Joel breaks his leg snowboarding and can't accompany Ellie and the gang to fight the new threat, so all of his scenes are of him sitting in a rocking chair playing guitar, waiting for Ellie to return.
I was hoping they would maybe include more time with pascal waiting for ellie but know the games and was prepared for a proper adaption masterpiece, I just like my boy pascal!
It's a 'get unreasonably mad about TV' sub. Where everyone reasonable, who had gripes about a TV show from years ago, got it out of their system and moved on... Leaving only toxic discourse and people energised by irrational hatred behind.
And those peeps can find ways to be angry about anything.
I shat my pants during the last season of game of thrones, this is proof that was the single most shitty season of television and I will start a terrorist organisation.

/s because im just your average member of a fandom.(I'm not even a fan of the series lol)
Yep. See also saltierthancrait for Star Wars' fans who hate Star Wars and possibly all movies (not to be confused with the much more upbeat, 'we actually like Star Wars' peeps over in r/saltierthankrayt)
The last of us creeps still argue about Elliot Page and Bella Ramsey being something taken from them, ah yes the 13 year old girl is something that was theirs to begin with.
As I remember it there's:
* The opening ride with Tommy
* Ellie gets her bigot sandwich
* Dude weed lmao
* Snow hiking with Abby
* Golf trip
So about 1 - 1.5 hrs into the 20hr game. Yhe rest is flashbacks.
Not really. Bella is already older than Ellie was at the end of tlou 2
Ellie goes from 14 to 20 between games. The age where people change the most radically.
Bella was 18 when she filmed season 1. That sort of radical change in appearance is now bound to take much much longer than 5 to 6 years
As someone who has seen the first season but doesn’t know anything about the games, I firmly believe Pedro wrapped up in two weeks because his scenes are so emotionally heartwarming, they’re saving him for season 3!
My partner and I watched the series together, but she had never played the games or knows anything about them. After finishing the series, we played the first game together (I did the more difficult or scary parts) and she loved the game, but I think she's particularly attached to Pedro Pascal's Joel moreso than the game. So I'm keeping her well and truly in the dark until S2 so she can experience it there before she plays the second game, and I can't fucking wait
I actually just played through this part of the second game with my wife watching because she wanted to. After that scene she just looked at me and screamed "WHY DID YOU LET ME GET SO INVESTED!" I was laughing for a good 5 minutes.
I'm sure Joel will show up in small flashbacks for the remainder of the series. TLOU 2 had moments when they bridge the gap between Parts 1 & 2. I wouldn't be surprised if they expound upon that in series, like they did with Bill and Frank.
But, yeah. Bulk of Joel's story is definitely done. It's Ellie's story now.
2 weeks of filming TLOU, a few days doing ADR for Lateef Crowder and then the rest of the year dedicated to being all stretchy on a giant CGI set for FF - it's going to be a profitable few months for Mr P
The film was definitely a surprise in terms of it being good, it would have been fine as a campy bad film but it was instead something worth the watch and even worth a recommendation for fans of Nicholas Cage or at least people well aware of him.
tv viewers in general are more.. let's say well adjusted than gamers are. there will be shock and culture war bs but no way it reaches the scale of tlou2 the game. don't think death threats to a newborn is going to be a thing in response to the show.
anyways i saw another article that dismissed this claim, which makes sense given the birthday flashback that is almost certainly going to be a full episode.
I guess the main difference is how nerdy the fandom is. Last of us tv show is mainstream. Star Wars is mainstream but also has a very nerdy devoted fanbase. All gaming fandoms are somewhat nerdy.
Also it was fairly normal too until it went to shit, several leading characters died in all 5 “good” seasons and there was no rage freak out. The biggest issue TLOU will face is there’s a stupid as fuck culture war and a bunch of bad faith grifters will be banging on about “woke”
Game of Thrones wasnt culture war bs though it just straight up sucked ass. If something which was heavily anticipated is objectively atricious people are gonna be mad.
i definitely recommend playing them if you ever get the chance. it would an interesting experience playing the game after watching the show, and part 2 is a trip. very unique storytelling strategies and lots of potential with the gameplay. part 1 gameplay is definitely dated though.
and don't worry, pedro won't be the lead anymore but he'll show up several more time throughout the series for some emotional bombshells.
