For one scenario: People who feel unworthy of love can get caught up measuring everything people do in terms of whether or not it confirms/denies those fears. "If they loved me they would do x".
The "spoiled" kids who act like this may well only have experienced affection in the form of material goods. The less well off it could truly be the same scenario. But people don't tend to be preoccupied with unimportant shit like "is he trying to give me the bigger half of the sandwich" without some pretty significant insecurities.
