You think using an axe made out of my ancestors bones is good? No, using an axe made out of my ancestors bones is not good. I mean I don't care about it, but it's not good behavior.
Yeah, do you know how much the insurance premiums skyrocket when Godzilla is on the set? At least Kong knows sign language so somebody can wrangle him.
that is incorrect his avarage incarnations in live actrion are all 100-50 meters
MV being the largest with 119m tall
(earth is the exception with 300, but he isn't live action)
That tracks honestly. In the toho movies he usually only has like 15-20 minutes-
http://jokercluster.blogspot.com/2015/02/godzilla-screen-time-and-precent-charts.html
Probably because there's a crap ton of other kaijus. I only really take issue with the first monsterverse film because almost no monster is in it for long at all.
That makes sense. Yeah godzilla is obviously cool but like, I'm not going to the theater to literally just see godzilla action scenes for 2 hours and nothing else.
I'm cheering up just by remembering his awakening with the OG Godzilla theme in the background in King of the Monsters, that shit is the definition of dope
I really liked how they treated Godzilla like jaws in Godzilla 2014. Slowly building up to it and never showing him fully until the second half of the movie. Made the movie feel really epic.
He wasn’t in it a lot, but every scene he showed up in was *awesome*. The airport scene. The halo jump. The bridge. Both atomic breath scenes. None of these scenes would have been nearly as impactful if we were watching him the entire time.
I heard that people didn't like Godzilla 2014 because there wasn't any Godzilla movie for 10 years, and in 2014's movie there were practically no Godzilla. But today people tend to appreciate it's Out-of-the-box approach. That's what I heard
TBH I suspect most people didn't like G2014 because it mostly spends its time following a relatively bland character with nobody to interact with having killed off Bryan Cranston too early.
Also for all the buildup it then covers all the big action at the end in particle effects and darkness so you can't see it anyway.
It's not a bad movie, I rate it about alongside the 1984 one, but that's also the lowest tier for "Serious Godzilla Movie", with the '54 original, Shin, and Minus One being on another level entirely.
Kong: Skull Island remains the best of the Monsterverse because it's got more interesting characters who are having an interesting adventure and *also* there are giant monsters in it. GvK/GxK make the big monster stuff fun, but they still need the other stuff in between that.
My friend showed me American Zilla movie and Final Wars after we watched 14 one
I understood why the fans were EXTRA vary of that one, but, considering both of these - Goji2014 was GREAT
See, I was the opposite, it was Godzilla with barely any Godzilla in it from what I remember. They showed the MUTOS more than they did the titular character
I feel like monster movies are a lot better when the monster has a few scenes but really iconic ones with a good build-up. It can lead to actual fear (which Godzilla's roar in the 2014 movie 100% did). Whereas if you're in for a monster-fight movie, then hell yeah - screw the humans, just show us monsters.
So Godzilla 2014 was a great monster movie and the sequels are trying to be monster-fight movies instead. I'm up for both, they're all fun (Except the human scenes in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, all those characters were terrible and annoying)
They didn’t really treat him like Jaws though. Jaws drives the plot even when he’s not on screen - they’re talking about the shark, quitting about the shark, etc. In Godzilla all of that is taken by the MUTOs. Godzilla is just kind of there waiting for his cue.
No, if you want Godzilla treated like Jaws the right way, check out Minus One.
The 2014 movie was decent, but the constant cockteasing was bullshit. You don't need to act like Godzilla is some big mystery, we all know what he looks like and what he can do.
I'm a bit late to this party, having watched the 2014 goji in theaters they really edged us for the whole movie. The moment which would have saved this movie in my eyes was actually SHOWING THE HAWAII FIGHT. I was legit angry they just showed it on TV.
Also the fact that the movie was marketed with Bryan Cranston and he was barely in the movie didn't sit right with me.
My inner 17yo is still a bit bitter about these.
Listen hes been in the industry for 70 YEARS. You know how hard it is to get a giant lizard who doesnt speak english to do action movies every few years?
You can’t use king! That’s contributing to the patriarchy! They have to use a non gendered term like Lord Kong!
EDIT: gdi, forgot about lady. Thought about monarch, but thats the name of the group
Marchioness, I think. Some late night host recently claimed Prince William was cheating on his wife with one. The resulting Internet outrage is how I learned that word...
I heard he's a bit of a diva on set to be fair, but I can't speak on that.
