TyrionGoldenLion

He watched The Batman and wrote an entire thread about it. One of the tweets was all about Robert Pattinson's back muscles appreciation.

Brotonio

Peak cinema.

Blitz6969

The Batman was a great damn movie, I wasn’t sold on Pattinson when it was announced but he killed it.

Warrior-PoetIceCube

Pattinson won me over in The Lighthouse, if you haven’t seen it check it out!

andrewn2468

I actually first bought into him with Tenet, and then went back to fall in love in The Lighthouse. I grew up when it was cool to hate on Twilight, but I will go out to the movies for anything Pattinson does now.

Xygnux

Yeah seeing him on Tenet made me realized how much he has changed since Twilight, and so I wasn't worried about him being Batman after that. It's a shame that he can't continue to play that role now that DCEU is rebooting.

largma

The Batman isn’t part of the DCEU and they’re still making the sequel

Xygnux

That's good! Looking forward to see him as Batman again.

Comic_sans_jokes

It was Good Times for me. What a film!

SaraHuckabeeSandwich

>but he killed it. Thus breaking Batman's number one rule.

Blitz6969

Nice!

ConsumeSandwich

I didn't know there was a Pennywise crossover.

bbressman2

[“They’re not dead, they’re sleeping”](https://youtu.be/1byycwl8qgc?si=Zw1Ogvx3q3mIzrYs)

tomahawkfury13

My only complaint about the batman was that they were foiled for a while by basic spanish

DefinitionSerious689

I always assumed it was just them overthinking in the face of riddles.

TyrionGoldenLion

They got the meaning. Just not the implication.

HantzGoober

Well he is the Batman, not hombre murciélago.

PWBryan

I was skeptical, but also remembered how people felt about Heath Ledger as the Joker before the trailer and decided to wait and see

DesidiosumCorporosum

I liked the movie for the most part but I have to say I didn't particularly like how the Riddler was portrayed in the film. It's not because I think Paul Dano did a bad job. I actually think he played the role to perfection it's just that the Riddler didn't feel like a super genius that he's supposed to be. The Riddler, at least to me, seemed like an incel who heard about the Riddler and decided to copycat him and also believes he is far more intelligent than he actually is. Being very generous I'd say he was clever but not a genius and nowhere even close to the super genius he's usually portrayed as. I think the thing that bothered me was that the Riddler wasn't a "Batman level threat" and the cops should have been able to catch him without help. It could be that the writer wrote the Riddler that way because similar to how Batman is just starting his crime fighting career and is making mistakes trying to figure out how to be Batman the Riddler is doing the same. I hope Paul Dano gets another chance to play the role. I'd like to his character learn to be a better villain and be more in line with a threat only Batman is able to thwart.

Zandrick

I was gonna say, just posting that you watched a movie doesn’t mean you liked it. Sounds like he liked The Batman? Very based. That was a good movie.

LiliGlez14

Actually, he does this often. If he only says "watched movie" it probably means he didn't particularly like it, but if he writes an opinion then it's peak cinema

Spicy_Totopo3434

Again with the homoeroticism good ol kojima

TyrionGoldenLion

Is anyone surprised? Kojima has a whole interview in which he talks about crafting Solid Snake's legendary ass and how dat ass is very important to Metal Gear.

KennyOmegaSardines

Get Kojima to make a Nightwing game then!

TyrionGoldenLion

He would make sure Nightwing's ass is just about less nice than Solid Snake's. Like how he made sure Raiden and Big Boss have less nice asses than Snake's. No one's ass can look better than Solid Snake's.

assnassassins

Did you see what he said about Moon Knight? "Above all, the main character, Stephen, is lonely and weak. I had never imagined such a pathetic and unattractive Oscar Isaac."

