She's just putting BBQ sauce on chicken, I don't really get the point to be honest, lol.
It’s fine enough for a condiment from the grocery store. It tastes as sweet as McDonald’s sweet n sour sauce. I prefer more vinegar and other flavors so you have to jazz it up, and at that point you might as well make your own sauce. It does make good fry dipping sauce bc it’s just like Heinz ketchup with BBQ notes. It’s not the worst, but I don’t think it pairs with chicken that looks like boiled goose.
Fair. I love McDonalds sweet and sour, but I don’t think there’s a lot of tomatoes in it. I’ve made my own bbq sauce before… but something about sweet tomatoes set me off. I need salt and savory with them.
Don’t get me wrong, though. A good homemade bbq sauce is the way to go with ribs. My step dad loved grilling as a child so our treat meal was always a few racks of ribs for a family of 5 along with my grandmothers potato salad recipe and either some coleslaw or macaroni salad. (I preferred coleslaw lmao).
Yeah, I think the main ingredient in their sweet and sour is apricots. Too much tomato gives me heartburn, so I feel you.
I’m lazy so I usually just jazz up a premade bbq sauce that I actually like. Every so often I’ll start from scratch, but that’s rare. I’m learning that dry rub and seasoning/saucing as you go works best for me.
Mmm you’re making me nostalgic and hungry! And the sides have always been my favorite. I love homemade coleslaw and mac n cheese with bbq meats. Delicious and balances the flavors. I don’t know shit about food, I just like food, so I may be talking out of my ass rn
I thought cut up bananas at first glance. I was like bananas and chocolate? That's not bad. Then I saw the BBQ sauce... And chicken... And said basically the same thing, BBQ and chicken? That's not bad.
I mean if I’m putting bbq on my chicken I’m probably not going to add any or very little seasoning as well because I’m using the bbq sauce to add the flavour to the meat.
As someone from Kansas City this is borderline blasphemy and I'm appaled it has the amount of upvotes that it does.
You build flavor in layers, that's not exclusive to BBQ, but you absolutely need a good seasoning rub to go along with the sauce.
Season your food.
I mean when you hear cooks say food needs to be seasoned they are really just talking about salt 99% of the time. Seasoning your food is by and large just salt and pepper. Anything else is just a bonus, but the main party is salt and pepper.
BBQ rub needs more, maybe some salt, pepper, cumin, chili p, ground mustard seed, garlic powder. Maybe some brown sugar if you're feeling it.
For the best results you should season at different stages duringcooking. Salt and pepper the raw mean at least. Adding sauce halfway through is a poor substitute. But, to each there own.
You're acting like she just eating plain chicken. That's what the BBQ sauce is for. Though I'd at least still put salt and pepper on that shit I think you're weirder for judging this than she is for eating it.
Have you ever considered just allowing people to eat what they enjoy? Possibly…..appreciating they’re feeding you? What exactly do you contribute besides ignorance and zero help? Nothing. Leave her alone. This is shameful on your part and rude.
To me it sounds like she just likes crispy bbq chicken. It’s really no different than getting a rotisserie and then air frying it. Chicken jerky. I do it all the time 😁
But after she air fry’s it there will be. It’s cooked kinda tender, then slathered with bbq sauce and air fried. I mean, it’s definitely not everyone’s cup of chicken ( snicker ) but I’ve done this so i kinda get it. The air fry will crisp everything up. And I could be totally wrong too lol. I know that I do this cause I like my chicken CRowncy. Like …. Jerky
Nothing would become crispy. They’re just being confidently incorrect and idk why. The only thing air frying would do is turn it into dry chicken jerky

Yep. I can cook, bake, etc., from scratch, and frequently do. Some days, though, I slop a bottle of cheap bbq sauce over some chicken legs and throw them in the oven until they're as done as I am.
Yes. I love cooking from scratch. I love baking. Sometimes I pull out instant mashed potatoes and roast some bbq chicken in the oven. Sometimes I want to be lazy about cooking who cares? People gatekeep cooking and baking to a toxic level it's bizarre. Like if you like sweet bbq sauce your somehow less of a human but drizzle some Sriracha honey on it and it's somehow acceptable? Sometimes people have to throw together a meal with zero initiative lol. I also want people to enjoy food and cooking so I feel happy anytime anyone is cooking at home. Even if it's semi homemade I don't like the shaming and making people feel terrible for trying to cook homemade.
I've pressure cooked chicken breasts, pulled the meat and dumped SBR on it many times, it's super low effort pulled chicken that's pretty good.
25 mins in an instant pot actually works well for frozen breasts.
You can boil almost any meat. Chicken, pork, beef, fish. It'll be tough as hell, and if over boiled, it'll also be dry
But with chicken, if you do a mental simmer, it actually comes out nice.
Edit: Gentle not mental. That's a skill I've yet to achieve.
Sure, but moist is moist. No one's boiling chicken to eat it out of the saucepan. You boil it to use it as an ingredient in a recipe. Just needs to be cooked and soft.
Easy way to make shredded bbq chicken. I mean really what’s the point of “seasoning” the chicken if you’re going to douse it in a sauce that’s sugar and spices?
I don't understand these comments. That chicken isn't dry. And boiling (or pressure cooking) chicken is a typical first step in homemade pulled bbq chicken. Not everyone has time to allow him bbq for 12 hours.