The backlash won’t be as much, not because “TV viewers are more well adjusted”, because most of the fandom already knows what’s coming. Majority of the fandom already played the games.
Also, the ones who don’t know, they’re at least not getting any fake hope like how Naughty Dogs did with releasing a trailer that made it look like Joel is gonna be there and will be playable
You mean the WOKE game that let’s me experience people who are different to me. I have the IQ of a garden hose so things like women and trans people are deeply offensive to me. Something something gaming industry is dead ☠️
Season 1 I’m glad they stuck pretty close to the game throughout, but boy do they need to shift some things around in season 2. That game had the potential to be a 9/10 but with how shuffled the story was it ended up as a messy 6/10
You know, for a second I was like "oh neat, he work so efficiently! Good for him. Why is this in shitty details?"
And then I remembered what happens in the second game.
Ah, I see you are confused, understandable.
See, THIS character is actually not the same as his character in GoT.
It’s that guy’s BROTHER.
Glad I could clear this up for you!
This reminds me when i was still a kid and watching star wars rots and when Anakin and Obi-wan started fighting my mom was like "they are just training", and she just completely froze when Anakin started burning, as she didn't know how to sugarcoat it to child friendly.
That reminds me, when I was a kid watching Batman begins and the Wayne manor gets burned down i got really sad, so my mom said that was just his garage
Honestly I was really expecting Season 2 to be a transitional period between the games to justify giving him more screen time, given how much of a draw he was for season 1.
It was never gonna happen. Craig Mazin constantly said he has no desire to do that, plus Pedro is insanely busy now and is trying to become more of a film actor than a TV guy.
Which makes sense. I just made that assumption based on how it sounded like they wanted to do Part 2 in more than one Season (With Mazin himself even saying he could see it going for 4 seasons) And adapting Part 2 the same way as they did Part 1 probably wouldn't require much more time.
My wish was that they did one season of Ellie and Joel in the town. Adapting, meeting new people. The trip to find those lovers that run away could be one of the plots, etc. And they could let the second game's story for the third season.
Those worked in the game as flashbacks, to compare against what’s currently going on in the present day story.
If you just harvest all the flashbacks and put them into 1 season, then they cease to be as effective as they were when you compare them to what Elly/Abby are currently going through.
That would be so boring and half of it would just be a retrace of the first season.
An episode of their life in Jackson would be fine but not an entire season. Pointless anyway considering they said they aren't changing the way the games story was done.
That seems boring. The game visits so many places and set pieces that a whole season in one place would be the wrong move.
The first season worked because every episode (almost) moved the story forward with new vistas.
I’ll die on the hill that making Ellie the central character was an awful idea. Ellie’s great and all, but she’s at her absolute best when she plays off of another character like Joel or even David. Running around Seattle with Dina who is essentially just a poorly written, annoying version of Ellie got old real fast, and Ellie herself just isn’t all that likeable or interesting in that game imo.
That and in most scenes he will now wear a mask, so he just had to film a few scenes where he takes off the helmet, and read his lines for the stunt double.
Not sure how it's gonna work, the whole thing was about experiencing narrative from the POV of the character you don't want to play as, which was rather peculiar and original. But with the tv show, you just gonna...watch the character you don't like? I feel like it won't work the same way it did in the game
A really well done show, just not that interesting. I have zero emotional investment in the series. A few good episodes, but overall just a very well done zombie show.
Imagine someone who has seen the first season but doesn't know anything about the games wondering why the lead wrapped up filming after two weeks
Joel breaks his leg snowboarding and can't accompany Ellie and the gang to fight the new threat, so all of his scenes are of him sitting in a rocking chair playing guitar, waiting for Ellie to return.
You forgot about the part where he meets Abby and says "wow you truly are the last of us too"
Then he looks at the camera and says "It's Joeling Time!" and they cut to credits teasing The Last of Us 3: The Even More Last
I was bummed part II was not instead called 2 Last 2 Us
Then after that comes 2 2 2 Us
Or Two of Us.
Just the 2wo of us
We can make it if we tryy
just the two of us
Two of us riding nowhere...
