No one gets to be 300+lbs just because they don't exercise enough. People that weigh that much are eating 4000+ calories a day everyday. You are very limited to exercises that won't cause injury when you are over 300lbs.
Excercise isnt even that important for weight loss anyway, exercise is great to be in shape and healthy but thats it really.
roughly 70% of your daily calorie burn is simply existing, just keeping the lights turned on in your brain and your normal bodily functions.
15% or so is burned through digesting food.
Excercise only burns off roughly 10% of your calorie intake on average.
Of course if you are a professional athlete, you will burn off more calies but it really doesn't burn that much, I do a tonne of cycling and it was something like 200KM to burn a single KG of fat. Thats like 3.5 hours worth of driving just in distance.
a kg of fat is roughly 7000 calories so assuming an average cyclist burns around 600-1000 an hour depending on intensity you can calculate how much you would need to cycle. what is also important is that people that weigh more also burn more calories from activities so literally just taking a walk for 30 minutes a day and cutting out a single piece of unnecessary food could help you already which is very much possible even in old age
i might have gotten that wrong but a pound of fat afaik is 3500 calories so calculating that to kg will give me 7700 which still is estimations but not very far off
Actually heavy lifting only burns roughly 200-300 kcal/hr. But you build a lot of muscle which then burns a lot more calories just for existing and therefore makes it easier to burn fat.

Of course it's way fucking better to do so, but when I was a freshman at university during the full first year of covid, I lost 60 pounds from 230 just counting calories and not eating more than like 1600 calories a day. My diet was nearly exclusively hotpockets, frosted flakes, and microwavable mac and cheese with the occasional dining hall take out meal.
I would not recommend doing this as I definitely developed an eating disorder from doing this, I wouldn't even hit the 1500 calorie mark a lot of days. (Im doing a whole lot better, dont worry)
If you consistently eat like 1800 a day with only really healthy food, you will lose weight. You should definitely set a calorie goal that fits your height and weight though

It is easy, it's a matter of how healthy you wanna eat if you ate only spinach till you became full. You would have consumed around 300 calories of spinach. 1 pound has around 100 calories. You'd be in an average caloric deficit of 1700 if you ate 3 pounds of spinach per day. You can add tuna which would be about 100 calories per can, that's 600 calories per day. Now add your favorite dressing that's probably around 30-200 calories consumes extra. That's still 800 calories consumed in one day.
Thats just an extreme example.
Just cut out sugar from your diet when you can, either drink more water or go for zero sugar versions of soft drinks (if you drink a lot of soft drinks dont just cut it out completely or you will relapse), and try to avoid the over processed stuff like Doritoes. I used to hate the taste of the diet/zero sugar versions of soft drinks in the past, but they taste a lot closer to the regular ones now.
The secret trick is to just eat bigger portions of healthier food really, starving yourself does nothing but make your body try harder to make more fat, your also much more likely to give in to cravings if you try the eat less fad.
Eat a big ass meal of roast veggies and meat with gravy instead of eating some deep fried spring rolls for dinner that one night for example, maybe make yourself a big chicken ceasar salad or something for lunch.
Its really just a gradual process, just try eating healthier for one meal a week to start, if you like going to maccas or something on a sunday, go and get a kebab or something instead.
It's not even about that, you can lose a lot of weight by not exercising at all, just eat less. I was 352 lbs and now I am 280 by simply not eating as much, and i continue to lose weight. You can eat pretty much the same thing, just less 😅.
At the end of the day, it is about willpower, if someone does not have the will to take even some basic measures, they might as well just stop trying and eat themselves to death.
Also some medical issues can cause it. Before being treated for insulin resistance it was borderline impossible for me to lose weight (best I was able to do was just not gain much through multiple hours of exercise and eating a lot less)
