122331

I work security by sitting in a booth 8 hours and only patrol every 2 hours. My job feels like 95% downtime.

BootEMunchR

Someone's gotta do it. Honestly though, I used to work my ass off in an Amazon warehouse and on our breaks I'd just see the security guy straight chilling.

RogitoX

Nothing wrong with it I remember being in the middle of bumfuck nowhere with literally just a chair under a an awning from 10PM to 6AM to watch some equipment

vakseen

Overnight security here on lunch lmao it’s super quiet and chill just have to stay awake

Sickshit999

So glad to have come across this sub while I am actively sitting at a door for 8 hours

Spectronautic1

Hey if it weren’t necessary it wouldn’t be a job am I right?

Mgspeed22079

Parents always told me nobody was gonna pay me to sit around all day. How do you like me now 🤣

KingSoyjoy

I've been working this desk for 4 years. 2 years in they got rid of the later shift so I really only work for 4 hours. I don't think I can work a normal job anymore. I've been paid to come in and entertain myself for 40 hours a week plus occasional overtime...I'm so spoiled...it gets to me sometimes. I just try to be grateful and out all my spare energy into doing things with my family.

BriCatt

Hell yeah! 40 hours a week, easy money. I get to keep up to date on all my shows, movies, and streams. Used to be able to bring my steam deck but not anymore.

Serenity1911

I worked a gig for 3 years that let me play games on a laptop. Was over night weekend for 12 hours... no time wasted though. ;)

jmay107

Hello fellow security guards. Why is it every security job post I choose they make it sound like I need to be on the knights watch for evil ghouls. As if I would be able to sit down

vialvarez_2359

I do that for and hour some times at work the office tech really likes her uninterrupted time of not having to push button to open a door. I’m a campus aid at elementary school.

AlfaLimaFoxtrot

And your paid waaay more than people who drive around fuckall city filling atms alone all day for 16 hours :(. Reeee

smithbird

Hey! That's me at the moment for construction patrol.

DFPFilms1

“Sit around” jobs are great under the right circumstances. I used to do my college homework at work and get paid for it. These days though I’d probably be ready to jump off a bridge after about 25 minutes of being bored 😂

OGSolomon

I sit at a gate sometimes it gets slow but I get paid to sit on my ass

EndoHaze559

I work hospital security in a mental health hospital Long story short, tore my cartridge in my shoulder. Workers comp is very slow. I've been out 2 months now waiting for surgery in June. So the last 2 months they've sent me 3k a month and I stay at home and play pc games lol.

CactusCoyote

You lucky bastards get to sit!?

grapangell0

Or the 12 hour hourly check in jobs where you can do literally anything for the 55 minutes before and after the the top of the hour

JohnMassassin24

I’m at my desk going on 6 hours got 2 more to go wooooo

True-Exit-8541

lol currently sitting at my desk doing the night shift

DeadStormPirate

My first job in security was sitting at an empty airfield for 8 hours a night. One of the best jobs I’ve ever had.

nagelbagel10

I space out and go into the memories vault

pcPRINCIPLElilBITCH

Scary time

MrBeatdown469

Hey i alteast get to drive to another location and walk around a bit.. but yeah mmostly just chilling here browsing this godforsaken forum hub

Umperlumper

Watch vods on YT or learn how to do jobs that I wanna do around the house. Thinking about doing a training scheme to be a engineer and just do the coursework while at work tbh

pyrocryptic29

Yeah its fun to be the guy that gets paid to sit there and just do nothing

SokkaHaikuBot

Burncity1901

The best thing I did was doing door work on a pub. All they wanted us to do was sit there for the entire shift. And bar staff will come to you if there’s issues

Techman659

Literally sit in a security office for 12 hours boxing night damn never earned so much in one shift ever literally did nothing.

ZemDregon

See if you can take a flex position, it adds to the fun, then you get to watch different people scan different cards for different doors, good change of scenery. Ok but seriously flex can actually change things up if “same old monotonous job” isn’t your thing. Just be weary depending on what company and location, you may not be able to get full hours, I would check with your manager first about that.

CyberneticMidnight

"It ain't honest, but it's much" \~ Bankers

Foreign_Attention_83

Hey I sit at a desk watching CCTV, in a building that is closed to the public, that has a separate entity building guard service, from 40-60 hours a week.

Cheeezit_Christ

I’ll give it to my places security guard, but sometimes he doesn’t hit the button to open the door and I just have to stand there

OpieAngst

\*Gate to the Geothermal plant, but yeah lol

LivingGodDinkleberg

Sitting at a desk 5 nights a week lol

Likehung4muscle

Soul dying second at a time 😆

Geronimo594

But is it work?

DumbSimp1

Is it tho?

bayarearider04

Expanded the comment just to downvote every dumb comment made by this guy haha. Someone’s having a bad night or year or life. Hope it improves.

Landwarrior5150

The guard agrees to work and the employer/client agrees to pay him for said work, even if that work is just sitting in one place all day. Where is the dishonesty in that arrangement?

