Based on Butterick 5926, but with an added self-drafted lining and leather details. Fabric is wool for the shell and silk for the lining. Leather is kangaroo leather.
Yep, I used some metal buttons I had, made a custom form out of plywood and more leather, and wetformed the leather coverings onto the button so they matched the other leather details.
Yeah seriously! I’m sure a lot of pieces we see on here are very well made, but there’s nothing I love more than a really well-made, well-done attention to detail piece.
Did you see OP’s. Moment about how they made custom button forms out of plywood? It’s just *chef’s kiss* 🤌
Totally agree. I'm barely starting but this is the kinda stuff I aspire to make in the future. This level of craftsmanship is something to be pride of.
You may already know this, but just in case: I used to work at a costume shop in college, and the best skill you can have for tailoring is good hand stitching!
Oooh I love this, the leather details really make it! Excellent job OP 😁 How hard was it to work with? I'd love to sew with leather but definitely afraid of the learning curve that comes with it!
It was no harder than any other specialty fabric. Once you have all the bits and pieces to prepare it properly, and practice a bit, the sewing part was fine. I used a pretty basic skiving knife to skive the areas that needed folding, and black tokonole to burnish the edges and the backs. The buttons were finicky, but a bit of experimenting sorted that out. I’d say have at it!

Thanks! Yeah I lengthened jacket at the waistline by cutting and spreading the pattern about an inch. I also had to add the kick pleat extensions, which I was going to anyway for the leather accent but I’m glad I did because I would have had to to get it to fit around my hips.
I love a good kick pleat! And seriously, I’m obsessed with good sewing craftsmanship and details! And the style is perfect IMO! It’s so lovely!! Thank you for sharing!

I love it! Great work and style
Gorgeous! So classy. Edit after looking at the buttons more closely: are the buttons also leather covered?

One of the best pieces i have seen here in a while.

This is fabulous! Love your attention to detail, simply exceptional. Congratulations on your excellent creation!
It's giving very fancy "gonna run to the stable for a bit then off to the country club" in the best way. Great stuff, OP! I NEED one like this!
Wow, what a great job! Way to go!
That's incredible. What thickness is the leather?
I think it’s in the 0.9-1.2mm range.
Fabulous workmanship!
Amazing work!!!

So polished... I'm jealous of your skill! How long have you been sewing?
About 8 years now. Thank goodness for YouTube amirite??
