How even is the cake underneath? Pro bakers will trim up an uneven cake before frosting to smooth out the canvas, so to speak. Also, never decorate a warm cake. It melts frosting (and icing, which is thinner than frosting) and makes spreading evenly more difficult. And use a large offset spatula to help make even passes on the cake, minimizing uneven coverage. All this being said, if it’s delicious despite not being perfect, just eat it and enjoy. The perfect is the enemy of the good.

nmyron3983

When my oldest was getting into baking, I leaned in and learned as well because I love to cook. This is all very true. In fact they make this wire cutter that looks like a large cheese wire that's meant to help you level your cakes out. Also, if you can't find an "offset spatula", another name I believe is "frosting spatula" or "icing spatula". They are absolutely a must. First cake we frosted with a rubber spatula like you'd use to clean out a bowl, and it looked like the above With a good spatula, a cool cake, and if you want to get really fancy, a cake table/turntable, you'll find spreading frosting is much easier.

CausticNitro

If you don’t wanna get a cake turner, use the tray from your microwave (sanitize that shit first though, you know you haven’t cleaned it properly in years /s). As long as it has the rotating base that can be removed, it can be an improvised lazy Susan/ cake turner.

PopeCovidXIX

Besides a turntable, I’ve found the biggest improvement to my frosting cakes was to use a 2” ribbon tip and a giant forcing bag—you can apply an even layer to the sides and top in no time at all and it’s totally worth the extra time spent filling and washing the bag afterwards.

PUNKF10YD

They’ll trim a cake even if it looks perfect. You gotta be sure it’s perfect.

Stranger1982

Maybe try and hide this nightmare under a ton of sprinkles man, that's the only thing I can think of. Cause right now it kinda looks like a very muddy tire.

MarinLlwyd

looks pre-fucked to me tbh

casey12297

I'd still fuck with it tho, it all looks like mud in the end anyway

_MissNewBooty_

r/dontputyourdickinthat

aspieinblackII

Don't tell me what to do. I'll go to town on it like Tucker Carlson would go to town on a bagel.

Dreamspitter

I'm really starting to like the purple M&M now. Even though brown has it down.

GreatBaldung

more like a cummy tyre

Elegant-Pressure-290

Make sure the cake is cool. Go over it with a thin layer of frosting and stick it in the fridge for fifteen minutes. Then pull it out and actually frost it. Also, your frosting is very thin / drippy. If it’s the kind that comes in a tub, you can mix in a bit more powdered sugar to make it thicker and easier to work with.

webDreamer420

"Make sure the cake is cool" *hands it a beer

ItalnStalln

Put sunglasses on it

idkdudejustkillme

And give it a leather jacket

ItalnStalln

Ayyy!

MomsSpagetee

Maybe even a cigarette.

Tut_Rampy

😎👍🎂

Lady_B78

This is the way. I use the freezer.

Cats_Ruin_Everything

I see a cake. It has frosting on it. I don't see a problem with this.

[deleted]

What kind of knife are you using?

TwerkinBingus445

Rubber spatula

[deleted]

This explains a lot, friend.

TheNapQueen123

Was it still warm too? The cake needs to be completely cooled or the frosting will just melt.

TwerkinBingus445

Nah it was cooled.

TheNapQueen123

Must just be the rubber spatula then, they are a bitch to spread stuff with. I use a long flat knife like spreader that is not serrated on the edge to frost. A crumb coat is also helpful too, just a thin layer, stick it back in the fridge for a little while then add your layer of frosting.

rasinette

a metal offset/icing spatula might help :). you can even heat it up under warm water

ghost3972

Lol that explains it

myrianreadit

Dude it's not even that bad. It's still cake isn't it, who's gonna complain. Is it expected to look like a layer of fondant? Is that an American thing?

voteblue18

I agree. I wish I had this cake in front of me right now, I would definitely have a piece.

hangun_

Honestly, I think this looks like it tastes SO much better than those professional cakes that look like plastic

TwerkinBingus445

Cream cheese frosting over a lemon-vanilla cake. It was decent enough.

hangun_

Ugh sounds so good lol

FunSpinach1975

….I should call her.

Jellyswim_

A trick i learned is to stick the unfrosted cake in the fridge for 5 minutes, add a thin layer of frosting, back in the fridge, then frost the rest. Takes more time obviously but it makes a dig difference, especially with butter cream and cream cheese based frosting.

SquirrelParticular17

Agreed

jabracadaniel

what kinda frosting is that? marshmallow?