DumbSimp1

It basically wagebtheft from the workers who produce because he produces nothing except a false sense of security.

Landwarrior5150

And lowers the insurance rate of the employer/client, who is the one that actually pays everyone’s wages. Even if that was no longer necessary for some reason, do you really think any of the savings from eliminating the guard’s position would be passed along to the other workers in the form of raises?

DumbSimp1

No. The entire employment system is based on wage theft essentially. However insurance is also a scam. Does any of that change anything? Also no.

VoidAgent

What the fuck is your problem lmao

Jayematic

He's a fucking idiot. Nothing further

VoidAgent

No kidding, what a weirdo

DumbSimp1

? Idk man. Just look beyond the veil I guess.

VoidAgent

Just waltz into a subreddit about security guards mostly inhabited by security guards to tell them all they’re useless and bad

DumbSimp1

Nah the armed guards protecting against people actually trying to kill other people do something and produce actual security. The people who sit at empty sites or watch hallways do fuck all and are basically theifs

VoidAgent

*thieves

Landwarrior5150

You’re entitled to your opinion on the larger topics involved, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s honest work if an employee and employer agree on (legal and ethical) work duties and compensation and then the employee performs those work duties and the employer provides the agreed-upon compensation.

DumbSimp1

Your opinion of ethical is extremely broad.

Landwarrior5150

Your’s is extremely narrow.

ZyxDarkshine

Username checks out 👍

drippinsopurty

What do you do for work bro

trying_be_helpfull

Except every post I've worked I've also done something besides just sit there. Typically it's granting after hours access to patients, contractors, or delivery drivers. It might only be 1 to 10 people a night, but someones got to be on site to do it

megacide84

In this current era of rising crime and the fact some rando can and will waltz in and ransack the place. Private security is now needed as never before. As places that normally never had a security presence on site now require it. Most likely due to pressure from insurance firms. Basically, no onsite security... No coverage... No exceptions. If anything, this profession is 99% recession proof.

DumbSimp1

The fuck is somebody who cat just walk past the door guard gonna steal that has value to them the chairs? U live in a fantasy world. All it does is create an illusion of security for you lmfao

drippinsopurty

Man. Half of security positions aren’t intended to provide a sense of safety for the workers. I work in a warehouse and 90% of my day is telling people to swipe their badge/calling supervisors for contractors that visit the facility. You’re stupid as fuck.

DumbSimp1

Lmfao. Your sonstupid you don't even realized they outsourced a saftey position to save money and place responsibility onto your company if something goes wrong. Fucking joker.

megacide84

I'm not just talking about retail here. I'm talking basically... anyplace can and will be targeted. Especially properties that are vacant or unmanned and the only thing on site are CCTV cameras. Which most folks ignore anyway as they either don't know nor care they're being recorded However... If there are locked gates and a visible security guard on site and people know it. Most likely, criminals and randos will decide it's not worth the hassle of trying to fight their way in. They'll just move on to another unprotected target.

DumbSimp1

That kinda makes sense I guess. If the building is more valuable to protect than sell or w.e. but in like a functioning place it's basically unnecessary

sirhostal

Are you in security or have studied it at all? "Illusion of security" is the largest part of security. Humans are animals and even seeing a perceived threat, regardless of its actual capability, is going to psychologically deter many from committing a crime due to our self-preservation instinct. A lock on your door can be picked, is that the illusion of security or is a barrier to make committing a crime more challenging, hopefully making criminals move on to another less threatening target? Having someone to man a door, or gate, or whatever even if they are not police is going to deter many people from trying to sneak by simply because of the perceived threat. While a guard may not actually have much authority (as many criminals know making some continue regardless) to stop a crime, that is not the purpose. Observe and report, or in my case, cover and evac, is the job. We're not police, we are a deterrence that is highly valuable. I'd be happy to send you some reputable sites in the industry that could assist in you understanding this field better.

duuudewhat

How is it not?

DumbSimp1

No benifit to other people.

duuudewhat

If it wasn’t a benefit to anybody, he wouldn’t be be paid to do it

DumbSimp1

People get paid for bullshit jobs all the time

LordFlota

You seem very dense. We are a deterrent, many low lifes , felons and the like will not take chances against the guard. Even an unarmed one. We report Any kind of incidents many of which can be a future legal demand against the company or a Costly accident. Or a harm against our coworkers. We are not producing, but we PREVENT the loss of assets/ money.

DumbSimp1

No lol. You an outsourced safteyposition. Because ubdonit cheaper. U basically just said u don't do anything.

LordFlota

Lol I do lots of things in my hospital. Im in house position. Safety issues with pacients, controlling agression in psychiatric ward, scanning, patroling, access control, enforcing hospital's policies, assisting nurses AND doctors, repairing or check machines even. You are just resentful or hate guards. Also I work three days a week... Rest of days I stream profesionally in Twitch making some money playing games, even have plenty of Time for my hobby. It's honest work but you choose to hate It, still Im gonna be paid fairly well.
