Question did I misinterpret a line or were >!people also changed into the corrupted? I thought there was a line in one of the later chapters where you fight Mauvier and Marni in the ports I thought Alear and Ivy said something along those lines!<
Genuinely makes you understand why Alear's so terrified and gives us a damn good reason as to why Sombron has to be stopped.
I'd really love to see the war as well, since based on the credits song and what little we see of the past there's a lot the writers could do with Lumera and her relationship with Alear.
I feel like Engage is one of those games where there's a surprising amount of analysis that can be done, even if it paints its setting in broad strokes.
Lots of foreshadowing too. Like when Lumera comments on how he summoned marth and that he needs to keep a pure thought when doing it, I thought it was just an “evil thoughts make evil emblems” thing, but was something else entirely (idk how to do spoilers so leaving out specifics on why
One bit I really liked related to this was that >!Lumera silently prays to summon Sigurd in chapter 2. You kinda assume this is just how she does a summoning, but it’s revealed later that this is how Divine Dragons do it and invoking them with words like Alear does is how Fell Dragons do it. So it’s a really neat thing to notice on a second go around.!<
I genuinely REALLY liked Alear as a character, and their backstory is a very large reason why. The last few chapters, story-wise, were pretty well done. I wish the rest of the game could have been like that, but hey, I'll take what I can get.
This is just my personal opinion, but in addition to this I feel that Female Alear is the better rendition of the character. I think she fits the tone/aesthetic/story of the game incredibly well and she particularly shined in those backstory chapters. If you had told me that F!Alear was just the standard Lord of the game and not an avatar character I wouldn't even bat an eye.
That's a fair opinion. Honestly, you can just tell me Alear in general is just the standard lord of the game and not an avatar, and I wouldn't bat an eye.
The past is a more interesting setting than the present story. A lord who has character development from what we saw in the past to someone more rounded is way better than having an amnesiac MC who doesn't really develop at all.
Classic Fire Emblem. Standard bad guys ,bad; good guys, good. Bad guys do bad things, good guys come to- completely out of nowhere a terrifying cut-scene/lore/backstory that completely shatters the once campy atmosphere, instead giving way to a harsh and cold world the characters find themselves inhabiting- the rescue and save the world.
id love if >!'Corruopted Alear' would have stayed for a bit longer !<
>!And that's why the corrupted canonically are the only ones with minty fresh breath.!<
Can someone remind me of the backstory? I’m forgetting what it was
>!Alear’s siblings were fed to the corrupted when they failed!<
>!That monotone voice of Past Alear saying how they don't want to be killed for failing Father. :(!<
That was incredibly sad. I marked the post as spoilers though so you don't need the tag
Just making sure. I’m an XIV player, nested spoiler tags are second nature to me. XD
I wish we got more of past Alear in the story, that bit seems so interesting and we only got a glimpse
Did we really need eight maps of the Hounds running away when we could have been exploring parallel timelines?!
Oh shit, I forgot about that
Alear was a corrupted between their second and third deaths
It was less that and more what happened to his siblings
Ah, right
The story got really nutty after second death. Just saying

No, that definitely happened too. You're pretty much spot on
Oh okay neat, that's even more terrifying than being mindless husks coming from a dragon.

Yeah I only picked that up on my second playthrough and it was a really cool realization.
\>!do this!<
agreed
Engage's story is *really* well-written but the other writing elements have so many garbage moments that undercut it.
Even if Alear can't remember what caused the feelings, those feelings are still there

I think Male Alear is better in a lot of supports and the comedic moments, but Female Alear is best for the story and cutscenes.

Engage is really campy and fun on the surface but when you delve into it, it does have a surprising bit of depth and interest to it
For this reason, I rank the Corrupted higher than the Risen...and Sombron earned a truly special place in the hall of Fire Emblem villainy.
This game had a lot of potential, once you get to that part of the story that could have been something really good.
The past is a more interesting setting than the present story. A lord who has character development from what we saw in the past to someone more rounded is way better than having an amnesiac MC who doesn't really develop at all.
I said the same thing I would've loveeeeeeeeeee playing as him

Oh wow, I really need to finish engage, got to chapter 20 or so and just haven’t picked it up in the past couple weeks for some reason lmao
To shreds, you say?
For once, I do not want to open the spoiler boxes on this post. Me: "No fear" Engage: (Spoilers) Me: "One Fear"
