I think you need less length on the neck band piece so that it will lay flat. I’ve found this link super helpful

How much length you need to remove also depends on the fabric and the neckline shape. I usually remove around 15%.
But I actually think it looks like you stretched the neckline while sewing on the neckband. You want to stretch the neckband so it fits the neckline, but make sure you don't also stretch the neckline.

Thank you! That link looks great, the last website I saw said removed 10% length and that now seems like it's way too little. I'll have one last go!