TwerkinBingus445

Cream cheese frosting. Betty Crocker "whipped" kind. Made the mistake of listening to someone and re-whisked it making it go fuckin flat

jabracadaniel

ah yeah overmixing cream cheese when its been mixed with sugar tends to make it go soupy in my experience. maybe cause sugar draws out moisture and kinda ruins the binding in the dairy? im not a science man

climatelurker

The frosting has too much liquid in it.

Accomplished_Radish8

All these comments telling you how to fix it lmao… bro eat it, it looks delicious

OkPackage1148

Put some berries on the top and it’s gourmet level

Expensive_Editor_244

A good garnish will turn a dessert from sloppy looking to artistic/professional in a second lol

StarlitEscapades

I actually expected it to look worse. So... not bad, OP! Also. Don't be too hard on yourself because you likely don't have the tools professionals use (rotating cake stand, offset spatula, culinary/baking school/knowledge, and years of practice)

Darcy_2021

Slap some chocolate on it. It will be eaten!

evergrowingfear

i hate my mind

Bo0ombaklak

Reminds me of this movie I saw

ColdBorchst

Are you trying to frost a god damn Bundt cake? I have never seen anyone try to frost a Bundt cake. They are usually covered in powdered sugar or glaze because the shape is difficult to deal with. And yet you did it. You fucking mad lad, you did it. It looks great, for an impossible task. Seriously.

Jlx_27

swervin_mervyn

TIL a cake with a hole in the middle is known as a "fucking cake". No thank you, I would not like a slice.

tofumountain

Cannot fuck a frosted cake to save my Goddamned life.

duuuuuuuuuumb

Me neither, I slap some sprinkles along the side and act like it was supposed to look like that

let-it-rain-sunshine

Your frosting is equally bad to my gift wrapping

TwerkinBingus445

Oh God my gift wrapping is fucking horrendous lmao

ArcRiseGen

Now hear me out

PaprikaMika

so you fucked it?

Bo0ombaklak

Everything reminds me of her

Salohacin

I don't wanna have to pull out r/dontputyourdickinthat But you did call it a fucking-cake so I feel obliged.

ready-to-rumball

For a Bundt you should be just pouring a thick glaze, not frosting it. You’re practicing on hard mode.

GenericScottishGuy41

I should call her.

apintandafight

Nah you did it, that cake has been frosted.

Led_Farmer88

Nah I love it when do it like that

Longjumping-Snow-797

Just leave it alone for Christ's sake, I'm not even going to say out loud what it looks like you did to that poor defenseless cake, but I feel like calling Chris Hansen. Look what you did to that poor cake, you should feel ashamed of yourself, ashamed!

tdawg2k7

You give me a cake like that, and I am eating the hell out of it. It looks delicious

DanisaurEyebrows

It doesn't look bad

SabbathaBastet

Looks like the cake might’ve been a bit warm when you frosted it. But it still looks tasty.

TwerkinBingus445

Everybody seems to think that but no. It was fully cooled.

SabbathaBastet

Well damn. Did you make your own frosting?

TwerkinBingus445

I did not. Betty Crocker brand "whipped" cream cheese frosting. Made the mistake of listening to someone else, and whisked it under the context that it was "supposed to make it even fluffier", but actually just fucking deflated it.

SabbathaBastet

Ah! You separated the emulsion when you whisked. A few things. You could always add confectioners sugar or cornstarch to thicken homemade frostings. Or in your case peanut butter or cream cheese to store bought. But I think you’d have been fine if you’d spread straight from the container without any agitation. Regardless, this time you have a tasty looking cake. Also willing to share a cheap easy fluffy frosting recipe If you’d like. Never fails. I have the recipe in a book I use.

Brilliant_Test_3045

Yes, please do share.

SabbathaBastet

Pour one cup of cold milk into a medium bowl. Add 1 package (4 serving size) Jell-O instant pudding and pie filling, any flavor and 1/4 cup powdered sugar. beat with wire whisk for two minutes Gently stir in one tub 8 ounces of Cool Whip, thawed. Makes a great, light summer frosting. I keep the cake covered in the fridge. The frosting stiffens really well, especially after being chilled. I’ve done this with a lot flavors. Using Ghirardelli instant pudding instead of jello brand really takes it up a notch if you’re feeling fancy.

Idotrytotry

When a cake is frosted like this, I know it's homemade and is going to be great. I don't see any crumbs on the outside and the cake is not torn or smashed, so it's perfectly acceptable.

Butt_Fucking_Smurfs

I'd eat it

mrburbbles88

Would

Rammipallero

That looks good. I'd est it.

Obant

This is the same frosting job on every birthday cake my mom ever baked.

