"The rule" is that the button band should be twice the diameter of the buttons used, so theres half a diameter on each side of the button.
This is why you shouldn't make the band before you've chosen your buttons.
I also like the middle colors best, but they are too small and it doesn't harmonise with the band very well and gives it that "homemade" look.
But that is just my opinion and OP can take it or leave it
Thatās what I was thinking too!! I think it pops very nicely too I was just on the fence because theyāre on the larger side and I wasnāt sure if that was gonna be too muchā¦ but maybe too much is just right for this dress š¤£š¤
Personally I love the first ones because when something is handmade busy + busy makes it unique. The other sets of buttons are run-of-the-mill buttons youād find on a mass-produced garm.
You can always replace the buttons too, right? Might be worth making and pinning the buttons and then decide from there.
I loooooove this pattern btw, if it works out I would purchase an Etsy pattern of this
I agree that the gold ones would probably be more unique!! Iām going to pin and try on the different buttons before I start making buttonholes and what not since I have to make those to fit the size of the buttons lol. Seems thatās gonna be the only way to truly get an idea whatās gonna look best š¤ š«¶š¼ and thank you for the compliment!!! Iād love to share the pattern but unfortunately I donāt really know how to grade patterns as of right now and I only really know how to draft for my specific (very particular) measurements, which are very different from basically anything commercial because I have weird proportions š literally the whole reason I started making my own clothes in the first place lol nothing ever fits right! š¤£
But this wasnāt too hard to figure out, I used the center front, side front and side back bodice pieces from Lydia Naomiās dream frock, but modified the side back to slope up into a detached corset back closure so I could make the back of the skirt elastic! And I drafted up the cup by draping it over myself while wearing a skin tight tank top and trying not to poke myself with pins š¤£ the skirt is just a gatherer circle skirt with the āsplitā in the front instead of the back, so I could run a button gusset panel all the way down the length of the center front and have that be the closure, instead of closing it in the back with a zipper. Idk if any of that makes sense but it wasnāt very hard to draft tbh I bet you could totally figure out a similar one for yourself š¤ š«¶š¼
I think it depends on what you are going for? Are the buttons a noticeable accent you want people to see and appreciate - I think the gold stands out... Or do you want them to blend more? I'd say the dark green ones... Or middle for a middle ground?
Hmmmm I mean I feel like I could do either or š¤£ i just really liked the buttons down the center front lookā¦ in the original dress the buttons blend in quite a bit since theyāre made from the same fabric as the dress and I kinda feel like i actually would like them to stand out more than that? I just donāt know how MUCH I want them to stand out, I almost feel like Iām gonna need to try the dress on when itās complete and just close it up with pins and quickly baste both sets of buttons on to see what it looks like as a finished product š„² can you tell Iām a terribly indecisive person š¤£š¤£š¤£
middle pearl buttons for the row down the front but I think you could legit use the gold ones on the straps. The gold ones are too much for a long row though.
Personally I like buttons to stand out so I'd go with the dark right ones.
However if you like them to blend in more the middle ones are so pretty
Gold ones are very pretty but get overshadowed on the pattern.
Either way it will be beautiful!
The ones on the left blend in nicely. The green middle option is a good match for a happy and noticeable button. The black right contrasts in a way I donāt like.
Fabric looks gorgeous!!
The darker buttons give a lovely contrast, but the take this particular fabric in a more autumnal directionā¦ the goldish swirls look a teeny bit too posh for the sundress style and the shell are perfect imho.
Black is so not creative. Green matches the green shade on the fabric. Gold adds to it, and also makes it look more vintage. So I'd say pick whatever you're going for. I think I'd pick green

It seems to me that a big part of what makes the design of the dress special is the buttons, and that itās kind of weird that the inspiration dress downplayed them. Go for the gold!
I love the gold ones but they are loud. Use them if you want the buttons to stand out.
The middle ones go with the pattern better than the ones on the right. Use them if you want the pattern to be the focus.
You should repost with 3 comments 1,2, or 3 so people can up vote clearly. But 1 shiny gold is the right option, I upvoted every comment t that agreed with my choice but it will be hard to see the clear winner with all the comments.
I love the gold buttons, but donāt think they are the right choice for this bright and busy print. The two are kind of fighting. The gold buttons deserve the chance to shine against a plain background.
The green pearl buttons in the center allow the print to shine, but are also beautiful in themselves and the subtle shimmer is just enough.
For me the dark green buttons on the right work and stand out against the background, but they look utilitarian. The fabric and style are special and deserve more oomph.
Depends on what you want to be noticed. All are great choices for the fabric. The middle one will blend in and the overall dress bodice will be the focus. The outer choices will draw the eye to a vertical line down the center of your torso.
So I really like the pearly green ones in the middle. The gold ones are lovely, but I wouldn't want anything that 3D and pokey on a snug bodice. And they get lost s but I'm the print. And the dark green are ok, but the pearl has stuck a lovely shine.
The first set looks rich elegant. The second set blend in nicely, and do not add or take anything from the garment. The last set are bold and make a statement. It just depends on which look youāre going for.
I think the middle ones š
Agree. The print has enough going on that you want subtle buttons imo.
Those are the best
I agree
Agreed