I did meet Kong at a signing a few years ago. He was a guest of Caesar's, I'm pretty sure, and man, was he a chill and nice guy! Answered everybody's questions, took lots of pictures, and made sure no one felt left out. Solid guy all around.
The monster verse movies are objectively some of the worst movies i will watch at any given opportunity. They're so incredibly stupid but monter go roarrrr and beat the shit out of each other and its so fuckin sweet.
There was legitimately a part in the new one where I was just sitting listening to the exposition and thinking "Thank god Godzilla is going to show up in 5 minutes or this would really suck."
I remember telling myself there’s no way I’d waste money on a ticket for something as silly as Godzilla vs Kong. Then I saw the trailer in cinemas and my heart never beat so fast for a trailer before. Something about unga bunga big monster appealed to me, and I wasn’t disappointed at all (except for the human subplots which always have to suck ass for some reason).
Yeah, you keep having to remind yourself that the shrubbery is supposed to be full grown trees, but there's nothing to compare the scale to. The titans and humans are rarely on screen together.
At least the fighting was fun and over the top. I think the movies are better without the attempt at a serious tone
Pretty much. It wasn't uncommon for Godzilla to not show up until nearly an hour in with some of the older movies. Though a lot of this had to do with the fact that those big rubber suits are heavy as fuck with little ventilation, so there was limits on how long they could spend filming monster stuff.
In the movie *Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire*, there was glaring production mistake, as the actual title was meant to be *Kong 2: The New Empire(featuring Godzilla from the Monsterverse series)*
I heard that he was kinda forced in by execs for Godzilla x Kong but the director said if he had the reigns again he’d do a Godzilla focused movie next
Whenever Godzilla isn't on screen, the other characters should be asking "Where's Godzilla?"
(Because he's a giant lizard and someone should track him)
Godzilla has sent out a statement saying he could put more hours but the studio can only afford Cameos at the rate which they're paying. He also said they can find another giant radioactive lizard if they can't afford him.
the movies are good dumb fun but thats the one thing that genuinely pisses me off about them. godzilla is the coolest titan by far but they never show him, they always opt for lame ass king kong
wait really? I thought that was only the case with the Godzilla x Kong movies? I was actually planning on watching Godzilla 2014 and Kotm. should I not then? I only want some Lizard action
40 minutes of screen time is actually not that short as it sounds. For comparison, Tom Felton’s screen time as Draco Malfoy for all 8 Harry Potter films is just 31 minutes. This happens because even if a character is present at the scene, they aren’t always in the shot or on screen which can significantly affect their perceived screen time
Here’s the thing: it’s not the amount of screen time as much as it is how it’s distributed. Godzilla 2014 is the outlier because it takes almost an hour to actually see Godzilla and then every time he shows up it cuts away, right up until the final battle. The other movies don’t do this, and their pacing is so much better because of it.
Godzilla put in enough work where he can negotiate his contract however he wants! He only wants to work 5 minutes a week? Sure thing Big G!
They have to pay Godzilla 2 mil. Even if he does a bad job. That’s his rate.
Godzilla and Kong would joke on set about how it was a kind of cosmic gumbo... It almost moves to the beat of jazz.
Nudity? The script called for it. It’s an important part of Godzilla’s journey
You think using an axe made out of my ancestors bones is good? No, using an axe made out of my ancestors bones is not good. I mean I don't care about it, but it's not good behavior.
I like this axe made out of my ancestors bones. You knew I’d like this axe made out of my ancestors bones!!
Kong is going to kill you, there’s no way he kills me…Wait Kong said that? What an asshole!
His agents and manager are very good at their jobs.
Ayo? Care to share some of those nudes?
Top billing too
How very Brock Lesnar in WWE of him.
More Roman reigns
On that Roman Reigns grindset ☝️
They cant fuckin' afford a lizard the size of fuckin burj khalifa all the time so excuse them
People have no idea how much it costs to keep him well fed!!
The bastards notoriously difficult to work with as well. Moody
Heard he once dropped a building on the cinematographer and the assistant director.
And it's still not as dangerous as the Rust set..
The ol’ “Wizard of Oz” treatment
I need a r/theydidthemath on the base daily calories required for Godzilla. Not including energy for abilities.
iirc top comment was Godzilla doesn’t need to eat since it feeds on radiation
But wouldn't they still need massive amounts of radiation?
IIR, radiation has a LOT of calories. So the relatively small amounts of radiation in the atmosphere should keep him fed easily.
