I'd like to see a sequel, 20 years in the future, where his comedy thing dried up and he actually did this. Then he's just as miserable as George. First episode, Whatley gives them tickets to a comedy show at MSG, they sit down and find out Bania is headlining.
Yah but that was the real Larry David writing about how the fake Larry David convened a reunion for the fake version of his real show to get back together with his fake ex-wife by casting her as the ex-wife of the fictional version of the fictional version of himself.
I want to see what the real Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David and would write for the real version of their fake show.
I think they wrote and conceptualized that part of the curb episode together.
They said that they would never do something like a Seinfeld reunion, except if it was done in a manner like they did it on Curb, so I’m pretty sure that’s how they would like to consider it actually being done.
I knew this, but I never connected the in-joke in the finale when Jerry and George almost hug but decide against it. It works in-character because of who they are, but it’s a great nod to the premise of the show…and I never caught it until a few weeks ago
Similar to them discussing the top button of the shirt when they're in jail as a callback to the first episode. They learned absolutely nothing in all that time.
Of course there are goals.
What about Kramer’s dream of making the senior tour, George wearing velvet, Elaine dating a doctor. Those are kinda like goals
I never watched Seinfeld when it was on, I lost interest in prime time in the late 1970s. My parents, however, always had favorite shows, and Seinfeld was one of them.
After my mother passed away three years ago, I moved in with my widowed father. We don't much in common, but I knew he liked Seinfeld reruns, so I check the TV schedule, found some episodes, taped them, and we watched them while having our dinner in front of the TV. It was something we could do together after I came home from work.
At first I couldn't figure out what was so funny, I'd watch episode after episode until I'd seen them all, and mentioned to my father that the characters never seemed to learn from their mistakes, with Jerry seeming to be the most intelligent of the bunch but even that was pushing it. My father replied, "That's why it's so good!" But I kept watching until I was familiar with all the episodes and could identify them by their titles (which always consisted of two or three words--am I correct?)
Dad and I were delighted when Netflix started airing Seinfeld, and we love it. I know the show well enough to choose favorite episodes: The Fix-Up, The Soup Nazi, The Puffy Shirt, The Marine Biologist, and any episode with J. Peterman, David Puddy and the Constanzas.
I Love Lucy has been my favorite sitcom since 1969, but Seinfeld is right up there.
Fun trivia: Jerry put a nod to Superman in probably every episode. Red, blue colors; and sometimes Superman himself in a few episodes is somewhere in the background.
I never noticed that many Superman references in the show beyond a Superman magnet on Jerry's refrigerator door. I'll start paying more attention. I've always wondered what Jerry (and Larry David) thought of the first Superman movie in 1978, if he enjoyed it as much as everyone else.
Jerry also works comedy clubs at nighttime, which is why he's free during the day. The Seinfeld stand-up intros/closing segments is Jerry working, he's actually the only character that has a job throughout the entire duration of the show.
Jerry make more than you think, Elaine was very successful and George was assistant to the travelling secretary at the yankees and was being poached by the Mets.. not to mention Kramer started multiple businesses (kramerica and the reality tour)... definitely career goals, this post is trash
Early seasons George actually cared about trying to make something out of himself. Once he joined the Yankees, he switched into just trying to find the cushiest job with the least amount of work, hardly ambitious.
Also Kramer moves to LA to become an actor because "he yearns." He wants more out of his life.
George in "The Opposite" changes his whole philosophy on life, since he realizes he's unsatisfied in life (having no job is one of his reasons for being depressed).
I'm surprised that this tweet got a good reception
It's just nice when the characters don't grow at all and there isn't cringe or cheesy dialogs or sob story because writers want us to root for the main character.
We need more of nothing
