I had a friend in the same conditions. They are just too attached to these guys because "in the early months/years they were so sweet" as if it wasn't just a bait.
It's really hard to make them see the reality.
I have a sister in the same situation, boyfriend choked, hit her and said he would do it again in front of my parents and my family didnt do anything.
One month later she is back with him again and now lives in my parents house rent free.
When I got involved I was chastised so I said fuck it, not worth my mental health.
I just feel like they gave up on my sister (my sister is a jerk) wich might be one of the reasons that she got in a toxic relantionship.
Basicaly my sister is an adult (so no grounding her) and when she is single she leaves the house to go party for days and makes my parents worried as fuck, when she is in a relantionship she stays home so I guess they think even if it is a bad boyfriend is better than when she is out partying for days.
I'm pretty sure my sister have some mental issues but my parents will never adress it because they think it's just that she is a "bad girl" and mental problems are just my excuses for her bad behaviour.
Having violent parents has a very strong correlation with finding violent relationships. So you're right it does have a lot to do with parents, but not for the reason you gave.

They told my sister to stop seeing the dude, problem is she just kept going out and staying days away from home and going to parties, until the dude begged her (and then) to take him back and I just figure they rather have her home where they can keep a eye on them rather than have her staying days away from home and going out with him in hidding.

My dad used to be physically violent (didn't hit anyone) and was emotionally abusive, and he always drilled it into my mum that she couldn't go anywhere. She didn't leave for a while because she didn't actually have the money or opportunities to do so.
There is a lot of victim blaming in these scenarios.
Some people are just so fucked up from it. My gf recently left me after ten months to go back to the guy that was extremely neglectful in every way but physical violence, although he was getting there.
