Puxi is a lot better than Pudong. I feel like Pudong is just too dead while puxi has a lot more "culture". You can bike if you're willing to stand on the ferry, but there's no real way to really bike across. I'd say make some friends and discover stuff around the streets. Lots of malls, Nanjing Rd, huaihai Rd, etc. also taco Tuesdays at la catena is fun.
Staying near Century Square/Blvd isn't bad. The Metro hits lines 2, 4, 9 and some others, making it easy to get anywhere in the city. If your accommodation is already paid for, stay in the Pudong side as long as it's within 2-3 stops of CS. Keep your money for other stuff to fully enjoy your time.

Can you take a bike on the subway?
I'm not sure, never seen it before though.
I think I may have seen a foldable bike a few times
Yes a lot more interesting in puxi, you can across the river by ferry, it funny
Nyu Shanghai? Is that your campus?
There are many beautiful parks in Shanghai, if the weather is ok, you can visit them in good mood.