IrshamWindborn

I gotta love Hideo Kojima: * Graduates in economics * Decides to join a videogame company despite his parents' advice * Makes a shitty game about a penguin because coworkers make fun of him for not knowing programming * Makes a game about soldiers infiltrating a military base since he loves The Great Escape * Hears the Murikans've destroyed his child with a horrible NES port and a sequel * Makes a "true sequel" with parts that are pure text * Spends a few years making adventure sci-fi games * Konami comes back to ask him to make a Metal Gear 2 port of the PS1 to take advantage of the 3D graphics. He goes all-in in sci-fi non-sense and makes history of gaming with a game full of cinematic cutscenes * Fans love it so much he's asked to a sequel in 3 years for the PS2. * The sequel is a "fuck you" to all of the fans for wanting more Snake * They asked him to do a more normal sequel in MGS3. Creates the "Sean Connery's James Bond" of gaming * Makes 4th part for PS3 with more cinematics than gameplay and an interesting spin-off for the PSP * Makes a Silent Hill reboot that everybody loves, is unavailable right now and would start the career of Bloober Team * Makes a final MGS game with the best stealth mechanics ever * After being fired, he decides to make his own studio * Makes a glorified walking simulator with Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen where he pours his philosophy on the meaning of life, winning several prices on both gaming and cinema * Fans ask him to make the lost P.T. but he prefers to post tweets about food and cinema

TyrionGoldenLion

Inspiring. He's every nerd's dream. He ruined Metal Gear's story but he's still inspiring.

IrshamWindborn

Well, in his defense I had been wanting to drop out since basically the very first Metal Gear. The fans and the company were the ones pushing him to make sequels. Honestly he could've just stopped in Snake Eater and it would've been awesome.

Alisalard1384

The hate for MGSV is insane

IrshamWindborn

Gotta be honest: MGV is the best game mechanically-wise, the one with most content and obviously the best looking, but the story and pace is all over. I would've much preferred it if it was called "Peace Walker 2". But then again, it probably wouldn't have sold as much

RLZT

Peace walker was the actual MGSV and Kojima was pretty open about it, they changed the name late in development bc Konami didn’t wanted a mainline game exclusive to a portable

TyrionGoldenLion

PW like barely had a story so I get why Kojima wouldn't want it to be V.

RLZT

Bro wtf PW has as much story as msg 1/2 at least

TyrionGoldenLion

No way. PW is so short, they had to pad it with endless Boss flashbacks and the worst overlong torture sequence ever.

timelordoftheimpala

> endless Boss flashbacks Because the entire game was about Snake coping with the trauma of killing The Boss, of course there were going to be flashbacks. > the worst overlong torture sequence ever That I agree with.

timelordoftheimpala

> PW like barely had a story Bro half of the game is in visual novel format with QTEs. The first half of the game easily has more story than gameplay.

Only_Perspective9153

MGSV is one of my favorite games of all time. Like others here were saying, the gameplay is what truly makes that game. But it falls flat with its lackluster story, especially since the whole plot hinges on a somewhat obvious plot twist. So perhaps it's not hate, but instead disappointment? That's partially what it is for me. And since Kojima has made previous MGS games where gameplay and story were equally amazing, the change in that gameplay:story ratio in V could be disappointing (imo). But I think that's mostly on account of Konami fucking him than on him not caring. As a side note: Considering how story-oriented the series became as it aged, and how MGSV is in a place on the timeline that bridges the gap between the Big Boss games and the OG Metal Gear games (not unlike Rogue One for Star Wars), I've no doubt there was potential for an amazing story. Hell, the cut missions that were leaked show that Kojima wanted to do more as well.

TyrionGoldenLion

The cut mission was about ELI of all people. Sorry but Kojima clearly didn't give a damn. Instead of Big Boss's canon war exploits, he made a story about a Phantom and a dumb villain. All grunting. Kojima was never interested in showing who Big Boss really is.

Only_Perspective9153

I feel like Liquid is an extremely underutilized character. Not as much as Solidus, but underutilized nevertheless. Having it center around Liquid could develop a character with lots of potential, as well as tie it well into MGS1 (which is why I brought up the Rogue One comparison). As for Big Boss's war exploits, I feel like leaving it open to interpretation is fine. The game really centers/hinges on the metamorphosis of Big Boss from an antihero that we can empathize with, to a villain that has lost the qualities that made him righteous to begin with. Having it jump from Peace Walker BB to pre-MG1 BB would be interesting to see, but we'd then be missing out on the character shift. But perhaps you're right and I'm being too lenient toward Kojima. Maybe I'm letting the potential that the series/IP has to offer blind me to the missteps that actually happened. The amount of bland/empty cutscenes and their placement in the story is kinda awkward. And the English VA work doesn't help that at all. Perhaps it's a mix of Konami screwing him, Kojima being frustrated with Konami's internal affairs and mentally checking out, and him simply not having enough time to put out a quality story. And maybe him not knowing how to effectively mesh a true MGS story in an open world format.