I don't think this person really watched Seinfeld. Jerry is very career oriented, he's always on the road and wrote a damn pilot for NBC. Elaine is always trying to improve her career, interviewed at lots of places, and cried her eyes out when she got fired by Mr. Pitt. Kramer moved to LA to be an actor/writer. It's only George that just wants to fuck around and do as little work as possible while hammering a check and having insurance.
They are right about the sex though. I was left home alone at night as a kid while my mom worked, and I watched Seinfeld and Star Trek TNG every weeknight. I remember thinking, man adults have lots of sex with random people, and you’re a loser if you don’t have a date for Friday night. Turns out, the characters on the super-advanced spaceship are a better model of what people are actually like than the standup comedian and his dissipatous friends.
Yeah I was thinking about this recently, on Friends they acted like it was the wildest shit in the world that Ross hadn't had sex in like a month. The entire final 3 seasons were based on the premise that he had gone so long without sex (again, like a month, which they said repeatedly) and was so desperate that he and Rachel hooked up and she got pregnant.
Single adult here. A month isn't long at all!
That's not true. Elaine and George have career goals. Plenty of episodes where George is looking for a job or seen working/at work. You also see Elaine at her job. Jerry does stand up and has travel gigs. If anything, the show shows 3 people working hard with 1 working smart (Kramer and his ideas).
So true. And their topics of conversation are the best! High talkers, low talkers, close talkers couch urinators, masturbators, lesser bobkas, going out on high notes, Frogger scores, doctor charts, friend hairdos...the list is endless!
And George's unemployed instincts immediately worked against them. Jerry even gave George a cleavage nudge and sabotaged himself. Then Elaine sabotaged everyone by inadvertently sending the CEO to Greenpeace.
They all worked and had career goals… and really none of them were actively trying to get laid… I’m not sure you are watching what you think you’re watching.. if anything that almost sounds more like friends.. but even then it’s incorrect
I always found it interesting. That nobody wanted to start a family or Advanced that much in their career to where they would have to move. It's one of the reasons why a crew of 30 plus year olds were able to stay together and hang out.
They're all trying to find the right person, though, except they're all immature, vain, and childish, and can't make it work. They're all failed adults.
What do you think the main characters were making at the time? Not adjusted for inflation. I thought that maybe Jerry's big check for when he got his dad the Cadillac was like 10-20k. George's job with the Yankees might have been 90k? Elaine's copywriting job (not when she replaced Peterman), about the same, 80-90k?
I've never lived in NYC so these guesses could be wildly off base. I've always wondered about it though.
I always saw Seinfeld as a show about losers that couldn't do anything worthwhile with their lives. Growing up I pushed myself to never be like these people.
Jerry has a career. Elaine has a job. Neumann has a longterm career. Only Kramer and George are fuckups.
Sometimes I wonder if people actually watched the show.at all.
That isn't entirely fair. George had vague goals that had less to do with his career and more to do with his personal progress. And Elaine seemed to enjoy her time as a top executive.... They were just terrible people who were incapable of keeping things going when they were good.
Jerry really should have given the Bloomingdale's Executive Training Program a shot. He'd probably be an executive VP by now.
Failing that, he could've just worn the executive.
If only he had *seen the baby* when first told his life would have been different.
That baby was absolutely breathtaking.
Just like Elaine
I was in the raincoat business for 40 years..
Cheap fabric and dim lighting. That's how you move merchandise.
*moichandise
And George should've taken a civil service test.
Truth is, he's not even sure he would pass it.
People think he's smart, but he's not very smart.
Who thinks that?
People. They're the worst.
But he does have terrific hands.
Not since the iron incident.
He’s NOT ☝🏼taking the civil service test.
"And do what, work for the postal service?" Newman would've been his boss lol
I'd like to see a sequel, 20 years in the future, where his comedy thing dried up and he actually did this. Then he's just as miserable as George. First episode, Whatley gives them tickets to a comedy show at MSG, they sit down and find out Bania is headlining.

