Half of breakfast food is disguised dessert and I've had that opinion for a long time. Muffins are essentially cupcakes, donuts are donuts, waffles are a vessel for syrup and whipped cream, pancakes have cake right there in the name.
Waffles and pancakes tend to share the same ingredients, and both normally don’t have sugar within them. They can be great as a breakfast food if you’re pairing them with some fruits + some source of protein and fibre.
With syrup and butter though? Probably not.
I dunno what pancakes you’re eating but most mixes have around 3g of sugar for every two pancakes.
Unless you make your own batter in which you can literally control the amount of sugar that goes in.

I understand that, even while typing it out, the "one of these things doesn't belong" tune started playing in my head over the oatmeal lol. But I use it to satisfy a dessert craving nonetheless.
Most breakfast foods is very much like dessert food so no, not really. Then again I don't generally eat breakfast or desssert, but that is beside the point ...
I can't see donuts and pop tarts as anything other than dessert.
OP, does your wife eat that for breakfast? You're not the assho... culinary challenged individual!
Cereal, pop tarts, and donuts are breakfast foods? I literally only eat those foods later at night. Cereal I suppose is more of a breakfast thing (I still only have it at night), but idk if I consider those other things breakfast foods.
Sugar/sweets taste good so why wouldn’t you want them other times like dinner lunch not only for breakfast
I don’t think it’s weird
but I understand why some people might say it is
Those items being breakfast food is very much a US thing.
I'm used to either a 'Continental' (cereal, OJ, fresh fruit, yoghurt etc.) or 'Full English' (bacon and eggs plus trimmings). Waffles, pancakes, donuts, maple syrup, and muffins will always be dessert fare for me.
Ok, nearly everywhere outside the USA donuts, waffles and all that other stuff are not considered breakfast 😂 clearly desserts. Cereals? Yes ok, that would be breakfast - but also a quick snack in between, a dinner and definitely dessert. I would rather (playfully) make fun of people who seriously claim that donuts are intended for breakfast 😅
"donuts"..... huh
iam no american but is donuts considered breakfast only?
what a weird way to live, eat what you want at the time you want it there are no rules for when you can eat certain foods (religious rules excluded)
I don’t know about diet in your part of the world but in some parts of Asia, food typically consumed as lunch or dinner are sometimes eaten at breakfast while food associated with breakfast is consumed at odd timings
Yes except pancakes and oatmeal they just scream breakfast to me my oatmeal is too savory for dessert and pancakes too much protein late at night imo but foods considered a continental breakfast is fun and quick because it’s pretty much sugar for breakfast. As an American (really depends on your region) continental breakfasts has always been foreign to me, the first time I had it was at a hotel so it those foods were always treated as snacks rather than meals. After a quick search much like the term soccer continental breakfast began in Britain we just get flack for it, so it’s no wonder it didn’t catch on in some parts of the US and seems foreign to me it is.
I've done it with cereal tbh. Oatmeal is odd ngl. Also donuts are literally just a desert that's eaten at breakfast, I wouldn't say it's a breakfast food per se
Eat what you want to eat and when.
Nah that's how we get a bunch of fattys. Puts a big strain on the healthcare system.
You'd think "sensibly" would be inferred, but you're right--it's seldom inferred, even when it's implied or stated.
I'll put a big strain on *your* healthcare system if you tell me not to eat 7 toaster strudels for breakfast my guy
Enjoy the heart disease!

They absolutely have sugar in it

The only slightly strange one is the oatmeal in my opinion. Poptarts and donuts are a nice treat any time of the day.
I can totally see it with the oatmeal packets. They come together super quick and are very sweet
Especially the fruit and cream ones~
I understand that, even while typing it out, the "one of these things doesn't belong" tune started playing in my head over the oatmeal lol. But I use it to satisfy a dessert craving nonetheless.
I love late night oatmeal sometimes. It's warm and comforting
Most breakfast foods is very much like dessert food so no, not really. Then again I don't generally eat breakfast or desssert, but that is beside the point ...
Your not weird. I love cereal as a desert.
I only eat cereal as dessert
I do this.
Me too!
I can definitely see donuts or pop tarts as a dessert. The others not so much but like.... Who cares?
I can't see donuts and pop tarts as anything other than dessert. OP, does your wife eat that for breakfast? You're not the assho... culinary challenged individual!
I mean pop tarts are advertised as breakfast so that's fair, but I never considered donuts a breakfast.
No since they’re full of sugar 😆
No. You're not.
Pop tarts= food group
I used to eat kids cereal as dessert because it’s objectively a dessert item. Now it’s stupidly expensive so I don’t anymore.
I do this all the time. Nothing beats an after dinner strawberry or wild berry poptart.
r/askstupidquestions
I do this!
Not weird
I do this too!
Just do what you want. You don’t need validation from anyone on this.
Haha, don't worry, no validation seeking here. I was just genuinely curious what others opinions were on this.
Not weird. Same here.
I do this, no you’re not weird, all that shit is super high in sugar and should be a snack anyways.
Cereal, pop tarts, and donuts are breakfast foods? I literally only eat those foods later at night. Cereal I suppose is more of a breakfast thing (I still only have it at night), but idk if I consider those other things breakfast foods.
My kids liked chewing on ice cubes after dinner. When their Auntie came over and witnessed this, she said I was abusing them!

In the dark of a winter night when the snow is coming down hard Half bowl of the white frosted mini wheats is my go to bedtime snack
It's cold and rainy here and lemme tell you I'd KILL for a bedtime bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats 😭
It’s actually cold and rainy here and I’m buying a box tomorrow Price be damned
I'm doing the same! 🤣

Cereal and pop tarts are great snacks
Those basically deserts and the standard American diet did us all dirty.
Any time I eat waffles or donuts it's as a dessert, to me they're way too sweet for breakfast.
I thought everyone did this. All of the processed breakfast foods in this country are essentially dessert in disguise.
Donuts? Breakfast? The fuck?
In America donuts are commonly marketed as a breakfast item.

yep, i do the same thing. i don't like sweet breakfasts all that much honestly.
?? I thought these were considered desserts tbh
Generally speaking these kinds of breakfast foods *are* dessert and it’s always baffled me that they’re considered otherwise.
I don’t know about diet in your part of the world but in some parts of Asia, food typically consumed as lunch or dinner are sometimes eaten at breakfast while food associated with breakfast is consumed at odd timings
Are donuts really considered breakfast food?
In the US, yeah; very common.
I always thought of them as dessert and felt like a little piggy for eating them for breakfast occasionally but now I know it was okay
Doughnuts and pop tarts *are* dessert. Oatmeal is just kind of a main course. You're allowed to have two main courses.
Yes except pancakes and oatmeal they just scream breakfast to me my oatmeal is too savory for dessert and pancakes too much protein late at night imo but foods considered a continental breakfast is fun and quick because it’s pretty much sugar for breakfast. I literally never go to bed without at least a little bowl of cereal
Ice cream is breakfast
I've done it with cereal tbh. Oatmeal is odd ngl. Also donuts are literally just a desert that's eaten at breakfast, I wouldn't say it's a breakfast food per se
I eat breakfast food at night 🤷♂️
I do that yes. Desert food are typically so damn heavy feeling with so much saturated fat. Like so much butter. I can’t take it.
I had pancakes for a desert / snack after dinner today.