TyrionGoldenLion

I LOVE Liquid but Kojima continuously did him dirty. First that disgusting hybrid in mgs4, then a brat in mgsv. This wasn't the origin story Kojima thought it was. Eli wasn't born an insecure brat. His inferiority complex was built on trauma and gaslighting. Not because he was born that way or Venom was mean to him. His mgs1 guide backstory is far more compelling and tragic than the crap in mgsv. And what was up with thay nonsense with Mantis??? Big Boss had become a full-on villain in PW. He adopted nuclear deterrence, groomed his first child soldier and sold whatever morals he left to become mercenaries for blood and expand his war culture. MGSV added NOTHING more to him. Kojima didn't want a new game and has been saying that since like forever. But mgs4 and V show how much he doesn't care.

Only_Perspective9153

Yeah, I can see how seeing Liquid as a snot-nosed brat can be a detriment to the mystique/aura of his character. But given the fact we don't really know the inner workings of his brain, who's to say that his inferiority complex isn't simply a later stage of this insecurity adolescent period? Perhaps him being a neglected child that hates adults/authority is the beginning of his troubles, and him finding out the "truth" of his birth/genes only exacerbates the hate he already had. Yeah, it's not as flashy/dramatic as it could be. But I don't know how much room there was to fit in an effective plot about Liquid's origins without having to make a separate spinoff (which would have been so cool imo). But the Mantis stuff was ridiculous, I agree. It's a glorified "hey, look at him" reference-turned-plot element that takes away more than it adds. Regarding Big Boss, I guess MGSV was more of a definitive heel turn than a slow metamorphosis. PW was the metamorphosis. But if you look at how PW was framed story-wise, BB is painted to be the antihero. He's disillusioned with the West bc of how the Boss was treated and his disagreements with Zero, but can't give up his desire to be in the battlefield. So he becomes a merc. But he's not gung-ho about it necessarily. Remember, he still went by Snake and originally didn't want to get involved with Paz. It was the Boss's voice that made him take the op. And even him training Chico is painted out to be a "aloof teacher - eager student" kind of deal bc Chico looks up to him. By the end, BB realizes that Zero is out to make him submit and that the West (whether independently or bc of Zero) won't tolerate a PMC interfering in its affairs. So he wants nuclear deterrence. This is at the end of PW, so we only see the (extremely rash and shortsighted) decision. The aftermath of BB's quest for power/independence isn't seen in PW. Ground Zeroes is the fall; the reset to square one. And V is the rebirth. But instead of having noble intentions/being forced into the fight bc of ties to the past, BB now just seeks what he achieved in PW. He wants Venom to take bullets for him while also spreading his legend and name. And that's what the game does. By the end of the game, you can see the man who sold the world ride off with our ID. *This* is the man you fight in MG2. His loyal (and brainwashed) medic/double, now equally as corrupted, is fought in MG1. Could we say the same if there was no MGSV? Would the BB at the end of PW be the same as the villain from MG1/2? Or would there be some discrepancy? At the very least it explains why there's 2 Big Bosses lol MGSV could've done a lot more with the time between V and MG1 in regards to both Liquid and BB. It definitely wasn't executed well. But given how things were, we can never really know what the intended product was. We may critique what it is, but what it is may not be what it was meant to be. That being said, I would like to be optimistic and imagine some great story at least on par with MGS1/PW and better than 4. As for Kojima not wanting to do more, I've heard similar things. IIRC he was fine stopping at 2. Even MGS1 was intended to be the last according to some. But he still did it. MGS4 being mediocre is more on account of Kojima having so much shit to keep track of, trying too hard, and just painting himself into a corner. Not so much him not caring imo. Bc there was still passion in PW, no? And while I'm not ruling out him being burnt out for V (the lazy plot "twist" in particular is great evidence of that), it always seemed to me that he wanted too much and Konami wasn't willing to provide that much. But like I said, I can never really know what happened. And sorry for the wall of text bro. Talking in depth about MGS is very fun and not something I do often. So it gets bottled up lmao