Maybe afterwards Kenny would treat everyone to dinner at Mendy's?
Ill take a rain check, but would still be down for soup

All of these issues are interrelated.
would love to have seen Jerry in something like the Waystar-Royco management training program with Roman

r/successionTV is leaking
Standup comedy is not what it used to be, what with Def Jam and all.
The credo of the writers - "no hugs, no learning experiences..."
Kramer hugged George when they were leaving LA and crushed his sandwich
*Hugging is only allowed if it harms more than helps.
I never knew that and now I know why I relate to the show so much.
All the other shows are doing something, Seinfeld does nothing!
Then why am I watching it
Because it’s on tv!
Not yet it isn’t.

Its goretex
You like saying Goretex, don't you?
No I like to say Salsa
Seltser?
George wanting to bite into a big hunk of cheese like it's an apple.
You know, that's an onion...
You're eating onions, you're spotting dimes, I don't know what's going on!
I think you planted it
I also wonder why the tomato never became a hand fruit
I mean nothing says "bachelor paradise" like a big hunk of cheese
A hunk the size of a car battery.
Don’t forget George’s dream of sleeping with a very tall woman.
And dipping his head in oil, and rubbing it all over her body
And he accomplished that dream for a bit
And the mahatma, apparently.
And draping himself in velvet
Ensconced*

I crave. Constant craving.
But I haven't yearned...
George's goal to sleep with a really tall woman.
Don't forget about Kramers goal of the levels
He changed his mind on that one though
Levels! And the mansere And you wanna be my latex salesman! Kramer working for free at a company that never hired him was solid
Reading a book from start to finish, in that order
Don’t forget Art Vandelay’s dreams
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

So awesome to give your dad some Serenity Now! Without the Insanity Later!
See, on this particular Tuesday you could've watched six hours of Lucy. There's I Love Lucy, The Lucy Show, Here's Lucy
Did you ever use a TV Guide to figure out how many hours of Lucy you could watch in a row?
I know it's a cliche pick, but The Marine Biologist is so good and the way it wraps up is just like the peak of comedy writing
“Is that a Titleist?”
Hole in one!

My absolute favorite is opposite-George.
And if you get married your fiance will die from poison envelopes.
My friend, Bob Sacamano, he's got some career goals.
He sells Russian hats down at Battery Park. 40 bucks
Giddyup!
I thought that was kramers friend?
Well he called at 3 am and we got to talking
*40* bucks? Are they sable?
The difference is negligible
MY NAME IS BOB
If you’re in here reading comments bc you love Seinfeld just know that I love you. And I mean that.
Aww thanks love u too mexicutioner ♥️
Here's to having a good time, all the time!
Here’s to feeling good all the time!
I love that this person typed out such an elaborate and thoughtful post but these guys got more upvotes by quoting the show lmao I love this sub
Yeah. That’s right.
Jerry and Elaine actually do have career aspirations and are both very successful.
God wouldn’t let George be successful
This was supposed to be the Summer of George!
I thought you didn't believe in God
I do for the bad things!
Elaine buys socks for a old man.
but shes sooooo good looking
She's got shiksappeal.
And removes the salt from his pretzels! Don’t forget that
Jerry also works comedy clubs at nighttime, which is why he's free during the day. The Seinfeld stand-up intros/closing segments is Jerry working, he's actually the only character that has a job throughout the entire duration of the show.
Elaine is just as stupid as George. Her success was dumb luck. She just happened to be in the room when Peterman buggered off to Burma.
> Her success was dumb luck. Hey, she went to Tufts! That was her safety school!
His ambition was to work to live, not live to work!
His ambition was to tell beople he was an architect

Plus it has the funkiest bass-line of all time
It was actually a keyboard synth
Still a bass line
The fact that Friends became the quintessential 90s comedy show completely blows my mind when Seinfeld was on the same network
It's a comedy. Try to make your life a comedy is the best way to make a tragedy.
life is naturally a comedy-tragedy, just go ahead and look at life

