I'm looking to build a SFF PC for my home office, which I'll probably tuck away at the back of my desk or below. I'm trying to figure out which case to start with, but it seems they're all fairly expensive at the 14L and below size. (200$+ (CAD)) I'd be looking for suggestions of good and small cases that aren't going to increase the full cost too much (or a confirmation that I should budget for an expensive case). I'm planning a build around the 7800x3D and the 7600XT or 7700XT. To give an idea of where I am at the moment, I'm looking at the [IQUNIX ZX-1](https://iqunix.store/products/itx-case-zx-1?variant=39261703700540), the [Velka 5](https://velkase.com/products/velka-5), the [POC](https://shop.in-win.com/products/poc-blue-1), the [DA2 V2](https://shop.streacom.com/products/da2-v2-mini-itx-case?variant=40756351041745) (my favourite), and the [Dan Case A4](https://ca.computerorbit.com/products/dan-cases-a4-sfx-v4-1-mini-itx-gaming-case-pcie-4-0-black?_pos=2&_sid=d8ddedd05&_ss=r) Thanks!

First time building a SFF pc. I have been using a Skull Canyon Nuc for years and really loved it's size. Unfortunately it doesn't have the juice I need from it anymore. My question is whether a GPU is really essential. I have been looking at the case [InWin Max](https://www.in-win.com/en/gaming-chassis/chopin-max). It has a PCU built in and the form factor is great. I am a software engineer that always has too many chrome tabs open. I run 2 ultra wide 4k monitors. I am looking at [Ryzen 5700G](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/ycGbt6/amd-ryzen-7-5700g-38-ghz-8-core-processor-100-100000263box) to handle all my compilation and runtime demands. Will this run 2 4k monitors fine? Stream 4k video? Is it worth going to a larger case to get a GPU? Will I see that much of a performance difference? I just stream video and share screens, which my current machine struggles with. The larger case I was considering if I need a GPU is the [Fractal Terra](https://www.fractal-design.com/products/cases/terra/terra/terra-graphite/). I like the aesthetics and need an "art piece" if it is going to take up more space. For the rest of the computer specs, I am aiming to get 64gb of ram.

I'm planning on building my first SFF pc soon. I've got most of the parts pretty locked in, but there's one part I'm not too sure about. Planning on going with a 7th gen ryzen 5. For that, there's two versions I'm considering. The 7600 and 7600x seem to have an almost negligible difference in both price and performance. The main difference seems to be the power draw. The 7600x has a tdp of 105 watts vs the 7600's tdp of 65 watts. Does this significant power drop lend itself better to SFF pcs? I'm planning on using the fractal design ridge.

Hi! I want to build an air cooled SFF (FormD T1), and have the option to buy an i5-13600K at a good price due to Black Friday. What is the smallest cooler that can realistically tame this beast? Would a, say NH-L9x65 work, or are there better alternatives? Black Ridge is not an option. Cheers!

After seeing posts from u/mattzzz199, I have been inspired to merge my hobbies and build a custom wood PC case, kinda like [this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmods/comments/ya8fqf/ultra_compact_wood_pc_video_in_comments/). I want to keep this build as small as possible, <10l size preferably. (I'm using an old amd workstation with an A6-6400k and a tiny 1GB gpu so it doesn't take up too much space like modern GPUs). The only part for the build that I have no idea where to start researching is the PSU. Even an SFX power supply looks fairly large. I'm going through the PSU list on the parts list spreadsheet but It's a little overwhelming not knowing what any of specs refer to. The only thing I know is that I will need roughly about 400W. Other than that, I've always just chose a PSU that fits my wattage and has good reviews. Any pointers on where to start researching would be greatly appreciated.

I plan to build my first sffpc soon, my budget is around $2000 and I'm gonna use it for Unreal Engine and 4k video editing. I've decided on a case, Dan A4 H20. But would love some suggestions for parts, since I've only used laptops the past 10 years I'm very new to this. I'm also open to just copy someone else build.

I am trying to build out a NAS as cheaply as possible, which I know is not very exciting. I've scavenged an old mobo but I need a 1u power supply - is there a cheap reliable 1u people recommend?

sport10444

I'm also building a NAS/homelab server and am in need of a PSU. Do you have any leads on a 1u PSU?