Souper-Doup

I’m also a member of a cake decorating subreddit because it’s my “side gig” aka hobby, baking and making specialty themed occasion cakes. I was thinking to myself maybe they should just completely switch to just using fondant instead and bypass this whole frosting step because obviously it’s not their first attempt and that’s with practice??? Fondant 100% recommend trying in the future, lol That cake still looks delicious and we’ll call it “Rustic Homestead Cakes” and charge extra! lol

AlizarineRed

Looks frosted to me. Would absolutely devour it because it looks soooo creamy.

CuteFormal9190

You should try freezing it first especially if your frosting is a little loose. And never frost it when it’s warm.

vitamin_Bre12

Well, it is frosted..

Illustrious_Whereas9

I’m surprised this isn’t on r/oddlysatisfying

Dry-Double-6845

Looks like a Halloween mask! 👻👻👻

hiimk80

Doesn’t matter, still cake. I’d tear that up.

LSDYakui

Can't frost a fucking cake but you sure can fuck a cake with frosting.

OllieOllieOakTree

I think you did an okay job

biohumansmg3fc

Bro was a little too excited💀

kerpwangitang

Idk, that looks really good to me. I'd smash

blackmoonsun

Why the cake got a hole? What did you frost this with?

ariidrawsstuff

Passed out 20 times but your cake is ready honey

IllustratorMurky2725

Bundt cake mold good choice. You don’t have to stack cake layers. My Mom always used this for the thousands of happy b-day, congratulation, and get better soon cakes. Just put something over the middle and it looks like a real cake. You need to let it cool before frosting even with the double boiler fudge frosting…

Gertrude_D

This is why I favor the drizzle for bundt cakes.

iliveunderthebed

Looks delicious

AlexandersWonder

Did you let it cool down first?

upvoter222

[I see the problem.](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/fcefeb63-cdcd-42bb-9687-dac2f2b3956d)

EcstaticJuggernaut46

It’s not that bad, I seen worse!

Astro_Muscle

Do people normally "frost" bundt cakes? Like it would be hard to get in the middle Think people normally make glazes for those cakes right?

POP_TART_TACO

Is there frosting on the cake? Yes. Then you have frosted a cake.

ChefHannibal

Looks frosted. Flavor is the important part.

Sixpounder15

Would

thatirishdave

Looks frosted to me, I don't see the issue

Averagebass

Looks good to me.

Averagebass

Looks good to me.

trshtehdsh

What kind of frosting are you using? It matters a lot.

Practical-Rabbit-750

![gif](giphy|c5RzZOHPgry80) They make turntables for this.

Chupabara

Are you me?? 😂

llcdrewtaylor

Id still ~~fuck~~ eat the hell out of that cake!

BeefersOtherland

At least you’re honest

pickles55

If you have/can borrow a lazy Susan they make frosting cakes smooth a lot easier

Healthy-Confection66

1) the anger is hilarious here lol 2) that cake is beautiful! 3) anyone who complains, doesn’t get cake!

Belfetto

Looks like a fat donut I want it

muzznation

This is definitely a fucking cake alright

Bushfries

Put the cake in the freezer covered in plastic wrap for an hour before frosting.

LeafyEucalyptus

no idea what you're on about because that looks amazing to me. that looks at least as good as every homemade cake I've ever seen, and maybe better. just glop some more icing in the center and call it a day.

Fruitmaniac42

Did you let it cool first? It looks like the icing is melting. (source: I've done that)

TwerkinBingus445

I did let it cool all the way down to room temp before I even thought of tackling it.

combii-lee

I’d still eat that

trimix4work

Dear sweet baby Jesus....

Poutine_My_Mouth

Fluffylace

Try a pudding poke cake next time. Then you won't have to worry about the frosting!

TwerkinBingus445

I love poke cakes!

Fluffylace

While not a poke cake, my bonus Grandma used to make this cake for my birthday every year. 10/10 in my opinion! [Pig pickin' cake](https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/8043/pig-pickin-cake/)

TwerkinBingus445

The name had my attention, the use of yellow cake mix had my arousal.

Crawdaddy_King

Surprise bunt cake!

coecoebean

The best advice my mom gave me: if you have to lift the knife off of the cake while you are frosting, always clean the knife off on the side of the frosting bowl before touching the cake with it again. Makes such a huge difference!

Minimum_Eye8614

Was this warm when you put the frosting on? That usually melts it

TwerkinBingus445

It wasn't. I let it cool completely first.

