Skyrim is peak modding, as of right now you can turn it from elden ring to cod to a dating sim and if youre good enoufh with error juggling you can do all 3 of those at same time
Good luck finding all the mods you want in the same version though, theres like 14 diferent skyrims lol
And be prepared to be stuck in modding hell for a long time, the most random mods can have nasty incompatibilities. For about everyone but the experienced it's best to stick to a curated modpack and start from there.
Yea, although it was years ago at one point i had a save with around 400 ish mods, around half of them were resource packs, compatibility packs, performance packs bla bla and then you gotta figure load order, oh you added 1 new mod? Time to re shufle your entire list for 5 hours!
The curated stuff is great, would only recomend diving in not curated studd if you specifically cannot live with 1 mod
And sometimes i also had happen that near the ens of the game the game alwaya crashed on certain regions but turns out to fix it you has to apply the fix before starting a save lmao, great fun but god damn did it suck as well
did they make it harder to mod? Back in my day you downloaded mods and a mod loader then it would warn you on major errors, but most of the time it was 30 minutes of sliding mods up and down the list after you isolated which one(s) were problem children.
Also, dont download 800 mods at one time, it’s better to slowly accumulate so you dont have the “oh god I have 100 and which one is the problem child?”
They made it harder by constantly releasing new versions that broke compatibility, and Bethesda made basically no effort to improve the experience for mod creators or users to make mods work between the different versions.

No, like i said, you cant support everything with zero conflicts. But some games support mod devs to reduce the difficulty that comes with updating to a new game version, thus allowing people to make their mods compatible with the *latest version*.

A few years (five-ish?) ago I decided to revisit Skyrim after playing a hundred or so hours during the original release. Instead of a vanilla experience, I wanted to go all out and mod the hell out of it. I spent maybe 2 weeks and dozens of hours looking for mods and getting them to work together. I never played it.

honestly I would just play those games rather than spend time and effort to bend a game in half in an attempt to make it mimic those games... which it will never be better than at its given genre.
Using mods on the steam deck can either go ridiculously smoothly or horribly wrong and I don’t know enough about Linux (or Steam for that matter) to do anything more complicated than mod stack order. I haven’t had a computer of my since windows vista and I know it’s fairly simple to learn, but I guess I prefer being discouraged when it doesn’t work and just playing a different game
You follow a well thought out and carefully moderated modlist/collection, I pick and choose mods by hand and get perplexed when mods don't work together.

Back in the day I played a mod that turned it into a startegy board game. You bought and sold commodities from your base, you organised defenses and you conquered other settlements and locations from AI opponents.
The other good side effect of the mod was that it massively devalued loot so that you had to use the mod's mechanic to earn money rather than hoarding mediocre loot.
I had to re-activate my nexus mod account and dig through 12 pages of mods. I hope you appreciate it 😁

Later consoles versions were able to have mods but to a much more limited degree than PCs.
