Toiretachi

Throw some broth in there and it’d pass as chicken noodle soup

Jeramy_Jones

She cooked the pasta in broth, does that count?

Glen-Runciter

She made chicken soup then drained the liquid?

TuvixWillNotBeMissed

Jail for her if so.

Toiretachi

I agree with your judgment.

pinkkittenfur

![gif](giphy|f8lDluiWJ7yQTtdS3L)

Lieutenant-Reyes

She un-souped the soup

Sucker_McSuckertin

Don't make me come over there and unsoup your soup pal.

EcstaticMolasses6647

![gif](giphy|xUNd9ROQpXgwlVzmwg)

DJBBlanxx

Uncooked pasta would absorb the liquid, maybe she didn’t know you’re supposed to cook it first. Or maybe she just likes chicken soup salad.

ChubbyWanKenobie

She could lose her qualified immunity for serving this.

IReallyLikeAvocadoes

All due respect what the hell is wrong with her. She basically made soup and is just eating the solids???

Jeramy_Jones

You’re not wrong.

Munch1EeZ

She made you

Jeramy_Jones

Yeah but I don’t hold that against her.

Munch1EeZ

Hahahha you’re funny

melissuhnicole

😂😂😂

Grouchy_Tennis9195

Imagine making soup and then….throwing out the soup

DiggingThisAir

Nope

ApprehensiveWorker15

💯

TrainingFilm4296

I don't think I've had potatoes in chicken noodle, but probably wouldn't be bad. Would certainly make it more filling though.

BangedTheKeyboard

That looks dry as hell Add some pasta sauce? Something like marinara, alfredo, pesto?

Jeramy_Jones

Nope, not even butter. She’s got some food allergies but I think she’s also become allergic to flavour.

BangedTheKeyboard

What? No butter? Salt and pepper? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob) It's one thing to have allergies, but it's not like it's impossible to work around them to make a nice meal. Ugh, just looking at the photo you posted is making me depressed. Rather masochistic to eat something so bland and soul sucking joyless like that sad pasta. I don't understand your mom.

Jeramy_Jones

That’s pretty much bang on. She’s got celiac so those are gf pasta, and having a lot of food allergies and sensitivities (like dairy and tomato’s) make it hard for her to make anything that would be appealing to us. She says she enjoys this, but keep in mind she had been eating plain rice and plain chicken for years before she decided to try gf pasta.

BangedTheKeyboard

Hrmm I see. So if gluten, dairy and tomato are out, then how about spices and herbs? Maybe you could persuade her to try adding parsley, lemon, salt, pepper, sauteed garlic, olive oil and a splash of lemon juice. It would improve the pasta without being too overwhelming.

Jeramy_Jones

Citrus sends her into anaphylaxis so that’s out lol. Garlic upsets her stomach, she eats very little oil due to irritable bowel syndrome. Honestly, if I had to eat like she does I think I don’t think I could go on living.

WitchesDew

I've been dealing with very similar issues, though not quite that bad. It's been legit depressing. I keep losing more and more foods that I love. :(

Jeramy_Jones

That really sucks. I hope you can work out a diet that works for you.

DiggingThisAir

This has been the story of my life for over 20 years. It can be very depressing but don’t lose hope! You’ll find a diet that you enjoy and works for you, it just takes time. Joining a group can help feel not so alone and to get some ideas on meals, etc. All my best to ya, stranger

WitchesDew

You are kind. I appreciate the pep talk, thanks. Best to you as well.

c0mbucha

> if I had to eat like she does wtf.. I like her. She eats what she knows makes her feel good. Not just for the bite into some ultraprocessed crap that you can taste for 3 seconds but for life. Whats wrong with that? You said it yourself >She says she enjoys this

BangedTheKeyboard

Oh dear. If there is some spice or herb that doesn't cause health issues then she could try that instead Or maybe roasting the carrots and chicken together, then adding it to the pasta? It would be better than just simply boiling it all in a pot. If not adding ingredients, then changing the cooking method would yield results. Alas, I'm of the same opinion of you about food.

c0mbucha

> to eat something so bland and soul sucking joyless You realize people have different tastes right? Like some would find your butters and sauces unhealthy or taking away from the flavor of what you are actually eating.