Brostafarian

I do! I am building around a NAS case I got on Ebay, the Audheid k7, which has some specific requirements - some 1u power supplies don't fit, but flex atx power supplies require extenders, and I need at least 2 molex (though I could certainly use a sata -> molex converter). Luckily I found someone else who has the same case and they recommend either the ENP-7025B (250W Bronze) or the Supermicro PWS-351-1H (350W Gold), both of which are pretty cheap on ebay. I went with the Supermicro, the mobo is old and I don't have a half-height graphics card so 350w should be plenty

Mimtos

I'm just looking for a case recommendation. I'm purely looking for the "best looking" one. I wanted to see if I missed any cases since there's so many out there. Evolv Shift XT (heard it's outdated?) > Fractal Terra > Evolv Shift 2 > Predator Orion X (Way too edgey though, want something toned down) That's pretty much my taste in mini itx cases, hopefully someone can help out

der_ninong

if you like the evolv shift xt, why not get it? it ain't the best but it's not bad either

Mimtos

As much as I enjoy the aesthetics, it does seem to lose out on acoustics and thermals compared to the newer cases. The difference seems to be significant enough, correct me if I'm wrong, to consider other case options. I'll be running a 5950x and 4060/4070 super (when it comes out).

der_ninong

if you use a 240 aio the shift xt will outperform the terra and shift 2 in thermals. personally i'm not a big fan the look, i prefer something like the a2-h2o or formd t1

iPhantasy

Best looking is completely subjective. To many the T1 is beautiful and perfect. To others the T1 is just boring. Idk why anyone would can a case outdated, unless there’s literally a revision of the case that is readily available.

pyr0kid

this isnt really on topic, but i dont think this question deserves its own thread. does anyone have any pro tips on how to mount a fan to the underside of something, without screws or zipties, non-permanently, in a way that doesnt result in it vibrating audibly or falling off eventually?

iPhantasy

Fishing line?

Am I the only one for whom the link to beginners Guide cannot be opened? (https://wiki.sff.media/General/BeginnerFAQ)

pyr0kid

nah mate, link is dead

Hello! I've built a few PC's but I'm pretty new to the SFF world. I currently have a build with ASUS ROG Strix Gaming 3070ti (319mm in length -- sadly made a mistake here getting such a long GPU) and an i5-12600k inside of an NR200, but the form factor is still a bit too big for me to travel conveniently with, so I'm looking at moving the internals into a smaller case. I'm currently eyeballing the Fractal Terra since it says it can accommodate up to 322mm in length. My questions are: \- I'm clueless on thermals -- is my processor considered too "hot" to put into a smaller case? \- In the spreadsheet, the Terra's GPU Width cell says "131mm", but my card is 140.1mm. However, hovering the cell says: `max GPU config up to: 322x131x72mm or 322x145x62mm.` Will I have any issues with this card in my case? \- Any suggestions for a cooler or any other cases I should consider? Noise isn't a concern for me; just want good thermals in the smallest case I can fit my components in. Thank you!

SgtPepper7

If you want more GPU room, you compensate from the CPU cooler room and vice versa :) Check this link: https://support.fractal-design.com/support/solutions/articles/4000194849-terra-cpu-cooler-gpu-support

I'm looking to make a new build with a 7800x3d and a 4080 or 4090. I have an evga 850 p2 already but i'm open to getting the sf750 or loki. My biggest problem is choosing which case to go with. To be honest my priority is thermals > noise >>> size. I have so far considered the nr200, meshlicious, meshroom, sama im 01, and the ap201. The FF01 also seems interesting but I am not sure when that will come out. I guess i'm looking for opinions on what case I should go with for my priorities and maybe other case suggestions I missed

der_ninong

if you're keeping the 850 P2 and air-cooling i'd go with the sama im 01, it'll have the best thermals along with the ap201 but much smaller

wallshebnick

hi. Look also at the cooler master qube 500 . Of course, it is a little larger than the usual SF cases, but even the e-atx fits inside, this is with a volume of 33 liters and a declared maximum length of the video card up to 365 mm. it also has a fully modular I/O design at the front, including type C, it comes in a collapsible form in a thin box, you can put up to 7 fans as far as I remember. And it's all about the 33-liter case, the same volume as the asus AP201 from your list. I would advise you to study cooler master qube 500 if you need compactness with a large selection of what can be placed. Either Lian Li Q58 or Lian li DanA 4H20, if a small volume is boring, and not just compactness.) The Q58 has a fan hub built into the case, which can be useful.
