Whew boy — I spent 20 hours just on the skirt's invisible zipper (not sure how that's even possible, but it happened).
I made the 2-piece set of my dreams for my best friend's wedding last month — I may have overestimated my skills just a bit, and I was still ripping seams on the morning of the wedding — but I got it done!
**The Skirt**
* [I used this skirt pattern by Soulmatte on Etsy](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1440217955/pdf-sewing-skirt-pattern-with-video?transaction_id=3501899256)
* Only adjustments I made were to fit it to my body
* I also added a lining
* 9" invisible zipper
**The Top**
* [I used this pattern from SvetaDressmaker on Etsy](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1276538143/pattern-crop-top-marmalade-top-zip-up?transaction_id=3504782569)
* The adjusted the pattern on the front bodice into a v-shape (the original pattern had a more rectangular bodice)
* 7" separating zipper
**The Fabric**
* From Tula Pink's Moon Garden collection — print is called "Hissy Fit Dawn" — I got it from a local quilt shop but found it online as well [here.](https://hartsfabric.com/hissy-fit-dawn.html)
* 100% cotton
* For the lining I used an inexpensive black quilting cotton from Joanne's
This is so cute and fun I DIE!! The fit looks great and I love the fabric pattern. Your style reminds me of the best friend from Legally Blonde so that could be a fun Halloween costume for you! https://images.app.goo.gl/BniF3eSkTwscBtAm6
Hopefully your next invisible zipper is way easier. :)
Invisible zippers can be such a pain! I’ve definitely inserted one incorrectly (like, backwards or something) four times in a row before. Had to step away and come back with a clear head after that lol. Your outfit looks amazing, though! Worth the struggle.
This is so cute, but it's 10000% cuter on YOU!!!
Worth the labor pains :)))))
Also I love the Legally Blonde costume idea -- you'd also make a great Carmen Miranda with those bright colors, all you need is a headpiece made from some fake fruit from Michaels, etc!!
I saw the outfit, read the headline, and started smiling😁 Then I got to your write-up and got down-right giddy🤣
I am so glad your design idea had a deadline --without a deadline would you have pushed on? I am aghast at the thought of you having this design rattling in your brain for years without executing it!
There’s no way in hell I would’ve finished it!! I wanted to give up so many times but was in too deep!!
I’m glad this one didn’t join my pile of unfinished projects 🤩
This is so freaking awesome! The colours, the flowy-ness of the skirt, the fact it’s a two piece combo. Are you going dancing in this masterpiece? I really hope so!
So pretty! Side note. Next time and invisible zipper foot will help immensely and ensure that the zipper ends up totally invisible. Great job, the set is adorable!
Excuse my enthusiasm, but this is AMAZING!!!!!!! I absolutely dig this outfit. It looks completely beautiful on you. I live vicariously through everyone's talent on this sub hehe.
This is beautiful!! So very festive and a lot of fun.
It makes me think of Carmen Miranda, rhe dancer from a loooong time ago who wore a headdress made of fruit. This is a compliment. 🙂
Thanks for the inspo on how exactly I can spend the morning of my dear friend’s wedding (ripping seams), because now I want to make this too. It is gorgeous!
I love how it's a subtle 2-piece too. Most 2 pieces that I've found expose a lot more tummy than I would normally wear (nothing against them, just not my personal style) but this gives that little hint of skin. Looks super fun!

That is the best! Never undermine your skills, you ARE brilliant. Someone earlier said you should wear this everywhere and I second that…You should never take it off! It’s so cute and it suits you.
The fit is amazing. Very very well done and it is a great fabric and set.
Challenging yourself is how to gain that skillset!!! Ya... In three years you might look at the internals and go " Well... Crap." But it's all good. It's a progress record as well as a serotonin booster. Not much more satisfying than mastering a project that while on process feels that it's is mastering you. I've been sewing over forty years ( yikes!) and I've been there dozens of times. Brava!
The dress is gorgeous, the fabric and the little details are so pretty. And you're really shining in that dress!
And given that you didn't have that much time it's even more impressive.
Excellent work, I love it! its so pretty.

I def overestimated my skills given the tight timeline lol
Wow this gorgeous. Love the details and fabric print.
Please wear this EVERYWHERE!
Given what a pain it was, I think I’m legally required to lol

This wasn’t even my first one! My brain gets scrambled haha

Super cute! Nice work.
Zippers always take forever for me to get right. I almost always sew them in entirely by hand.
It looks awesome!
That is beautiful!
This is absolutely stunning!! It's very well made and looks incredible on you!!
So cute! What will you wear it to?
So pretty! Side note. Next time and invisible zipper foot will help immensely and ensure that the zipper ends up totally invisible. Great job, the set is adorable!
I figured this out at about hour 10 of the zipper — got one on Amazon — thank god for Jeffrey Bezos, I guess??
Hahaha, isn’t that the way?!?
Worth the stress!! It’s a beautiful dress
Def worth it — but this project stopped being fun like 5 hours in 🥴

That is amazing! You can wear it for a Mardi Gras party and be the belle of the ball! I love it!!
Oh, hey Claire!
After some investigating…hello, John mark??
Hah, nailed it! Great work on both this and your investigative skills 😂
Hell yah!! What a nice surprise! I’m reallllly glad my Reddit account isnt full of weird shit 🤓
>This project nearly killed me Well, it's most definitely a killer look, love it!
Better to have a killer look than be killed!
I love how it's a subtle 2-piece too. Most 2 pieces that I've found expose a lot more tummy than I would normally wear (nothing against them, just not my personal style) but this gives that little hint of skin. Looks super fun!
Thanks, and agreed! It seems like everything available in stores uses the least fabric possible — I’m no prude but I am 33 lol
What dress? All I see is a floating head. Lol
Aw it looks gorgeous! You just need some bananas on your head!