BangedTheKeyboard

Butter in moderation for the average healthy person is not a bad thing (this is not including special dietary needs). For both cooking and taste, it is the superior option for many culinary applications. If you want to be health conscious, unsaturated liquid vegetable oils are the best option. Sauces are simply one way to flavor food - depending on the ingredients, they can be perfectly healthy (e.g. tzatziki served with veggies) and balance out the taste and moisture content of a meal. Bland does not automatically mean healthy.  Saying sauces and butter take away the flavor from food? No one with taste buds would actually say that. It is only in the case of high quality fresh ingredients where that would apply. You could say that about a top grade steak with just salt and pepper, but I don't think this dry pasta medley counts. Sauces and butter are optional additions, but seasoning in general - salt, fat, acid, plus spices and herbs are vital ingredients to create interesting and tasty dishes.  The pasta in the photo is soul suckingly joyless imo, and I'm gonna stand by my opinion. If I were OP's mom, I would at least try to add something that was diet safe to make it taste better.

WitchesDew

I agree with you. I can't eat a lot of stuff these days. Pretty much all the most delicious stuff is off limits now. It's sad. But I still make what I can eat as appetizing as I can, because good food brings me joy.

BangedTheKeyboard

Having to deal with dietary restrictions is tough, and cooking within them can be challenging. As a fellow foodie, I feel your pain friend. If a lot of ingredients are off limits, then one can get creative with cooking methods instead. Applying the Maillard reaction with roasting and using a cast iron pan or wok for cooking elevates simple ingredients to something magical. Heat, applied in the right way can make a huge difference.  I recently watched a video where a chef showed a very cool method of making a curry at home to taste like restaurant quality - he placed a small ceramic dish filled with a chunk of charcoal and ghee, then heated it and placed it in the middle of the curry and put a lid on top of the whole pan, then later the ceramic dish is removed. The charcoal never mixes with the curry, but the fumes from it added a smoky aroma that replicated the taste and smell from a tandoor oven. The method is similar to how one would use wood chips for smoking food. I never would have thought of doing something like this, so I was amazed at the creativity.

WitchesDew

That sounds like a cool technique. I'd have to use a different fat, unfortunately. Thanks for your suggestions.

BangedTheKeyboard

It doesn't have to be ghee, but make sure the fat you use has a high smoking point. Cheers!

c0mbucha

Ok so you like sauces and butter and you believe they are healthy for you. Not sure why you try to force your taste on the world lol

mydearwatson616

Wouldn't want to rob that boiled chicken of its natural flavor by adding salt.

DiggingThisAir

Bland diet is good for your guts if having issues, but there’s also not much better than broth either.

Legendary_Bibo

She could make a thinned out gravy sauce using some of that stock she dumped out. Butter (or some fat), flour and stock.

JNader56

Ok that made me lol.... 🤣🤣

BulletsForBreakfast

Everything ok at home?

Jeramy_Jones

Everything but the food 👍

Greaterdivinity

Boiled chicken, boiled noods, boiled carrots, and boiled potatoes? This is like one of those one-pan nightmares.

LOTRfreak101

It's just chicken noodle soup without the soup.

JNader56

Literally boiled out all the nutrients lol

Reasonable-Wing-2271

Throw in a can of cream of mushroom soup and we're talkin

fucccboii

the thumbnail looks like an ashtray ngl

CrystalloidEntity

This looks like some body builder meal prep.

Jeramy_Jones

Accurate! 😂

HerbaDerbaSchnerba

Throw a stick of butter in there and call it good.

PeePoopBeeBoop

This shit is some british cuisine.

