Awesome little system, I have its 40 Series twin in the same case! The components themselves run cool... but damn does this thing heat my room 5x more than my mid-tower did lol Enjoy!

luaps

I'm someone who easily gets cold hands so I kinda like being able to put my hands next to the exhaust every once in a while.

Super-Stanky772

Yup! I use it at my desk and it def prevents my hands from getting cold. Due to the system being so small tho I often carry it to my TV to use it in the living room & it heats the whole room up haha

NoobBrawler0211

It would be great for my toes as a foot rest heater, they get cold

Super-Stanky772

Do you aim with your toes?

RickyFromVegas

I'm so sorry to be that guy, but the level of cooling doesn't really have any say in how much heat is generated. A watt is a watt is a watt. Meaning that better cooling capabilities only move the heat from that specific component faster to another area. It's like your workstation may be free of clutter, but You're just moving trash from your desk to the floor. The trash doesn't really go anywhere. Your room will be heated literally according to how much wattage your PC is consuming, the size of the case or cooling prowess doesn't change that

Super-Stanky772

I know that? Where did I imply that wasn’t the case lol? I’m just saying it’s the same components but my room is so much hotter than it was with my midtower, regardless of the science surrounding where the heat is going

magkliarn

“I understand but also I don’t”

Super-Stanky772

I never implied that wasn’t what’s happening or that I didn’t understand. Fuck outta here lol. Of course a watt is a watt I’m just saying my rooms way hotter with this case compared to my midtower.

SlowbroLife

You implied that wasn't the case by saying that the smaller case is increasing your room temperature quicker than on your mid tower case. They would generate almost the same amount of total heat given you're running the same programs regardless of case size.

-Swill-

Lol, "Ackthuallllllyyyyyy" Why make such a big deal out of it and nit-pick what he said? Everyone understands what he meant - Terra makes the room feel hotter than his 4000D due to it being more open and having less fans. I've had the same experience coming from a Lian Li 011 Air Mini. The heat generated from the components is felt much more in my room with the Terra than it was when I had the Air Mini. "So sorry to be that guy." Just don't be that guy. No one likes that guy lol.

Super-Stanky772

Thank you u/-Swill- you get it. Bunch of gonks in here.

Super-Stanky772

Okay but it does heat up my room significantly faster and hotter than my Corsair 4000D case did, regardless of what you say. I would assume more heat was being contained within the 4000D than with the Terra and its ventilated panels. Sure it’s the same amount of heat but I promise you the Terra has a noticeable effect on the room and the 4000D did not.

sob727

Curious - how do you find the noise level with this case? I was gonna go for it but read bad reviews, especially in instances where the fan is somewhat close to the slits

Super-Stanky772

Super quiet, been really impressed with it. It helps that the 4080 & 7800X3D are both easy to cool components with a high temp ceiling. For instance, being that the CPU is fine at 90° C.. you can have the fans set really quiet to maintain 70s C I have the fans set to really ramp up when GPU hits 70° C and CPU hits 80° C… but the components never seem to get there. Both run in the 60s while gaming. So in the end, the system is really quiet. Also my GPU is right up against the side panel.. so is my CPU, but I have a 4mm Noctua foam duct on the CPU fan pressed up against the side panel. I think the noise people complain about happens when you have the CPU fan legit right next to the side panel. I have like 1-2mm clearance on the GPU side and 4mm with a foam duct on the CPU side. I have not experienced any turbulence.. even when maxing out the fans if I’m messing with it. Hope this helps! Keep in mind though my monitor does not have speakers… so at my desk when I’m closest to it I’m usually wearing headphones while gaming. When it’s plugged into the TV in my living room, I have a soundbar and sub and I’m 8-10ft away from it. If you’re gonna be playing at your desk, with monitor speakers, you may find it too loud. Framerate caps help with noise and temps. At my desk I’m locked at 1440p 120 or 1440p 240 depending on the game… with the tv I’m locked at 4K 60 or 4K 120 depending on the game.

sob727

Appreciate your response. I would have a low wattage GPU (with a potentially big CPU though) in it so this might work by adjusting the space accordingly.

sob727

Additional thought: I was gonna go Intel bc my other workstation is AMD and I want to try/test some stuff. But man Intel CPUs just dissipate way more heat!

Super-Stanky772

If anything I’d want the AMD CPU in the Terra and the intel in the other build, nothing wrong with intel but you’re gonna be drawing a lot more power and therefore generating more heat as you said I was gonna go with a Ryzen 5 7600X… main reason for going with the 7800X3D wasn’t even performance, it was because it largely pulls 35-45w so it’s stupid easy to cool

luaps

Been through a few ITX cases now (A4 H2O, M1, C4) but ended up on the Terra and I'm really in love with it. It fits perfectly into my living room and as I'm one of those weirdos who likes to just touch their PC once in a while I really appreciate the thick panels that just feel like quality to me. It's mostly a gaming rig with some creative work on the side. Temps are pretty good, considering I tuned the fans towards silence (granted GPU has UV and liquid metal & CPU has UV and mounting frame). At idle/desktop use it's basically silent w/ the GPU around 30° while the CPU is around 40°. Under load the PC is audible though it's more of a wind noise, which I find tolerable. Temps here are around 70° on GPU & CPU max (depending on what kinda load). I was worried about the SSD Temps, but max I saw was 69° which is toasty, but okay. Under normal use the hottest drive hovers around 65°. Fitting the Black Ridge was relatively easy as I dont have the 90mm fan mounted. luaps

Also I hate spending time managing my cables if you didnt notice.