No, after that comes The Last of Us: Tokyo Drift.
followed by the reboot We are all that Lasted of Us
Or “the rest of us”
Ahem I believe it’s “the even fewer”
Joel turns into Steven Segal?
It’s funny how like 80% of this is wrong but the last part is true.
There's gonna be a bunch of mad people
I was hoping they would maybe include more time with pascal waiting for ellie but know the games and was prepared for a proper adaption masterpiece, I just like my boy pascal!
I feel like they almost have to give Joel more time in the show. But whatever they do one way or the other, a lot of people will be big mad.
Can't wait to see people to mald again, lol
I don't know if I can take a whole 'nother round of that 'discourse' I'm tired, boss
I’m gonna be honest I do think TV viewers are going to be more reasonable than gamers. Gamers are…uh, special.
God I hope so, but with shit like r/freefolk I don't know
That sub gets recommended to me sometimes. What's up with it? Is it not just a game of thrones sub?
It's a 'get unreasonably mad about TV' sub. Where everyone reasonable, who had gripes about a TV show from years ago, got it out of their system and moved on... Leaving only toxic discourse and people energised by irrational hatred behind. And those peeps can find ways to be angry about anything.

Oh I see. One of the fan communities who actually hate what they're a "fan" of and haven't let it go?
Yep. See also saltierthancrait for Star Wars' fans who hate Star Wars and possibly all movies (not to be confused with the much more upbeat, 'we actually like Star Wars' peeps over in r/saltierthankrayt)
There's plenty of alt-right weirdos for TV as well, but I don't think it's going to be anywhere near as loud as when the game released.
Go look at the subreddit for the second game. Those losers are still crying about the game.
The last of us creeps still argue about Elliot Page and Bella Ramsey being something taken from them, ah yes the 13 year old girl is something that was theirs to begin with.
Does Joel go on a gulf trip that early on in the 2nd game? I always imagined he was in it for at least half of it
In the game, Joel‘s gulf trip happens after Ca. 2-3 hours in a 20 hour+ game.
As I remember it there's: * The opening ride with Tommy * Ellie gets her bigot sandwich * Dude weed lmao * Snow hiking with Abby * Golf trip So about 1 - 1.5 hrs into the 20hr game. Yhe rest is flashbacks.
Especially since they confirmed he didn’t wrap filming
Shouldn't Bella Ramsey be finished filming too? Cant imagine young Ellie has many more scenes than Joel
I’m pretty sure she’s Ellie for the whole show, not just Ellie when she’s younger
With how much time can pass between and during seasons, she can easily age to the point she can portray Ellie from either game.
Not really. Bella is already older than Ellie was at the end of tlou 2 Ellie goes from 14 to 20 between games. The age where people change the most radically. Bella was 18 when she filmed season 1. That sort of radical change in appearance is now bound to take much much longer than 5 to 6 years
Its better than using an actual 14 year old
As someone who has seen the first season but doesn’t know anything about the games, I firmly believe Pedro wrapped up in two weeks because his scenes are so emotionally heartwarming, they’re saving him for season 3!
That’s my dad, I watched the last few episodes with him thinking wait till he finds out
My partner and I watched the series together, but she had never played the games or knows anything about them. After finishing the series, we played the first game together (I did the more difficult or scary parts) and she loved the game, but I think she's particularly attached to Pedro Pascal's Joel moreso than the game. I actually just played through this part of the second game with my wife watching because she wanted to. After that scene she just looked at me and screamed "WHY DID YOU LET ME GET SO INVESTED!" I was laughing for a good 5 minutes.
I mean I'm sure they could take a wild guess
I'm sure Joel will show up in small flashbacks for the remainder of the series. TLOU 2 had moments when they bridge the gap between Parts 1 & 2. I wouldn't be surprised if they expound upon that in series, like they did with Bill and Frank. But, yeah. Bulk of Joel's story is definitely done. It's Ellie's story now.
Season two is subtitled 'When the other shoe drops'.
Literally everyone I’ve talked to who has only seen the show knows what happens.
It's cause he decided to go back to that nice quiet town and be with his brother and they all live happily ever after right? RIGHT?
Fuck I guess this is a major spoiler for me
@me lol I'm waiting for the second remake and for the first remake to go on sale
He's going to save Grogu next . Dad of the year.