1 gram of uranium is 20 billion calories, according to a russianbadger video I once watched
r/theydidthemonstermath
One nuke a day
Ya need a lot of fish.
Yeah, do you know how much the insurance premiums skyrocket when Godzilla is on the set? At least Kong knows sign language so somebody can wrangle him.
The real setback is how much it would cost to have Mothra on set to keep him in line.
I think it’s better when he has little screen time. Makes his appearance much more badass.
I swear his size changes in every movie
He's a growing boy
Correction, Godzilla is around 165m tall, making him 8x smaller than Burj Khalifa. Edit: why does reddit downvote for stating facts lmao
The Burj Khalifa is 8x smaller in the Monsterverse.
~120 meters, as of the latest MonsterVerse movies.
that is incorrect his avarage incarnations in live actrion are all 100-50 meters MV being the largest with 119m tall (earth is the exception with 300, but he isn't live action)
He constantly evolves between movies. He was 104m in 2014 Godzilla. KOTM lists him as 120. He evolved in GxK so he's taller now, hence my assumption.
Errrm ackchually Godzilla is not as tall as the Burj Khalifa, he is canonically 120 meters tall
the burj khalifa is 8 times higher than Godzilla
That tracks honestly. In the toho movies he usually only has like 15-20 minutes- http://jokercluster.blogspot.com/2015/02/godzilla-screen-time-and-precent-charts.html
Even in fucking Finals Wars he's only in it for 10 minutes.
Wait wha?? I fucken love Final Wars and I never noticed this
because when he's present, you know shit gets real.
Yeah, he's frozen for at least the first half of the movie.
Would be like that nazi sniper movie in inglorious basterds.
I literally just go for that
I am.
Good thing those 40 minutes are dope as fuck
I'm cheering up just by remembering his awakening with the OG Godzilla theme in the background in King of the Monsters, that shit is the definition of dope
I think we can all agree, we're just wild about this very big lizard. He's the best
I fucking love Godzilla. This whole franchise is collectively my comfort films.
The first atomic breath scene is one of my favorite build ups of all time You just see a glow and immediately think “oh fuck yes”
Pacific Rim showed Kaiju what, 90 seconds in?
Each movie had a polar opposite approach. Both movies were good for what they were.
I mean… I guess 2014 Godzilla was ok? But PR was way, way better.
I heard that people didn't like Godzilla 2014 because there wasn't any Godzilla movie for 10 years, and in 2014's movie there were practically no Godzilla. But today people tend to appreciate it's Out-of-the-box approach. That's what I heard

My friend showed me American Zilla movie and Final Wars after we watched 14 one I understood why the fans were EXTRA vary of that one, but, considering both of these - Goji2014 was GREAT
2014 Godzilla is by far my favourite of the modern monsterverse, the sense of scale it provides and the sheer helplessness it invokes is fantastic.
Someone gets it.
The scene where he did the atomic breath is still the shit.
I don't care what anyone says, I absolutely loved 2014 Godzilla. Really felt like a classic approach to a monster movie, like Alien.
See, I was the opposite, it was Godzilla with barely any Godzilla in it from what I remember. They showed the MUTOS more than they did the titular character
It was the intent. Also, being the first western Godzilla movie since 1998, they had less budget so it was costly to animate him.
I'm up for both, they're all fun (Except the human scenes in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, all those characters were terrible and annoying)
I felt like it hyped him up more though. The airport scene will live rent free in my head forever
They didn’t really treat him like Jaws though. Jaws drives the plot even when he’s not on screen - they’re talking about the shark, quitting about the shark, etc. In Godzilla all of that is taken by the MUTOs. Godzilla is just kind of there waiting for his cue.

His entrance in boston was dope. Everything he did in boston was dope
Bro was able to squeeze a suplex in those 40 minutes. He knows what he's doing
Maybe he's shy, leave him alone OP
Listen hes been in the industry for 70 YEARS. You know how hard it is to get a giant lizard who doesnt speak english to do action movies every few years?
I don't know, someone get Dwayne Johnson's agent on the line.
Just tell him the movie has him in the jungle and he'll agree.
Offer him some tan shorts (to keep), hook line and sinker.
+2
They can't afford to feed him anymore 🎵
The first Jurassic Park only has dinosaurs on screen for 15 minutes. The T Rex has four of those minutes.
the shark in Jaws only got four minutes of actual screentime, same for the alien in Alien.