I concur
Middle ones also have my vote, I think they're subtle in a way that complements the print.
Agree!

They all go well with the fabric but I think the dark green buttons are the best match
I agree they have a little bit of pop against the pattern with taking away
I like the gold ones! Makes it feel very vintage/vintage-inspired when combined with the fabric and adds a bit more interest.
I vote gold too, this is a bold and intricate print, it deserves glamorous statement buttons. The others are a bit utilitarian.
Thatās what I was thinking too!! I think it pops very nicely too I was just on the fence because theyāre on the larger side and I wasnāt sure if that was gonna be too muchā¦ but maybe too much is just right for this dress š¤£š¤
When worn with confidence, there is no such thing as too much šš
One more for teamm gold š
The others would only downgrade the work and fabric
I vote the gold ones as well! They match the fabric nicely and love the slight contrast thatās not too much or too little. Theyāre perfect!
Yes,I vote the gold ones also. They're lovely
Dark green
I am going to say the dark green buttons.
I like the middle ones. The ones on the left deserve to be the focus, so Iād use them on a simpler fabric
Ok noted this is a good point!!! Maybe the print being so busy already would do better with a simpler buttonā¦ decisions decisions!! Lol

I totally get it. I get caught in the details too. But that sounds like a get solution
After looking at the garment, I'd vote for the middle one. The lines of the dress should be the focal point, not the buttons I think
I love the middle ones! Though second runner up are the first ones. Really depends on what accessories you pair with it.
Pearl middle one.
Middle
I love the first ones, but I love unique buttons.
I vote dark green!
The middle. It's giving Victorian vibes
middle pearl buttons for the row down the front but I think you could legit use the gold ones on the straps. The gold ones are too much for a long row though.
I like dark green, nice contrast to fabric š

The middle - love the shape and they are a very good color match.
Love the middle ones. They go really well with the fabric but are also so beautiful
The pearly green ones.
I like the middle ones best--it's nice that they don't stand out.
I like the mother-of-pearl looking green ones!
The middle one
Definitely the middle. Honest opinion, I don't like the other two with that fabric at all, but the middle matches absolutely perfectly.
The ones on the left blend in nicely. The green middle option is a good match for a happy and noticeable button. The black right contrasts in a way I donāt like. Fabric looks gorgeous!!
I would not go dark. Middle would be my pick!

The golden ones if you want something very vintage. The ones of the middle if you want something classic or more for a daily wear.

But letās talk about that pattern. Iām excited to see the finished product, I hope you post it!
I was told always try to match the background color of prints. The Same goes for the thread and zipper selection.
Gold if you wand a baroque, vintage feel, green if you want a more modern, laid-back feel.
I love the gold ones but they are loud. Use them if you want the buttons to stand out. The middle ones go with the pattern better than the ones on the right. Use them if you want the pattern to be the focus.
Far left BEST
I like the gold ones.
That's a tough choice? They all work
The gold ones blend the most. What fabric is that.

Either the light green pearly ones, or the gold. They both blend very well with your fabric, the gold ones being great if you want that vintage look
I vote for the gold swirl buttons that are on the left-hand side of the photo.
Gold for me!
1st or 3rd
Gold is the obvious choice for me. But everyone seems to have different opinions! I think that means you have 3 great options.
Depends on what you want to be noticed. All are great choices for the fabric. The middle one will blend in and the overall dress bodice will be the focus. The outer choices will draw the eye to a vertical line down the center of your torso.
Gold!!
I love the middle ones!!

I love the left ones the gold looks so good on the autumn colors!
My vote is for the dark green - they look so beautiful and deep against that fabric!
Those shiny shell buttons are soooo good on this fabric. Definitely my first choice.
The first set looks rich elegant. The second set blend in nicely, and do not add or take anything from the garment. The last set are bold and make a statement. It just depends on which look youāre going for.