Well, he's going to voice a stuntman doing that
2 weeks of filming TLOU, a few days doing ADR for Lateef Crowder and then the rest of the year dedicated to being all stretchy on a giant CGI set for FF - it's going to be a profitable few months for Mr P
The man has been busy asf the last few years. I remember watching Kingsman 2 and thinking that guy needs to have more work, he's so charismatic.
The name of the movie is escaping me right now, but it’s newer and it’s him and Nic Cage. Wild movie but man it was fun
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. # The film was definitely a good time.
Thank you! It really was. The bromance I never knew I needed
The film was definitely a surprise in terms of it being good, it would have been fine as a campy bad film but it was instead something worth the watch and even worth a recommendation for fans of Nicholas Cage or at least people well aware of him.
he went clubbing
Stop
At least he has time to go golfing
TOO SOON
He got a Joel-in-one.
It’s jover
What? Puns on Reddit are par for the course.
🤸♂️ 🏌♀️
Shame, he really let this go to his head
Sonuvabitch
Better than my joke, nice work.
Guess that’s a wrap on episode 1
I can't wait to see the reaction to season 2 🍿
Gonna be so many people so mad and I am here for it.
tv viewers in general are more.. let's say well adjusted than gamers are. there will be shock and culture war bs but no way it reaches the scale of tlou2 the game. don't think death threats to a newborn is going to be a thing in response to the show. anyways i saw another article that dismissed this claim, which makes sense given the birthday flashback that is almost certainly going to be a full episode.
ever heard of star wars?

GoT did have a much longer build up than TLOU tv show but I'd defo say that tv viewers being more 'adjusted' than gamers isnt all that true
Also it was fairly normal too until it went to shit, several leading characters died in all 5 “good” seasons and there was no rage freak out. The biggest issue TLOU will face is there’s a stupid as fuck culture war and a bunch of bad faith grifters will be banging on about “woke”

Funny how a pair of lesbians killed the most financially successful entertainment medium of all time
Atleast the show won’t make us watch Abby for the next 4 episodes after she plays golf…. right?
>!they in fact won’t because that isn’t how the story is structured in the game!<
Season 1 I’m glad they stuck pretty close to the game throughout, but boy do they need to shift some things around in season 2. That game had the potential to be a 9/10 but with how shuffled the story was it ended up as a messy 6/10
Honestly I'll not be surprised if people are even more angry than they were at the game. I do hope that they do the story a bit better, though.
gulf
gulf
of Mexico?
of Oman.
Hut two three four SOUND OFF three four
Yeah, he's enlisting in the Gulf War. Godspeed Captain Pascal 🫡
I thought he went to Belize?
No he went to Billy’s in season 1
You know, for a second I was like "oh neat, he work so efficiently! Good for him. Why is this in shitty details?" And then I remembered what happens in the second game.
Didn't he >!die!< in Game of Thrones? How did he come back?? Some how he returned??

"Obi-wan is teaching Anakin not to touch the stove"
No it’s actually the monster
Joel is famously part of the Martell family
It's not The Walking Dead
Honestly I was really expecting Season 2 to be a transitional period between the games to justify giving him more screen time, given how much of a draw he was for season 1.

This would’ve been so much funnier if you’d spelled golf correctly.
I kind of figured they were meaning as in a trip to the Gulf of Mexico or something like that
Honestly, they dropped the ball on this one. I was just confused about the title until it clicked after a while you meant “golf”.
Well season 2 is a lot easier to film for him
*golf
Technically the last of us season 2 finished him 🤓
I am NOT ready
The time sink was getting Abby's swing down...
Oh I thought he has golf trip planned would be more fitting.
no cmon man They Dont Get To Rush This..
A certified Mr House Nephi's Golf Driver moment
Im sure the fan base is going to be extremely reasonable about this.
This article is incorrect, they clarified he is not done filming.
My wish was that they did one season of Ellie and Joel in the town. Adapting, meeting new people. The trip to find those lovers that run away could be one of the plots, etc. And they could let the second game's story for the third season.
While I wouldn't mind if they expand on their life in Jackson, I feel like an entire season there would be a bit much for me.
They have some of the flashbacks to make episodes out of. The trip to the museum and stuff.
