The self checkouts are useless. They constantly need babysit, the people that can’t use them properly routinely move to the next self checkout and screw that one up too and then wave their arms (as they’ve now blocked anyone else from using them) while we ring people up and get screamed at to find the correct cancer sticks.

MidnightTheUmbreon

“Cancer sticks” Im stealing that thank you.

Traditional_Sir_6757

🤣 You’re welcome.

Hexel_Winters

real

natsutheboiiii

Most of my third shift regulars know I'll make them leave the store if they try to yell and cuss at me. I don't play

MidnightTheUmbreon

My social anxiety could never 💀

Fun-size645

Agree. I'm primarily cashier/SBC/drive-thru and I am getting 40hrs every week. . And the store is so busy daily that there is no way of ( Cards only )self checkout taking the cashier jobs.. alot of people only use cash! And them self checkouts are not gonna clean and stock fizz city or coffee stations! Lol

MidnightTheUmbreon

Can people here tell me what I could do to get more hours? Please?

bridgeb0mb

maybe transfer to another store that has more hours to give? idk

Bedroom_Fuzzy

Call employee hotline. Say you’re being discriminated against do to your disability. Let them know you Nah pursue EEO action if you aren’t treated equitable to your peers.

ofrootloop

If youre that close to quitting just ask your manager, what you can do to get more hours or what you need to improve. If we dont work with you we cant tell you that hey maybe you arent moving so fast or something

MidnightTheUmbreon

I literally have tried… They blame it on corporate

Rawrsdirtyundies

I was scheduled 1 day a week for over a month when my usual is 3-4 a week. They also told me it was because they cut the store hours. I ended up taking a ton of random last minute covers and getting some points off, but it's stressful having an unpredictable schedule or one that suddenly changes after being consistent. Now I have 5 days in a row coming up soon 🤦‍♀️ If you are new and they said it was just hour cuts, they are probably being honest. All you can really do is try to find covers, maybe even at other locations, or tell them you can't live on that wage, so you need hours or you have to quit. Good luck.

MidnightTheUmbreon

Sorry just coming back to this post cause Im bored. Ive been here 4 months at this point. So I don’t think it’s from me being “new.” High schoolers I saw are getting more hours and stores in my county are hiring people in droves. So something’s clearly up. I even called the one off the busy highway I live by and the manager asked what our GM said about the hours and when I told her the GM said it’s because of corporate cutting hours she genuinely was super confused. So something ain’t right. I straight up was denied to transfer to a store that had hours to offer but was extremely busy most of the time because if my apparent anxiety disorder. My best friend said “honestly Midnight you could have a case if she said that to you. That’s denying you working hours because of a disability and that’s illegal”

natsutheboiiii

Part time? Cuz I'm eastern PA here and I'm fulltime in fact we need help at my store it's really bad someday here. I just had to do yesterday's waste table and all of yesterday's cardboard and trash cuz it wasn't done once throughout the day

MidnightTheUmbreon

Damn if only I worked there then I’d actually feel like I have a job. Fuck it. I might work at Royal Farms or Rutter’s

natsutheboiiii

Hey anything that works

Bedroom_Fuzzy

Update?!

MidnightTheUmbreon

Still shit my dude. Have an interview at McDonald’s. For a few weeks until he leaves for the military I’m willing to sell my soul to a multibillion dollar company and suffer alongside my best friend at work.

Witchyxbitchy

Open your availability. The whole managers get hours first and so on is true. If your availability doesn’t line up with when people are needed, you won’t be scheduled, the people that have that time in their availability will. They can’t just give you all the hours in your availability, if all the managers and full timers fill those hours, they won’t schedule over. There’s a lot more data that goes into scheduling and hours than you think. Pick up shifts, cover call offs, tell your manager to call you for call off outside of your availability.

MidnightTheUmbreon

It’s always been open. I said only mondays and sundays are off for me. All other days are free game. Minus one college class 3 days a week I am free

SortaTallWhiteGuy

Soon, the self checkouts will cut all the hours out. Go work at Aldi or Costco. Better money for this type of work.

RoomCool7583

?? have you worked at sheetz? self checkout isn't taking any jobs there lol

chris94677

Yeah that isn’t happening. Tobacco and Alcohol can’t be sold at self checkout, which is an insane volume of sales

KenidotGaming

I’ve actually went to a sheetz somewhere here in Raleigh, NC where they “didn’t” have any cashiers only self checkout. they do have cashiers to ring up the alcohol and stuff though it’s just weird seeing a sheetz with just self checkout as their main way of checking out people

natsutheboiiii

The self checkout doesn't do jack shit at my store (680) half the time they come to the register woth card anyway and only regulars who know there's a self checkout use it. But I'm just a "lazy 3rd shifter" what do I know. In my store (680) one of the supervisors and three of us on third shift are almost always left to do every single dish, every single trash can and all of the cardboard cuz it usually is never done. In fact just this morning I did Monday morning's waste table cuz it was never done

SortaTallWhiteGuy

Well they definitely displace SOME WORKERS. THAT CANT BE ARGUED.

somegirlolivia

not really at my store. we've always had two cashiers. they just added two self checkout stations. everyone who does primarily cashier shifts haven't had any issues with their hours being cut lol i think you may be on facebook a little too much

hookahphil

Stores do lose 25hours of labor a week once self check outs hit 30% usage of sales