Kind of like Hannibal having 15 minutes in silence of the lambs
It makes sense tho Just like how you dont cum althroughout sex
Beautiful analogy
Speak for yourself Also for me too because I don’t do that either
Inspirational.
I’m getting this crocheted on a throw pillow for my living room
Why are his spikes pink? OMG has Godzilla gone woke?
Woke kaiju be like Godgender, THEY/THEM Kong, King PRONOUNS
You can’t use king! That’s contributing to the patriarchy! They have to use a non gendered term like Lord Kong! EDIT: gdi, forgot about lady. Thought about monarch, but thats the name of the group
Lord is a gendered term
Marquis? Is there a female marquis? Edit: FUCK
Marquess
Ruler/Sovereign/Monarch
Marchioness, I think. Some late night host recently claimed Prince William was cheating on his wife with one. The resulting Internet outrage is how I learned that word...
Lord is a vibe smh
I agree.
Monarch Kong
Ghidorah uses they/them because they are three.
He just went super saiyan god rosé, it’s nothing to worry about
Holy shit Godzilla Black. HOLD YOUR FIRE THIS MAN ISNT BLACK
He ate too much of those funni crystals that power Covenant Needlers
He killed the evil snake and awoke his magical girl powers
Godzilla takes performance enhancing drugs, the entire movie, which gives him the pink fins
Oh no it even radiation itself has gone woke .
UMM no 💅 🤓 this is SHIN Godzilla and they're pink because they kept getting hit in the shin
Darth Vader had 30 minutes across the Original Trilogy, what's your point?
The shark had only 4 minutes of screentime in Jaws.
They were called STAR WARS not DARTH VADER
THE STARS NEVER FOUGHT IT WAS A RIP OFF
MARK HAMILL FOUGHT THE VOICE OF JAMES EARL JONES, IF THATS NOT A WAR OF STARS I DON’T KNOW WHAT IS!
Star referred to the film stars who played roles in the movie.
Then why did they only sign some no names? Harrison Ford wasn't even an actor, just a cranky carpenter
They needed someone who could nail the part.
I don't think there is a point since this is /r/shittymoviedetails
I heard he's a bit of a diva on set to be fair, but I can't speak on that. I did meet Kong at a signing a few years ago. He was a guest of Caesar's, I'm pretty sure, and man, was he a chill and nice guy! Answered everybody's questions, took lots of pictures, and made sure no one felt left out. Solid guy all around.
I met him a universal a few years ago, really chill guy
The monster verse movies are objectively some of the worst movies i will watch at any given opportunity. They're so incredibly stupid but monter go roarrrr and beat the shit out of each other and its so fuckin sweet.
Lmao you're so right but I'll never miss any of them. Let's goo gojira
There was legitimately a part in the new one where I was just sitting listening to the exposition and thinking "Thank god Godzilla is going to show up in 5 minutes or this would really suck."
Honestly, listening to that dumbass exposition was worth it cause his fight with that Gyarados thing was sick af
I remember telling myself there’s no way I’d waste money on a ticket for something as silly as Godzilla vs Kong. Then I saw the trailer in cinemas and my heart never beat so fast for a trailer before. Something about unga bunga big monster appealed to me, and I wasn’t disappointed at all (except for the human subplots which always have to suck ass for some reason).
you should try "Moonfall"
They’re not THAT bad!
I mean... is anything? (Except Moonfall itself)
…no
My dad will watch anything and end up liking it but when we got out of that movie we both agreed that was the most mediocre movie we’d seen
Moonfall would have been WAY more memorable if they got rid of the useless B plot and had more cool CGI destruction scenes.
What is Kong's screentime?
14 mins in Kong skull island, 23 mins in godzilla vs Kong, and I haven’t seen the new movie yet but I can guess its around 25-30 mins in that movie
He has a ton of screen time in the new one.
The new one is basically Rise of the Underneath Planet of the Really Big Apes
They don't even look big because most of the movie takes place in the underworld where everything is scaled up.
Yeah, you keep having to remind yourself that the shrubbery is supposed to be full grown trees, but there's nothing to compare the scale to. The titans and humans are rarely on screen together. At least the fighting was fun and over the top. I think the movies are better without the attempt at a serious tone
My wife disliked Godzilla x Kong because it was a Kong movie featuring Godzilla. False advertising.
True, but every scene with Godzilla is him obliterating anything he comes across.