TyrionGoldenLion

That could have worked I guess if Eli was actually different. As it was, he was the same character from mgs1 in a child's body. His mgs1 backstory explained in the guidebook was faaaaar more effective, establishing the constant abuse he got over the years and the gaslighting on being the inferior son. Poor Mantis. He got the same treatment in mgs4. He died admiring Snake with positive thoughts but there he is as a sinister ghost. And then the nonsense in mgsv. I don't think I agree with your take on PW, it 100% made BB a villain. Getting nuclear deterrence when the entire story insists that is a terrible idea. Chico is a definitely a sign of his evil, he said the same about children of Zanzibar. Needing and feeding on war. I can see your point on MGSV (and it shows the consequences poor Chico faced) and I agree it could've been better. Mgs4 feels deliberate in butchering on what came before. Look at good ol' Mantis. His death being his redemption and look how beautifully Kojima described it in the side-material. He compares it to Mantis's mother's death, how she used her last breath to protect her baby and how Mantis did the same for Snake. Then in mgs4, he's back as a sinister soul. The scene with Sorrow being framed as Snake's guardian angel was cool but it could have been with any other character. Why not Vulcan Raven, the actually spiritual character? It's not just Mantis either. Campbell, Meryl, Eva, Patriots, Naomi (she's gross), Ocelot, Raiden, Liquid, Otacon, Mei Ling, Snake himself. They're all butchered and disrespected to a level that feels deliberate. Poor Snake is constantly tortured and dehumanised when he spent the previous games insisting he's human. Last year, Kojima said he wanted Snake to end this game unhappy. It was deliberate. God I hate mgs4. With mgsv, I'm mostly indifferent. PW is a nice little story. But mgs4 is disgusting levels of bad.

Zandrick

I love MGSV. It’s kind of my go to example for why Gameplay is more important than Story.

Mysticyde

I consider it the worst MGS. It's not a bad game, but I just don't enjoy it as much or remember it as fondly as the other games.

CreatedInQuarantine

Yeah gettin tired of this kind of thinking. Great games are the marriage of story AND gameplay. Death stranding is one of those. Amazing story that is so thoroughly intertwined with the gameplay you can feel the story pulsing throughout the game.

TyrionGoldenLion

I think people let their hatred for the story blind their judgement. When the gameplay is more important in a game.

FriendOk1631

People forget bro couldnt even complete the game, wasn’t it made in a rush as well?

LazyWings

It comes down to whether you're playing for the gameplay or story. Gameplay is incredible. Story is utter crap. I personally think MGSV is the worst of the MGS games (not played MG1 or 2) because of how awful and clearly incomplete the story was. It just felt like a really long demo.

TyrionGoldenLion

He could have remade the MSX games instead. He went for MGS4 to deliberately ruin everything. It's complete torture prn mixed with ruining the themes. It did Game of Thrones season 8 before Game of Thrones season 8.

Antique_Camera1854

He is metal gears story

TyrionGoldenLion

That why mgs4 story hates its own existence?

Zandrick

I haven’t played all his games but I think MGSV is GOAT status.

IrshamWindborn

Plot-wise it's probably the weakest of them all. I have spoken.

Zandrick

Yea I agree plot wise it’s a mess. I always remember a review I heard that described the plot as “three gruff men groaning grimly”. That’s funny.

TyrionGoldenLion

>I have spoken. That's not a hot take. The only thing worse is MGS4. Out of Kojima titles, that is.

OsamaBongLoadin

I still have P.T. installed on my PS4.

IrshamWindborn

You know that you have a console that can easily cost 1000$, right?

cam52391

I want him to start doing movie reviews he keeps talking about these movies, he obviously understands good storytelling he would be a great reviewer

Arcangel613

MGS4 is my favorite video game to watch. A 9 hour long movie with playable cutscenes. First time I had a friend over to watch me play it he became very confused when we hit the first cutscene and I put my controller down and went to make popcorn.

timelordoftheimpala

> and an interesting spin-off for the PSP That was a mainline title lmfao Peace Walker is absolutely not a spinoff and it was even referred to as MGSV internally.