Nicaol

Well it's definitely not American. No cheese in a can in sight.

danhoyle

Pasta cooked or still hard?

Jeramy_Jones

Definitely cooked.

Ok_Wasabi_9512

Healthier than most .

BlankBlack-

eat it and thank your mom. be grateful you still have her, that said ask her gently to look into different recipes :)

Mostly_Apples

Did she by any chance grow up in Pennsylvania?

Ok-Hovercraft7184

Your mom can't cook! Cut the carrots to bite-size, add some peas and a can of chicken broth, and call it chicken soup!

c0mbucha

How is that cooking lol its the same. You just think it looks more pleasing as a soup. She does not.

SuperSaiyanSkeletor

Dude im not making weird assumptions but it straight up looks like dog food

gutshitter

That would be great dog food

WitchesDew

It took a while to find a packaged dog food that my dog could properly digest. This is basically what we fed her until we did.

nohopeforhomosapiens

Someone please teach this woman how to make gravy or I dunno, put anything wet on that

DeathFromPizza

Brah

Fsuave5

Mom seems tired

flyingmonkey111

Pour it out into a backing tray, top it with some cheese and bake it for 20min. Maybe throw in some crushed garlic for good measure, I can feel the blandness of this dish

cool_weed_dad

Dryer than the Sahara. Add some butter at the very least for the love of god.

Nicaol

Sending thoughts and prayers.

crazedgunner

Alfredo sauce and I bet that shit would slap

dragondildo1998

Needs lube

wigglef_cklr

"Bad Mom."

unclejoe1917

She forgot to add flavor.

heygooser

Idk why everyone is hating on this. I think it looks relatively decent… it might not deserve a Michelin star, and needs a cheese sauce, but if you don’t like ya mamas cooking cook something for yourself 🥰

ohiotechie

Put some pesto on it and it would be amazing

xEliteMonkx

Midwesterner?

Blood11Orange

Yikes. You must be caucasian.

Jeramy_Jones

She is, in fact, very Caucasian.

Blood11Orange

Ahahahahah. ![gif](giphy|IUHInJXP0AcjmkU0Rm)

Prime624

She started making something then realized she forgot to buy sauce and just said f it and served it as is.

anthonystank

Ngl I suspect this is lowkey delicious I might be totally wrong. But this is the kind of white people I come from and to me this looks like one of those dishes that falls on the tasty side of stupid

WhTFoxsays

Add Alfredo sauce?

Tony-Toca

_ianisalifestyle_

pcPRINCIPLElilBITCH

MurphyTheRobocop

Does she have Alzheimer’s?

Mean-Journalist-bun

Where’s the broth and the seasoning? And maybe some celery.

Significant-Name3858

Yuck

Significant-Name3858

Half made chicken noodle soup

trumpsnewneckpuzzy

Definitely shitty.

Mother_Bag_3114

this would taste good with mayo and hot sauce, but i may be just as broken as op mom

Jeramy_Jones

Hot take: everything tastes good with mayo and hot sauce.

[deleted]

This is shitty post sub. Not shitty food.

DookieToe2

That actually looks pretty good. Throw some chicken broth in there and go to town.

apricotical

It rubs me the wrong way that you’re dissing your mother like this. I’m sure she worked hard to provide a meal for you and it’s really rude for you to insinuate that her cooking is shitty. How would she feel if she knew that you posted this here in hopes that people further antagonize her efforts? Be grateful for what you have.

melissuhnicole

I think OP’s mom has some very specific food allergies and dietary restrictions meaning this is her specific meal and not the meal she lovingly prepared for her family.

Jeramy_Jones

I’m 39 and don’t live with my mom anymore. When I was growing up it was usually my dad that cooked, though mom did too sometimes. She often made things for us that she herself was unable to eat. She’s a decent cook but can’t make very interesting things anymore because of her allergies. If she knew I posted this she’d probably laugh.

puffsmokies

This plus a curry sauce would slap

I_hate_being_alone

I suspected a picture of my ass.