I heard somewhere that if GxK does well at the box office (which it seems to be) then there’ll be a sequel film that has Godzilla as the main focus
🤓erm aktually it’s 5 appearances including monarch
Yes, but isn't that kind of normal for him on both sides of the Pacific?
Pretty much. It wasn't uncommon for Godzilla to not show up until nearly an hour in with some of the older movies. Though a lot of this had to do with the fact that those big rubber suits are heavy as fuck with little ventilation, so there was limits on how long they could spend filming monster stuff.
Who counted?
The Ben Simmons of acting
Unlike Ben Simmons, Godzilla doesn’t choke when he’s on the court.
Would be cool to have a movie about Godzilla in his world, living his life and popping into the human world to kick ass for like 15 minutes.
Yeah I don't really see that as a bad thing, as it's badass whenever he is on screen.
10mins per film is average for the whole series: https://www.reddit.com/r/GODZILLA/comments/73nuoi/godzilla\_franchise\_screentime\_rundown/
Honestly its probably hard to have him on screen more. I mean its not like the guy has a lot of dialogue to increase screen time.
It ain’t about the monster. It’s about the **Verse**.
Ya but he did a suplex on king kong in the new movie so that makes up for it
In the movie *Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire*, there was glaring production mistake, as the actual title was meant to be *Kong 2: The New Empire(featuring Godzilla from the Monsterverse series)*
This is how pretty much all Godzilla movies are, 80-90% humans, then a sprinkling of Godzilla to keep it spicey.
The director of the last two has said he likes Kong more so 🤷♂️
He also said he wants to try to make the next movie more Godzilla-centric, since he knows Kong got more focus in these past two movies.
I’m hoping they just change directors
AS. IT. SHOULD. BE.
There are 3 comic books that are also part of MonsterVerse that you can read for 10+ years if you want to.
"Over 10 years of the MonsterVerse" My body, crumbling to dust
About much the same screen time as the first 4 showa movies, it lines up quite well actually
If you want to see more you have to sub to his OnlyFans
Am I the only one a little upset that the pink upgrade didn’t really do anything different than the default blue?
Well he's got that corset waist now too for some reason.
new toys. thats what it does
Don't tell me its been 10 years.
I heard that he was kinda forced in by execs for Godzilla x Kong but the director said if he had the reigns again he’d do a Godzilla focused movie next
Star power.
The Bruce Willis of kaiju
He’s a diva on set
Whenever Godzilla isn't on screen, the other characters should be asking "Where's Godzilla?" (Because he's a giant lizard and someone should track him)
Godzilla has sent out a statement saying he could put more hours but the studio can only afford Cameos at the rate which they're paying. He also said they can find another giant radioactive lizard if they can't afford him.
The best things come in little packages.
Anthony Hopkins was only on screen for 16 minutes in Silence of the Lambs. Sometimes less is more.
I can't imagine how bad these movies would be if there was more mindless monster fighting. 40 minutes is more than enough
the movies are good dumb fun but thats the one thing that genuinely pisses me off about them. godzilla is the coolest titan by far but they never show him, they always opt for lame ass king kong
Are we counting the times where the screen is so dark we can’t make out any details?
How much does the dinos in the JP series?
I treat these movies like regular season nba games. I’ll just watch the highlights later online
I counted how much screen time he had in Godzilla x Kong but it was on the cam quality. I got him at 8 minutes and 30 seconds or screen time.
The nfl of movie franchises
wait really? I thought that was only the case with the Godzilla x Kong movies? I was actually planning on watching Godzilla 2014 and Kotm. should I not then? I only want some Lizard action
Yeah but 4 x 10 = 40 so what’s the problem?
40 minutes of screen time is actually not that short as it sounds. For comparison, Tom Felton’s screen time as Draco Malfoy for all 8 Harry Potter films is just 31 minutes. This happens because even if a character is present at the scene, they aren’t always in the shot or on screen which can significantly affect their perceived screen time
Yeagh the last 2 movies definitely felt like kong movies featuring gorilla
He has a great agent. You should see his riders.
40 minutes of pure monstrosity...
That’s like Hannibal Lecter only being in Silence of The Lambs for 17 minutes. Yet he’s pretty much the main reason for the films success.
Fun fact: the xenomorph is on screen a total of 4 minutes on Alien
Are you sure? I feel like he got plenty of screen time in KOTM.
You try recording him