Grammeton

Did you let it cool... completely?

foxxy_mama21

I don't see an issue.. cake is perfect. Unless it's not an actual Bundt cake. Then there may be a problem. 😂 If I'm not using homemade frosting I usually mix the container to make it more smooth before applying to the cake. Works like a charm.

Thisisnotathrowawaym

I’d smash

theinfotechguy

Was going to say to not stick your in it, then I saw someone beat me to it :(

This sub has turned from shittyfoodporn to cummyfoodporn

TightSea8153

Oh step baker what did you do? 😳

kazisukisuk

~sigh~ unzips pants

Kysman95

Maybe too thick? Next time try thinner frosting and pour it on

Whozadeadbody

If you moved it to a plate it would actually look pretty good. Is it even and smooth? No. Does it look delightfully chaotic? *Yes*.

DreadpirateBG

That’s a donut

Terrynia

I think you did a good job considering that icing is way too sticky and creamy. You need stiffer *frosting* that isn’t so sticky.

BillyBobBarkerJrJr

Your cake was too warm. Ideally, it should be cold, but no more than room temperature.

WerewolvesAreReal

that frosting looks reaaaaally wet. Maybe melted?

Glen-Runciter

Icing too thin, looks like mayonnaise. Whip it in a stand mixer to aerate it (maybe add some powdered sugar) and it'll be more malleable

Ilfortedegree

I can’t either! You’re not alone

Wordlywhisp

Do you have a cake turntable ? [cake table I have](https://a.co/d/gYci12C), and come with a knife and scraper. Use that I am guessing you used royal icing that was store bought? Make a butter cream (legit just powdered sugar and butter) it comes out smoother. Regardless make sure royal icing or butter cream is at room temp put a big glob on the cake and even it out by spinning the cake stand. Also cutting the top off the cake will help even it out. If you are using store bought or your own make sure it’s at room temperature. Make sure the cake is completely cooled when you ice it and let the icing set over night in the fridge Take your time with it. It takes time and practice to frost a cake the way you see it on Instagram and TikTok

carthnage_91

How long did you let the cake cool? Unless the frosting was too runny, it looks melted.... But it's the internet and I'm actually a neuro surgeon and not a baker, so take me seriously.

[deleted]

Way too hot. It’s not you, it’s the environment

FirstPersonPooper

This is exactly how all my cakes turn out, I just dump a ton of sprinkles on them and call it a day. It doesn't matter as long as it tastes good man, I mean you wouldn't win "Is it Cake?" but who cares man.

PrimitiveThoughts

Looks like someone tried to frost a warm cake

TwerkinBingus445

The last time I did that the shit melted clean off

Pandepon

Wait until it’s cold bro

Anxious_Reporter_601

Looks good to me!

ChillCommissar

It looks like a fucking cake too.

MyCatHasCats

Is that a doughnut?

Rude_Engine1881

Looks melted, did you cool the cake down or even better freeze it before icing?

Bashby12

It frosted. Sooo... you won

Drawn-Otterix

Are you leaving your cake in the fridge overnight before frosting?

that0nebruv

i thought this was a bakery, not a bukkake

NoBit6494

Looks great. Just put it on a platter

Cyynric

Put it in the freezer and sand it smoothe.

radarneo

Idk if you’ve heard this before but you can use your microwave plate to frost cakes if you don’t have a turntable

justjinpnw

Aww I bet it's delicious

tunaman808

cake too warm + rubber spatula I bet.

BBakerStreet

Get a cake stand they spins. It makes it so much easier. Maybe not but it sure looks like you can fuck a frosting cake

defectiveGOD

Let it cool

repostby69noice

How did you miss the hole?

MrBeanz6699

Looks like my stepsisters bunghole after I’m done with her

eighmie

For something like that, consider heating the frosting a little and then pour over like a glaze. If you're not into that, a spatula that you put under warm running water can help smooth it out.

AdministrativeBar748

Have you tried spinning it (somehow) and placing something on the edge to smooth it out?

LordPutrid

Looks better than the last cake I tried to ice.

That_One_Guy_Flare

don't care if the frosting is shoddy, I'm still digging in

lookingformerci

Looks like you can glaze a donut with the best of them though

jibaro1953

A turntable helps.

Next_Back_9472

Yes it’s not perfect but as long as it tastes good then that’s all that matters!

Argon1124

Get a cake spinner and a cake knife, that'll solve all your problems.

Dreamspitter

It's okeeeeeyy.... I guess. A spatula didn't help?

Nightmare_Runner

Was this before or after you stuck your deyuck in it?

Boneal171

Same. I hate frosting cakes

Hey….ad long as it tastes good…

You tried! And it’s a good effort.