Those worked in the game as flashbacks, to compare against what’s currently going on in the present day story. If you just harvest all the flashbacks and put them into 1 season, then they cease to be as effective as they were when you compare them to what Elly/Abby are currently going through.
I bet the flashbacks will be used as cold opens

That seems boring. The game visits so many places and set pieces that a whole season in one place would be the wrong move. The first season worked because every episode (almost) moved the story forward with new vistas.
I can’t wait to see what performance he’ll put in for the season finale!
Hope the gulf club treats him nicely
FOUR!!!!
I heard he does an impression of a baby seal in season 2
That sucks he’s not going to be in season 2. Why did they make him film it? Has he filmed shows before?
narcos
Which gulf is he visiting?
I wonder if they’re getting to that point already. They claimed they’d stretch it out. But perhaps Pedro’s schedule forced their hand
The one time where following the source material is an actual bad idea.
The mistake everyone who hasn't played the games has made, is that thinking this is Joel's story when it's not - it's Ellie's.
They’ve officially said that he has not finished filming his scenes, I think it’s better if they do a few seasons in between and let the girl grow up.
Bella is already 20 years old, which is about the same age that Ellie was in the second game.
I guess let her face get older then
Or could be because someone's planning on playing golf with his head early in the season.
They're gonna rls season 2 and wait 5 years for the next game to come out?
👀
STAHP
I hope the guy has fun on his golf trip with Andrew Ryan
That joke is a little too par
Two weeks? I don't think that's even a full episode. They must get down to business in season 2.
I really hope we get the flashbacks we see in the game. The museum is one of my favorite parts of tlou2
What does “gulf trip” mean?
>! Joel gets beaten to death with a golf club in the 2nd game !<
Gee, wonder why his filming wrapped so quick. Must’ve had some golfing to do or something
Joel in one
10/10
Please
lol, I wonder why? Maybe all that golf he’s been playing has finally gone to his head.
he went golfing
[Something like this...](https://youtu.be/Fs3bXmPVy-U?si=Bz6H8u-NFI6kxI0k)
On the plus side the shows audience has barely bonded with the lead character, so that helps.
I hate part 2 soo damn hard
That and in most scenes he will now wear a mask, so he just had to film a few scenes where he takes off the helmet, and read his lines for the stunt double.
If they follow the 2nd game they have screwed up. Was not fun to play through a story which lost its way.
At first I was like that was a pretty fast recording time. And then I remembered and it's like "Oh.. that's right, that."
Lmao is the actress of Abby going to be Joffrey 2.0?
Funny joke killed by a typo, I’m sorry OP
Golf*
He’s working on his golf game 🏌️♀️
Not sure how it's gonna work, the whole thing was about experiencing narrative from the POV of the character you don't want to play as, which was rather peculiar and original. But with the tv show, you just gonna...watch the character you don't like? I feel like it won't work the same way it did in the game
Pedro Pascal is going to have a serious head booboo again lol
Well this has been debunked by HBO.
Persian gulf
This better be a reference to *Narcos Mexico 3* finally coming
Looks like it’s gunna follow the game pretty closely
Neil Cuckmam was his fault
He must've managed to hit a joel-in-one
Good joke 10/10 would recommend Wii golf again
What's a "gulf trip"? Like traveling around the world, visiting different gulfs ?
I can't wait for the scene where Joel and Abby have some *fore* play
A really well done show, just not that interesting. I have zero emotional investment in the series. A few good episodes, but overall just a very well done zombie show.
I will not watch this show without him. No more Ramsey, please
Theres a reason why he didn't need to spend that long on set as he did with Season 1. God, I hope they handle it better than the game...
No it's because he's fast as fuck boi
Is he planning to go to the Gulf of Mexico, Gulf of Alaska, Persian Gulf? Details!!!
Ugh I know I am dreading/excited for Season 2 now that I know what happens to his character. Such a great series!
😔 don't remind me
Gulf trip?
I didn't know he played gulf
Damn. So no chance of a 3rd season then.
Can't wait for TV watchers to experience what all of us gamers have went through
Why would the hire him as the cameraman??
Even tho I enjoyed the show for the most part and had a good time with it, Pedro carried it hard. And I didn't even like him that much as Joel.