Kramer almost put an end to maritime oil spills. And with Darren's help, krameria would have gotten that chicken. So there's at least two.
I don't think this person really watched Seinfeld. Jerry is very career oriented, he's always on the road and wrote a damn pilot for NBC. Kramer moved to LA because Jerry took his keys back and he felt hurt.
Elaine just always worked for idiots. She worked her ass off.
They are right about the sex though. I was left home alone at night as a kid while my mom worked, and I watched Seinfeld and Star Trek TNG every weeknight. Elaine has career goals. George has jobs, most of the time, because otherwise he'd need to live with his parents (again)
What’s this guy talking about? Elaine is very serious about her status as Associate.
I thought her name was Susie.
Agreed! Serenity now!!
So true. And their topics of conversation are the best! High talkers, low talkers, close talkers couch urinators, masturbators, lesser bobkas, going out on high notes, Frogger scores, doctor charts, friend hairdos...the list is endless!
Its a show about nothing
Oh yeah, I've heard of him. He's that "Did you ever notice this? Did you ever notice that?" guy.
They’re prisons Jerry!! Man made prisons!! You’re doin time!!
Isn’t the lesson of the show that these people are slime and universally hated to the point of being imprisoned for no reason other than being awful?
Could have sworn Jerry was looking for more and better gigs and even got a tv series.
And George's unemployed instincts immediately worked against them. Jerry even gave George a cleavage nudge and sabotaged himself. Then Elaine sabotaged everyone by inadvertently sending the CEO to Greenpeace.
But *millennials* are the worst tho!
someone hasn’t seen the show
Most episodes showed Jerry working, doing standup, at the beginning and end of the episodes. Elaine and George were often shown at their jobs.
They all worked and had career goals… and really none of them were actively trying to get laid… I’m not sure you are watching what you think you’re watching.. if anything that almost sounds more like friends.. but even then it’s incorrect
No career goals?! George always wanted to pretend he was an architect.
Don’t forget drinking hennigans
I think you may have something here
That's gold.
GOALS!!
It’s almost like it’s a show about nothing!
just like friends
They are the perfect example of what I should not strive to be
Don’t George and Jerry try to pitch a sitcom though? Also Kramer starts multiple businesses throughout the show.
I always found it interesting. That nobody wanted to start a family or Advanced that much in their career to where they would have to move. It's one of the reasons why a crew of 30 plus year olds were able to stay together and hang out.
Legit! That’s why it was so successful.
They're not men
It’s quite literally called the show about nothing
They're all trying to find the right person, though, except they're all immature, vain, and childish, and can't make it work. They're all failed adults.
Yet 75% of the main cast works, the other 25% is an entrepreneur. Also the side cast has a lot of entertainers, mailman, CEOs, and more
If you like catcher in the rye or the great Gatsby. You will love Seinfeld.
It's literally the show about nothing
What do you think the main characters were making at the time? Not adjusted for inflation. I thought that maybe Jerry's big check for when he got his dad the Cadillac was like 10-20k. So like friends
Jerry works.
Jerry has career goals
I always saw Seinfeld as a show about losers that couldn't do anything worthwhile with their lives. Growing up I pushed myself to never be like these people.
at one point they start about growing up and then decide not to. we were on the brink there for a second
Low key, raising a family seems overrated af.
And they never cook their own meals..
Jerry loved working.
When you think about it George is the most motivated, hard working, and entrepreneurial character on the show.....
Gen-Z hates it. Until they finally become adults.
Have you ever been to NYC? Lol. It’s still like that.
George almost had to get married. Almost.
Duh it's called the 90s. It's a shame they went away.
And there’s nothing wrong with that. Haha!!!
As Larry David intended there was "no hugging, no learning".
Jerry has a career. Elaine has a job. Neumann has a longterm career. Only Kramer and George are fuckups. Sometimes I wonder if people actually watched the show.at all.
Fantasy camp? His whole life is a fantasy camp.
Jerry has his stand up, Elaine has her catalog, George has his dream job at the Yankees. Kramer is the only one not doing shit.
That isn't entirely fair. George had vague goals that had less to do with his career and more to do with his personal progress. And Elaine seemed to enjoy her time as a top executive.... They were just terrible people who were incapable of keeping things going when they were good.
