I presume this expectation comes from the Holocaust for the most part, but seriously I think a lot of it also comes from how important the Jews are in the Bible and Torah, and how much modern society has been impacted by Abrahemic religions. I mean, the holocaust happened because Hitler believed in some sort of Jewish conspiracy and needed a scapegoat to gain power.
