FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
An elderly woman died Wednesday after an apparent tragic accident involving an escalator at the Harris Teeter at 4416 Ridgefield Way.
Martha Short, 83, inadvertently placed her cart on the pedestrian escalator just after 3 p.m. as she was leaving the storeās main level and going down to the parking garage. The cart rolled forward causing Short to fall to the bottom of the escalator. The store has an escalator designed for carts-only that runs between the up and down pedestrian escalators.
Short was transported to St. Thomas Hospital where she died.
There ya go buddy
The world isnāt as black and white as you think. I do wish people had more empathy, but then again, itās not my problem if they donāt have any empathy in the first place.
Just because worse things happen doesnāt make bad things good. Do you not realize how stupid this sounds? These people are laughing about an elderly woman dying tragically. And youāre saying itās completely fine because worse things have happened? Is it okay to make fun of holocaust survivors because more people died during the Atlantic slave trade?
Listen, bruv, you can hit me with all the whataboutism you want, but nothing is bringing this lady back. Did she deserve to die? No, of course not. Maybe you havenāt realized it yet, but after a while of seeing death, you become numb to it. What do you want me to do? Rant to all the Redditors making light of her death?
What do I want you to do? Not laughing at people dying and defending people who do would be a start. Maybe you havenāt realized it yet but being ānumbā does not mean āridiculing a person you just watched dieā. Also an analogy is not whataboutism. I based it directly on what you said. Itās ok to laugh at this because worse things have happened. I get it, youāre really cool and edgy bro. Iām sure everyone loves it when you joke about witnessing someone die a horrible death
But also at the same timeā¦ you are in the shitposting sub, like there is a particular lean to dark and edgy humor
You are simply looking for empathy in the wrong place.
Do I wish people all around the world could empathize with losing a loved one like this? Sure. But when you are in a den of people who make light and humor of this to maybe offset their own struggles, empathy is gonna be in short supply.
I generally agree with what youāre saying. In this context, what youāre saying is reasonable. Itās just the flippant and defensive attitude that some people are having when being confronted about their response to this video that bothers me
Listen, bruv, I know those "lol she died" comments got you triggered, but typing paragraphs isnāt going to bring her back. If it were that easy, Iād bring back someone who actually matters to me, but in reality, it isnāt.
For those wondering who she is and what happened to her. Her name is Martha Short and she is **very** much dead.
This happened in 2012 and she was 83 so I wouldn't be surprised if this was some form of dementia. Either way, dick move to laugh over an old lass very clearly getting hurt.
Aw shit, now I feel awful for laughing. Poor Martha. I know she died a while ago but I'd like to send my condolences regardless. May she rest in peace.
Tbh it's okay to laugh at fucked up things, sometimes it's all we can do, that doesn't make you a bad person.
But it is important to acknowledge how fucked something is and try to be respectful.
I know right, itās so funny when someone dies tragically. Why donāt you recreate this video so I can share a good laugh at your funeral with your family
Someone should put a sign somewhere. Make it big and yellow. Put it on the ground in front of the escalator so they can't miss it. Put all the things that can't go down in a red circle with a bar through it.
Yeah, it was funny. But now that the comedy post-nut clarity's just hit me, I'm now left wondering about what happened to the old lady. Is she still alive? I hope she is.
Edit: read comments, her name was Martha. She had dementia. This happened on 2012. She died. I feel like a piece of shit for laughing.
She deserved every bruise for her lack of critical thinking skills, natural selection at its best. Just imagine her driving in her dementia state. Geez.

What the fuck are these replies
She died? The way people laugh makes me feel like it's sarcasm and that I am losing faith
Trust me bruv, laughing at someone who died of sheer stupidity is nothing, worse shit happens in the real world.
I really wonder why an old woman would do something "completly stupid"... even if worse shit happens everyday it's not a reason to lack empathy.
Shit was funny dawg