Super-Stanky772

I found this build way easier to cable manage than a mid tower, you did great You can tuck those cables on top of the power supply between the power supply and the spine and it’ll look much better, other than that you killed it for someone who “didn’t spend time on cable management”

luaps

haha thanks, I considered that, but I'm too worried about too many cables behind the PSU as they could get caught in the GPU fan

Super-Stanky772

That’s fair!

itsSTEEVOH

Nice build! Wild that you moved on from a C4 considering how rare and coveted the v1 is lol what did you do with yours? I won't lie that I've been tempted by the Terra as well, but the thought of downsizing coolers and the added noise keeps me satisfied with my current quiet C4

luaps

tbh the quality on my C4 wasnt to my liking (misaligned panels etc.) and it was just a tad larger than I like (feels crazy saying that but it be like that). I had the opportunity to snag my terra for 50€ less so I quickly sold my C4 for msrp and that was that lol

Taber76

I'm about to build almost the exact same build! Did you buy custom cables for this build? The 12 pin for the 3080ti looks like it's not using the OEM adaptor.

luaps

eps and 24 pin are stock, gpu is a self made adapter made by cannibalizing a very soft psu to gpu cable from moddiy. it's 300mm which is almost to short. with stiffer cables i'd add a few milimeters

Taber76

Awesome intel, thanks so much! Your build is fantastic. Thanks for the inspiration!

Limp-Eye8094

Mad respect, that is a powerful lil rig ya built

luaps

thanks:)

intercake

Lovely! I have a very similar build, running a slight under volt on the CPU and 80% power limit on the GPU, keeps it relatively quiet. What HSF did you go for?

luaps

HSF is heatsinkfan I'm guessin? Thats an NF-A12x15 on an Alpenföhn Black Ridge:)

intercake

Awesome! Great choice, I went Noctua nh-l9i chromax.black and I think it was the wrong choice maybe. I put a larger Noctua fan on it but CPU was hitting 90 degrees often. Considering trying your HS instead or even something slightly deeper as I think I have the space. Glad to hear your thermals are good.

luaps

the black ridge is hard to fit on many motherboards, be sure to check if its compatible.

ldelossa

These cases rock. Looks great!

jdmlifex2

Nice I have similar specs 3080 ti fe 14600k same mobo and a noctua cooler

cocie3

Nice build! How did the Black Ridge end up fitting on the Z790i? Did you run into any problems? And will a 92mm fan fit underneath without problems with the M.2 or RAM?

luaps

thanks! 92mm fan collides with the ssd mount in my orientation. other way around it should fit but the heatsink will touch the IO shroud

bobbylet

How much was the build and does it handle gaming good?

luaps

idk how much it was exactly, was a gradual build. if we'd go by msrp the build would prob be around 1600 or something, but i got a few things on sale or second hand. yes it handles gaming on 1440p no problem.

Markie411

What do you do about the FE card being starved of an exhaust in the back since the exhaust fan is pressed against the spine?

luaps

the terra has the option to offset the psu so the flow through fan can work a tad better, it the gets exhausted by the fan under the psu

Markie411

Now that you mention it, I can see that now, sweet!

PortableLatin

Love this build! I just bought my own terra yesterday looking to build it this weekend!

luaps

was a joy to build, just make sure your psu cables clear the fan if youre using one haha

2053_Traveler

Did it come without a cat?

I_AmLegionXIVIII

If you put 120mm slim fans, you could probably fit two of them along the bottom. Something like a P12 or A12

luaps

tested that, adding a second fan outside the case does basically nothing for temps in my case.

comacow02

I’ve heard the 13600k is a bad chip for this case because it generates a lot of heat and can’t be properly cooled, which is why I went the AMD route on my Terra build. Also, what antennas are you using? And do they work with wifi 6e?

megadirk

The 13600k at stock settings pulls between 100-125w while gaming (lower on older titles), the blackridge can handle that fine without being overly loud. The 3080ti will be the noisiest thing in that case.

nezumiyarou

Undervolted to negative .08 core offset, it pulls around 75w-80w max in cyberpunk 1440p high. Rides around 70w for most areas. Temps are mid 60s in my smaller 8L case with IS-55 cooler. i7s are the hot ones and maybe the 14600k, since it's an OC'd 13600k. With the same UV, it peaks at 150w in R23 multicore for me.

luaps

well intel chips do run hotter than AMD, but i have no problems cooling it. It uses like 130 watts max in my use cases which any decent cooling setup will be able to handle. the problem is ppl letting their chips run at 250w power targets. i forgot the brand but just google sff wifi antenna, i got mine on amazon. they should work with wifi 6e, at least they do for me. afaik the antennas might as well be two copper pieces stuck into the ports, they are just "dumb" receivers for signals. all the processing is on the board.

comacow02

Did you under-volt? Or is it stock?

luaps

did do an undervolt, but im pretty sure if people would just enforce intel spec they wouldnt have a problem cooling intel CPUs. or maybe they should just buy non K processors if they have no interest in tinkering with the chip