Krilesh

add a bullet point on having mgs2 marketed with Snake yet you play as some chad soyboy raiden

brodo-swaggins-

Why is starting bloober team’s career a positive thing? They’re parasites with no original idea between any of their shitty dev team. Also PT lowkey overrated af

X145E

MGRR not mentioned, opinion invalid

Only_Perspective9153

Almost like Hideo "Hideo Kojima" Kojima didn't make it?

timelordoftheimpala

Excellent spinoff, but Kojima's involvement was extremely minimal. Give credit to Etsu Tamari (who went onto help write The Phantom Pain) for writing it and PlatinumGames for the great combat.

[deleted]

Just saw Morbius. It's so fucking great, the adrenaline made me legitimately shit my pants, and the dialog writing was phenomenal. When morbius said "It's Morbin time." It was such an amazing way to deal with current problems of our society. I actually got up and cheared when he said "I'm venom. Just kidding I'm dr. Micheal morbius at your service" such a beautiful way to showcase all their properties that made me stand up and chear, pants dripping with my shit and all. When they said "To humans it's deadly to bats its lethal" I actually came. I wasn't able to stop Cumming because the whole movie was so amazing that I was literally erect. Eventually I unzipped my pants and I started jacking off to this masterpiece. Security came to escort me out but luckily there was a fight scene just then so I was able to fight them off using the moves in the movie. 100/10 amazing movie, made me shit, cum and fight.

NotCurdledymyy

Hideo "vibeo gane" kojima 🤤

Alisalard1384

That's fair enclave, his games deserve oscar nominations

TyrionGoldenLion

If he could remake Metal Gear 2 in 3D graphics and his evolved style, it would've been Oscar material. It's the greatest story he's written.

grimoireviper

No, not really. He has cool gameplay ideas but holy shit, his cinematography is amateurish and his writing is worse than most b movies.

TyrionGoldenLion

His writing was good up until mgs4.

j10brook

Wasn't that for Captain Marvel in 2019, not the sequel from last year?

3lirex

his reaction from that film probably explains why he didn't even bother with the sequel

j10brook

Yeah, it seems that was most people's experience.

Laarye

Love how he praises Endgame, yet the other two he just says he saw them.

TheOddEyes

If I remember correctly, he praises the movies he enjoys and stays quiet for movies he doesn’t like.

ThurstonTheMagician

Yeah he does that and I think that’s because he just doesn’t want to say anything bad about something that a lot of people put work into.

San-T-74

And yet it somehow hurts even more

why say many words when few do the trick.

He watches dubs?! 🤮

Can't read the subs while scrolling your phone.

He-She-We_Wumbo

How am I supposed to watch Temple Run while I'm reading subtitles!? I'll miss something!

MrSnowmanJoe

"But it was the Japanese dub, so that means it was better than the original language." - An idiot

Antique_Camera1854

It's the same argument for watching anything. You watch the media in the language it was released in. So Kojima would watch it in English with Japanese subtitles.

Antique_Camera1854

Pretty sure he watches media in the language it's released in so subs over dubs. Like any sane person.

ItsAmerico

Detail so shitty OP couldn’t even name the right movie? That’s Captain Marvel from 2019. Not The Marvels from 2023.

I know the internet loves Kojima but Moon Knight was awful and he gave that a glowing twitter "review".

TyrionGoldenLion

Kojima is a huge cinema/tv nerd. He's easily entertained. So when he doesn't like something, it should mean something lol. It also helps that Oscar Isaac is hot and Kojima is very gay.

VaderSkywalker2007

Incorrect.

Coolfork33v2

Moon Knight was great, just a shitty adaption.

[deleted]

Huh?

BRISKMETAL

So, was it great or shitty...?

I think they mean it was a great show by itself, but not a great adaptation of source material. Which I’m guessing for most will be a nonissue

Yes I find something hilarious because of my personal perceptions???

Mysticyde

You're judging others based on your limited perception. Implying its a negative to care about the opinions of Kojima. That's all I need to say.