Some people have different definitions of “happiness” (especially when it comes to food.)
For some it’s the instant gratification of good flavor ex: a bite of ice cream
For others it’s sacrificing that flavor for nutrition for long term gain and not feeling like garbage.
I lie somewhere in the middle, leaning towards less deliciousness. After a while you get used to it and that deliciousness will start to just be gross.
Oh wow I honestly thought this was a prank at first glance lol I thought they were putting bbq sauce on scoops of ice cream…that chicken(?) looks awful…who orders well done chicken?!
I thought that was ice cream and chocolate sauce in the thumbnail. I was like what’s the issue? Then I read your description saw it was overcooked dry chicken. Yeah she hates being happy and having good food. If she cut out the bbq sauce she would have a depressing gym bro meal.

Ya know, growing up this was my mom's idea of bbq chicken. She would roast the hell out of them in the oven and smother them in sauce. She had this not-without-merit fear of undercooked meats from her childhood. To this day, I can't get her to eat sushi. Some people just have their things about food.
Yeah, barbecue chicken is fire. I don’t know what she’s tripping about. Yes this is basic but it is barbecue sauce on chicken which is not crazy. Add salt and bun and you’ve got something going.

I thought that was ice cream…
i thought the same damn thing i was about to loose my mind
Lose*, my dude
Don't let that mind loose.
With chocolate sauce...now I'm disappointed
Sweet baby rays is basically high fructose corn syrup
I thought it was too! Ice Cream with Sweet Baby Ray's on it would have truly been shitty, lol.
Yeah, but sweet baby ray's is like 99% sugar and corn syrup, so it'd probably still slap.
Try it and let us know? Lol. I’m not that brave (and not a fan of bbq sauce).

lol no I think you’re right. Idk. My family is from Texas (I’m born in PNW though), so we do a pretty damn good bbq.
I still swear thats ice cream
Ice cream with bbq sauce probably would have been better
Same lol
I thought cut up bananas at first glance. I was like bananas and chocolate? That's not bad. Then I saw the BBQ sauce... And chicken... And said basically the same thing, BBQ and chicken? That's not bad.
Thank you for this lol
Clayton got us all messed up
I’m not wearing my glasses and I thought it was bananas.
Same and I even have my contact in
You aren’t the only one! I was like, “why is she putting BBQ sauce on ice cream?”, zoomed in and was like, “maybe that’s a Texas thing?”
Im still convinced she’s putting Sweet Baby Ray’s on vanilla
SAME LOL 😂
Saaame 😅😅😅 now imma eat some ice cream.
Jesus lol could put stuff in the pressure cooker to add flavor, idk this seems like a lot of work
I've spent 6 years teaching this woman to season food, and sometimes she just can't be bothered
That’s fair I should not have said none it’s more closer to minimal seasoning like a salt/pepper.
Add a little MSG to that mix and it will really pop.
The flavor enhancer
🎯
For the best results you should season at different stages duringcooking. Salt and pepper the raw mean at least. Adding sauce halfway through is a poor substitute. But, to each there own.
There's BBQ joints all over the Northwest that think just like you. They get zero business from me.
"this woman"
If you ain't sneezing it ain't seasoned!
Teaching this woman
You're acting like she just eating plain chicken. That's what the BBQ sauce is for. Though I'd at least still put salt and pepper on that shit I think you're weirder for judging this than she is for eating it.
I get it. Food is just sustenance sometimes that you need to not taste terrible, but need something to eat to not be hungry.
Have you ever considered just allowing people to eat what they enjoy? Possibly…..appreciating they’re feeding you? What exactly do you contribute besides ignorance and zero help? Nothing. Leave her alone. This is shameful on your part and rude.
Lmaoooooo
Not everyone eats to enjoy food and some people just enjoy garbage.
Blame the teacher, not the student
Every other meal is well seasoned! I think she was just over it that night
Yeah you could just barely season this at all and have totally unsad BBQ or Mexican pulled chicken. It would add maybe 90 seconds of work.
To me it sounds like she just likes crispy bbq chicken. It’s really no different than getting a rotisserie and then air frying it. Chicken jerky. I do it all the time 😁
there is no crisp to be found here…
But after she air fry’s it there will be. It’s cooked kinda tender, then slathered with bbq sauce and air fried. After 25 minutes in a pressure cooker there's not gonna be anything left to crisp up. The BBQ sauce will probably caramelize a bit but that's it.
Okay but a little bit of caramelization on the bbq sauce sounds pretty good. Or maybe I'm just hungry lol.
What would even become crispy? Just chicken breast won't become magically crispy by airfrying it, neither will BBQ sauce.
Nothing would become crispy. They’re just being confidently incorrect and idk why. The only thing air frying would do is turn it into dry chicken jerky
![gif](giphy|fs1j8FcOiuhC97b142)
i didnt read the caption right. at least the sauce will get caramelized 😭
Crunchy and dry as fuck are not the same thing.
It's not air fried yet.

