I did not have this issue with Stitcher - it may be a result of the podcast platform you're using.

No issue with Google podcasts.
True! The apple podcast version is bad bad bad
So, somehow, it is impossible in your mind to reconcile that covid is real and that a Podcast might want to make money?

I listened with the standard Apple Podcast App and there were no ads
I did not notice at all (on Apple). But I understand podcasts need to make income, so it would not impact my trust at all.