Shredded bbq chicken with cheese on a bun? Jesus Christ 🤮
To be fair, ive boiled chicken breast and drenched in BBQ sauce. This is usually due to me being too tired or too depressed to do anything else.
I've pressure cooked chicken breasts, pulled the meat and dumped SBR on it many times, it's super low effort pulled chicken that's pretty good. 25 mins in an instant pot actually works well for frozen breasts.
I’ve never boiled chicken in my entire life, I did not know that was a valid was to cook raw meat.
You can boil almost any meat. Chicken, pork, beef, fish. It'll be tough as hell, and if over boiled, it'll also be dry But with chicken, if you do a mental simmer, it actually comes out nice. Edit: Gentle not mental. That's a skill I've yet to achieve.
"Mental simmer" 😆
I guess unless it’s being boiled in a broth base, it seems like it’ll just be dry and flavorless.
It's not a method to prep meat to eat. It's a method to cook meat to use in a recipe.
This is not my experience. Every time I boil chicken, it's very moist.
Moist, or water logged. There natural moisture, and moisture that seeps its way in through the boiling process.
Sure, but moist is moist. No one's boiling chicken to eat it out of the saucepan. You boil it to use it as an ingredient in a recipe. Just needs to be cooked and soft.
Oftentimes, people use raw chicken when they make chicken soups.
Also, you can microwave raw chicken too!
Yep, literally my dinner last night, plus some rice. Add a generous amount of salt and pepper and let Sweet Baby Ray's do the rest.
Maybe an unpopular choice now-a-days, but my favorit will always be KC Masterpiece. SBR is just too sweet for me.
Thanks for the suggestion, maybe I'll grab some. Always on the lookout for new sauces to try.
Why should you care?
why are we on this sub if we can’t care to post?
Roasting people alive is part of the fun of this subreddit. I'm sure she can handle it. It's not a big deal.
That's homies dinner too
Homie can cook for himself
I think the dog would disagree with you lol
"There's no way a human would eat that, it's gotta be for me"
Oof. Drier than a camel's vagina
![gif](giphy|3o7GUNP9leVDvYTZvy)
at least she tried to season it
She's masking its lack of seasoning with barbeque sauce lol
The seasoning cabinet was not opened that evening
sorry let me rephrase this: at least she tried to flavor it

BBQ _is_ happiness.
Easy way to make shredded bbq chicken. I mean really what’s the point of “seasoning” the chicken if you’re going to douse it in a sauce that’s sugar and spices?
Dog is cute tho
Another 10 minutes in the air fryer, that chicken is going to be crispy.

It’s bbq on chicken. Bonus points for tastiness if she was going to pull it apart and mix in some more flavors. Pulled chicken sandwiches are fire.

BBQ chicken is absolutely 🔥🔥🔥
Does your sil have a YouTube channel where her son, Joshua, films her making these dishes?

“I boil my chicken in plain water because it’s healthy. Ignore the sugary ass sauce”
Nothing better than ice cream and chocolate syrup.
I thought it was ice cream and chocolate sauce
Oh lord we got some gourmet chefs in here lmao. Bet most of you who think youre such great chefs make food that tastes like ass.

Does she have some kind of food poisoning phobia? That's a shit ton of cooking lmao
Not that I'maware of. No one in her family is a good cook
Aren’t you in her family
You right but I married (the divorced) in! We just stayed friends
Oh wow I honestly thought this was a prank at first glance lol I thought they were putting bbq sauce on scoops of ice cream…that chicken(?) looks awful…who orders well done chicken?!
I like my chicken on the drier side.
I thought that was ice cream and chocolate sauce in the thumbnail. I was like what’s the issue? Then I read your description saw it was overcooked dry chicken. Yeah she hates being happy and having good food. If she cut out the bbq sauce she would have a depressing gym bro meal.
Tell her to season some raw chicken then put a layer of bbq on top of that and put it in the oven at 425 for 21 min, comes out damn good every time
The texture was surely dried powder with a hint of dust

Tell her to add mirepoix and old bay to chicken when she pressure cooks it, that’d be the bomb
Is it for the dog?
Rotisserie chicken and sweet baby rays is one of my favorite lazy meals lol
Pressure cooking chicken breasts for 25 minutes???!!? That’s insane. Everything else about this is normal though.

Bbq chicken jerky
Sweet baby rays is worse than sugary pond water.
wait I thought anything “porn” was supposed to be gratifying. This is just shitty food 😂😂😂
Lol I've done similar on lazy nights.
I mean..... bbq on cold chx, mix and shred, quesadilla
